Lawmakers of Solomon Islands have elected a China-friendly candidate as the prime minister in a sign of Beijing’s extending reach across the Pacific. Jeremiah Manele, the former foreign minister of the islands, has already pledged to continue the international policy focused on building closer ties with China. Dr Satoru Nagao, Fellow at Hudson Institute in Tokyo, joins Parmeshwar Bawa to discuss how this impacts China's position in the Indo-Pacific.

The majority of people here (Solomon Islands) wants China than what you may think of. It is democracy that the majority rule, and you people needs to respect our democratic choices.
We support China in Solomon Islands and the Pacific. I am from Papua New Guinea, and I would like to see PNG focus and build relationship with China. Australia and the US have done nothing for Solomon Islands and the Pacific.

As a young citizen of this beloved nation I just want to say that we are a democratic country, although there alot of division within us, it is us that make the choice, in name of democracy, the freedom of speech, but with due respect therefore whatever decision our leaders make for the good of our people and the development of this nation I only ask for Respect, it is us who will reap the end of it not you, and not all of the people in my country oppose china relations, due to many reasons. But I salute those countries in the region 🇦🇺🇳🇿who always committed to help and support my country 🙏👋.

The era of Western Nations' lecture to the world and third world countries in particular is rapidly approaching the finishing line. A new world order is now on the horizon...... and the people of the new world Order yearn for real peace, social justice, and equitable distribution of the resources. It appears the new world Order will look to China. And this is what is now happening in the Solomon Islands, Central America, and the African countries. Australia, New Zealand, and Japan are much closer to the Solomon Islands. And one would naturally think that because of their close proximity to the Solomon Islands these countries should lead in investing in the Solomon Islands.
