    I'm an old man and my memory us as bad as my eyesight. The XPro has been a godsend! However, I still use my X1T because of its low profile. I have a custom flash bracket that I built for Canon DSLR cameras with battery pack. The XPro simply doesn't fit. However that is no problem because I most often use a single flash on that bracket controlled by the X1T.
    OTOH: I often shoot with OCF and two cameras. Having two triggers makes life easier for me, since I van control the OCF without switching triggers between the cameras...

    Can't wait for the next video on this. I have had one of these (flashpoint version) on pre-order at adorama for a month now. Like you I absolutely hated the x-1 trigger menu system. So much that I sold it and used my v860 as a commander and bought the XT32 which I love.
    This is like a blown up XT32 with ttl and am looking forward to getting it.
    Thanks for the great video Scott.

    Fantastic video. I'm looking at buying a v860ii for Canon and have just found out about this trigger. I was wondering, can you use the trigger by its self, just to use the focus beam? I shoot a lot of bands and the use of a flash is sometime banned.

    "Hi Scott, you explain the operations of this trigger very clearly and fluently. I am a keen amateur and would like to better my off camera setup. Your video has convinced me to purchase the Godox trigger. However I do have a question for you if you don't mind? At the moment I have a very basic and unreliable trigger system, which is in two parts. One part fits on the camera hotshoe the other part has to be fitted to the speedlight as I am sure will know. With the Godox will I still require a receiver to be attached to the flash/speedlight, if so would you be so good as to list the part? I work with a Canon 7D m2 and the Yongnuo 568 EXii, thank you in anticipation.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching :) If you'd like to use a non-Godox flash like the Yongnuo, you'll need the Godox X1R-C (canon model) receiver to put on the flash. If you get a Godox flash like the TT685 for example, you won't need anything extra at all since the Godox flashes have the receiver built into the body. That's the easiest way to go and I've enjoyed using the Godox flashes as well so if you have the chance to get a Godox flash too, that would be the simplest/best solution :) It probably wouldn't cost a whole lot more than getting the X1R, so to be totally honest, I'd recommend saving up just a bit more and getting the Godox flash together with the Xpro. They might even have a set with the flash and Xpro together for a slightly better price somewhere :)
      Hope that helps!

    Didn't even really think of upgrading my trigger till I saw this. Though the pass through, and low profile of the first gen is still appealing in it's own way.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  7 лет назад

      The pass through ability is definitely useful, though the size isn't bad actually. It does stand out a bit more but just enough to easily see the screen and it's more compact than it looks overall. Luckily they're cheap enough that you could justify having both :)

    My questions are:
    1.
    Does the Xpro trigger other third part speedlites?
    2.
    Do you need to get the receiver or you can trigger with just the speedlite like the godox v850 and v860?
    3.
    What's the range on using the xpro with just the speedlite, meaning how far can you go with your speedlite before theres no connection between the speedlite and flash
    Thank you

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  4 года назад +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. I know there are few rebranded Godox strobes that I'm guessing would work but they're not available in Japan for the most part so I haven't been able to test them myself. Outside of that you would need a Godox receiver to either slide onto the hot shoe of off brand flashes or a sync cable with strobes that have that option.
      For most of the Godox lineup, the receiver is built in. the 850 and 860 I believe do both have it built in as do any from the past 5 years or so at least.
      I tested it quite a while ago and I can't recall the exact distance but it was pretty far. I think I was still able to trigger the flash from well over 50 or 60 meters, possibly further.
      Hope that helps! Sorry if it's a bit non-specific

    Love Godox for what they have done, on that note the main issue(s) are if you're using non Godox strobes you can not control the lights even with the firmware updates. All you have is a trigger it's looking like Yongnuo is the only flash controller that will work with your mix of lights.

    In the manual for the XPro on page for using as Wireless trigger it shows a Nikon SB910 (pg 20) on top of an X1R-C receiver. I assume this means it can just trigger the flash - but can it also use the HSS function on the Nikon flashes?.
    I got the new Godox AD360ii with TTL specifically so I could do HSS shooting outdoors. It would be excellent if I could also mix in my 2- Nikon SB900's using High Speed Sync. It may not - but hard to find any info on this.
    thanks for the excellent vids on the Godox system.

    • @ScottDumas

      Hi Jeff!
      I haven't used it specifically with that flash but when I used the X1R-C with another non-Godox flash, HSS and TTL still worked! I imagine it would work the same with the SB910 but can't confirm that 100%.

      Miguel Angel Venancio Romero - truthfully I haven’t had the opportunity to test it that way yet. All the jobs I’ve used the 360’s for this past year haven’t needed the HSS yet.

  • @laurencegrant2882

    I am a spot confused. I have Nikon cameras and speed lighst but recently bought a Fuji xt2 and found I needed an proper flash so I bought the Godox 685F and X1. If I was to buy say a Godox AD200 would I need to buy another trigger (X1 or XPro) for Nikon and would the 685 F would. Guess not. I thought you only needed your camera trigger and Godox lights would all trigger.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад

      Hi! The AD200 can work with any trigger so you can use the same AD200 with both Fuij and Nikon as far as I know, as long as you have the correct trigger for your system. The same goes for the AD600, but the speedlights (with F or C etc added at the end) are also specific to the brand of camera. BUT you can use them, just not TTL or HSS auto functions. The transmitter will still communicate with the flash and trigger it, but only in manual. If you want the full functions of TTL etc then you'll need to also have a 685-F and 685-N.
      I hope that helps! :) Let me know if you have any further questions!

    • @laurencegrant2882
      @laurencegrant2882 6 лет назад

      Many thanks Scott. My thinking now. If I bought an AD200 it will work fine with my 685F from my X1 all in TTL.
      AD200/AD600 etc are NOT dedicated to cameras but controllers are. Only Godox flash guns will work TTL but they have to be bought for specific cameras. (The studio range is different to flashguns) Fine.
      Shame they dont make this clearer, or maybe they do but its tricky to get your head round.
      The Fuji XT2 is great but it wasn't brought to do professional events and weddings stills. My idea now that I have been 'introduced' to Godox is..... instead of using two cameras with Nikon SB910's on each, would be to use 2 AD200 set up in a (large) room and control them from a transmitter (Xpro) on my Nikon cameras. I gave up using studio strobes/brollys etc because of size/weight/set up/ needing mains power, but now I seen Godox products and their sensible prices I am thinking the AD200 will give me the power that the speed-lights can't. A Small, powerful, easy set up. What do you think of all the above? (2 AD200 is like having 6 speed lights going off at once, instead of just one speed light camera per shot)
      Have a grasped the compatibility issue ? :-)

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад

      That sounds like a good plan... a couple AD200's, ideally bouncing off a ceiling or something could make it really easy to walk around and get great shots wherever. The higher power would either let you work in larger rooms or lower their output to really get nice and long battery life with fast recycle times. It seems like the compatibility things you mentioned are correct as well :)

    • @ScottDumas

      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      Sorry, I don't have that specific video but there shouldn't really be any steps to it from what I remember (I don't have my Canon flashes anymore) ...if the Canon flash is mounted on the X1R, just choose the channel and group shown on the X1R with the XPro, the same as if it were a Godox flash. As long as they're the same, it should work but there are no extra steps from connecting to a Godox flash.

    I would be interested in a vid on the system, and how it all fits together.
    As an amateur, I currently use the Yongnuo 622C trigger system. The XPro looks nicer, seems more user-friendly, not that the Yongnuo 622C Tx'er is bad in any way. I assume this has a better range? Is it even worth the upgrade?
    I have a combination of Yongnuo and canon speedlights. I imagine others like me have other flash brand combo's & none of us are likely to buy new Godox ones. I am interested in the receivers and what they support. Godox has a few receivers .. not sure which ones will work with it. Cheaper the better.
    This Unit looks good, the ergonomics sold me straight away. The whole system picture is not something I see explained on youtube very well.. or at all, dang unusual :)
    I think a video like I described would be well received. .

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад +1

      Hey thanks for watching! :) I'll definitely do what I can to put together a video along those lines if I have a chance! To give a very basic answer to your question, the Xpro is indeed really nice, and the X1R lets you use it with most flashes that I've tried (Yongnuo, Canon..) Some of the other receivers are made to work with older Godox flashes from what I understand, but the X1R-C should work with most flashes on the market.
      As for what they would support, I wouldn't want to say with any confidence without trying it myself, but my Canon 600ex-rt worked fine as did my Yongnuo 686ex-rt, including TTL and HSS as far as I could tell.
      I hope that at least gives you some information but let me know if there's anything more specific you'd like to know and I'll do what I can to help :)

They pull me out when they want to sell their houses or portraits for resumes, or for the oldies who have reached that unfortunate good-bye age .. they hate me at get-togethers then line up the next day for shots :)

    But what about the IR quality? I have found anything other than Canon so far just has crappy IR function. Working in low light is a big part of my work, having an effective IR function at distance is imperative, until I will be able to get an upgraded camera that has better low light focus capabilities.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад

      It will definitely depend on the IR/camera combination, but for me at least the IR works just fine. I can pretty easily focus on small details in almost pitch black rooms by using the IR on the xPro. Using the 5D mark IV though the low light focus ability is already pretty decent so it may be easier than with other bodies, hard to say.

      As for the second curtain sync in wireless mode... I haven't had a situation to actually test it but you are able to turn the second curtain sync on and off by the Xpro trigger so I would hope that it does work. I'll try and check when I have a chance.

      i hope, i can use this XPROc with godox AD600B and 3 pcs of yongnuo EX-600RT together .

      That's pretty sick haha.. unfortunately you can't do that exactly with the Xpro, you would have to work around it by setting lights to different groups then turn them on or off yourself which would take more than a second. Seems like a pretty unique feature, could definitely be useful though!

    Hi i have a question, i have an Xpro got it yesterday from hongkong but i have a problem on how to change the zoom range connecting to my flash. Got the 860ii and tt600 as my flash, i can only change the zoom but i have to do it manually to my flash is this normal? How many times ive been changing my zoom using my xpro still it wont sync to my flash...the only one that syncs is the power but not the zoom.

      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад

      Hey so sorry for the delayed response! I've made a video on this issue if you want to check it out but it's likely related to the zoom setting on your actual flash. It needs to be set into "auto" mode for the Xpro to control it wirelessly. Hope that helps!

    • @jimfeldman4035
      @jimfeldman4035 7 лет назад +1

      If you mean a true coaxial PC cable, no. They only pass the trigger ON pulse. True ETTL cables require multiple pins/wires to pass the correct signals. PC stood for Prontor-Compur who developed the socket/plug to go on their LF shutters.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад +1

      The X1R can plug into your camera and act as a shutter trigger for your camera, triggered by the Xpro. To be completely honest though I'm not 100% sure if it would also then trigger your flash. It's possible you'd need another Xpro, X1T or TT685 etc on top of the X1R (it has a pass through hot shoe) to act as a trigger for the flash, while the X1R would act as a trigger for your shutter, initiated by the Xpro. That's just a guess at the moment, I can test it out tomorrow and see how it works.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад

      So, I was able to get it to work haha. The only way it worked though, was using the Xpro as a trigger for the camera with the X1R plugged into the camera using the cable. Then put the X1T (or I assume another Xpro) *directly* onto the camera's hot shoe (the X1R can mount on top of the X1T, but not the other way around or the signal seems to get messed up). You'll set the flash mode/power with the X1T (or Xpro if you have a second one of those on top of the camera), not with the Xpro you're using to trigger the camera. Sounds really complicated when I type it out haha. Let me know if it doesn't make sense.

      Hi! With the 70D you can use this Xpro on camera to trigger your 850V II no problem. You won't need the receiver since the 840 has one built in. It's very easy to use, basically turn on the "slave" mode on the 840 and as long as your channel is the same with the Xpro, they'll communicate easily.
      Once you get them and try them out let me know if there's anything specific you need help with and I'll be glad to do what I can. But, you should have no problem at all. :)

And tell about groups and chanel of the trigger in an partical way. Since I have no previous experience in any flash . It's bit confusing for buying options . I need to connect 3 flashes. Would you recommended that I will go for godox 840 two times or cheaper options . All the best for your channel 😍😍

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад +1

      I'm glad it helped! I can definitely make a video in the future on the basics of flash use :)
      Just wanted to double check, the flash you're looking at is the V860II?
      It's a great flash, but the TT685 is nearly the same and a bit cheaper.
      The difference is basically the battery- the V860II uses a rechargeable battery that has a longer life (so you can use it for longer before recharging). The V860II will get around 650 full power flashes on one charge and the TT685 will get about 230. If you go less than full power though you'll get a lot more of course.
      Also, the recycle time is a bit faster on the V860II. The TT685 is also pretty fast to recycle too, but it depends on what you need.
      I'm happy with both and use both without noticing a difference most of the time.
      I hope that helps!

      Thanks for the instant reply does TT 685 has the inbuilt reciver . And what kind of modified do I need for this kind of flash the umbrella . Or softbox .or the mine softbox in the flash head itself .or the refetor . It I need all . Just recommend some for traditional wedding . And outdoor portraits . None of my friends have any idea in this . Even the shop keeper . I hope u will help me . Do I need ad200 or others for potrate photos . Does it really makes an valueable difference . Thanks for your support 😅

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  6 лет назад +1

      It's no problem! The TT685 does also have the built in receiver, so you'll be good to go.
      For using modifiers, I recommend this S-type bracket, it can hold an umbrella or any other modifier with a "bowens mount." You just slide the speedlight in and it's very easy to set up. Because of it's shape it also makes it easy for someone to hold it by hand if you need.
      Godox S-Type Bracket: prourls.co/dago
      An umbrella is a good cheap place to start, but a softbox will have more control (the light won't spill out the sides). For weddings you'll probably be best off "bouncing" the flash off walls and ceilings if possible (without any modifiers) to get a really wide even spread of light. For outdoor (and indoor) portraits a softbox is a good modifier to use, a medium size will be a good balance for power and nice soft light.
      The AD200 is great because it's small and works like a speedlight but has a lot more power. This means you can use it outdoors in bright light easier and also can use it in larger softboxes (speedlights like the TT685 might not fill up the large boxes as well because of their design and less power). The AD200 can also be used in the S-Type Bracket or with the mounting bracket it comes included with, which has a hole for an umbrella.
      If you'll be doing outdoor portraits especially of more than one person, the AD200 will be very useful. For only headshots or indoor work, a speedlight like the TT685 or V860II would be okay too. The V860II is great for weddings because it can last a long time on one battery and doesn't need an external battery pack. The TT685's only difference though is a SLIGHTLY longer time to recycle (but at less than 1/4 power it makes zero difference) and you will have to change batteries (AA) more often.
      Which one or ones you go with will probably depend more on budget but they're all good choices. :)

      I haven't tested it with those cameras personally, but I imagine it should work if the settings are all correct. Make sure your shutter speed is the correct shutter speed, if it's too fast all the flashes might not fit in that time and it may cause issues. Otherwise it's tough to say what the problem could be without seeing what's going on :(

    EDITED 2018-02-01: Solution to this problem in this comment thread. :)
    I recently got a XPro-C and V860II-C, and they are really nice! I have had one issue with them though, and I wonder if you perhaps has come across the same issue, or if you know about a fix, or what I'm doing wrong? My issue is with second curtain sync. It works great when I have the V860II-C directly in my camera's hot shoe, but it does not work when I take it off camera and try to use it with the Xpro. I've enabled second curtain sync on the Xpro, but nothing fires when I take a shot. In the flash menu on my camera (Canon 760D), I can't change the sync from first curtain to second curtain (it's grayed out), when the XPro is attached, but it again works when the V860II is attached.
    Is this a general problem? Is it something I'm doing wrong perhaps? Is it simply my camera that's at fault/not compatible? I've read multiple times through the manuals for my camera, the XPro and the V860II, but can't find anything about it. I've googled for the last month about this issue, but cant find anything.
    As a side note, I think you have made a lot of great and informative videos, I just found you today, but I have watched quite a few already and subscribed to your channel! :)

      To be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure... I'd have to test it out but I'm not sure I have the cable (if I do it's likely buried somewhere pretty deep haha). It's definitely far from a solution I'd want to use personally though. If I need a speedlight on camera, I'd just use the speedlight as a master trigger as well since the system is built into most Godox flashes. It's not as pleasant to use as the Xpro, but I'd say its far more pleasant than trying to hold the xpro in your hand or letting it dangle from a cable.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  7 лет назад +1

      It does work perfectly with the 5D mark IV so much as I've tested it so far! :) And about the lock, yes, it's still a plastic screw, but what I meant is the new one is a lot easier to tighten and loosen because of the taller design of the Xpro body. I actually prefer this design especially on non-brand flashes since some hot shoes are looser/tighter than others, and this allows you to tighten it perfectly for each one so there's no wobbling or miscommunication :)

      I was just wondering the same. I have RF-603n transmitters to fire the Yongnuo 560III flash. So, I would have to keep using the flash, I guess it’s better if I buy X1t along with Godox AD600B that I am buying. Not sure how much of a help is this one

      I use the Godox V860 on 1 camera and the other a 580exII with the X1 trigger on a 2nd camera. I shoot primes. Camera 1 with the v860 built in trigger and controls set off two off camera Godox AD200's. Whilst the X1 trigger on the 2nd camera fires them off when I needed another focal length. I probably have the 580exII on optical slave, but I can't remember if I set it when I mounted on the Godox trigger. Either way it works fine.
      The great thing is I use a third strobe - Elinchrom DLite 400W set to optical slave. Granted this isn't always needed, depends on the type of job. But the last event I shot, with the change up of lighting, it helped storytell the evening well enough: www.rajeshtaylor.com/jill-steve-the-french-salon-claridges-hotel-mayfair-london
      I think the X1T is making sure Profoto aren't the only ones with a trigger you can actually read the settings off.

    Can this one auto enable HSS like the X1?

      It does and it doesn't... you have to push the "sync" button on the Xpro to activate it, but once you do that it will automatically use HSS or just flash normally as you go back and forth between shutter speeds, so it's basically the same as auto enabling HSS.
