  • Separating loads in to dead load, live load, seismic load etc. and applying in software like etabs or staadpro is inevitable. You will later combine them as load combinations. Further we use force envelopes and moment envelopes to interpret the results easily. Force envelopes are used very wrongly especially by beginners with out understanding what an envelope is. A correct understanding of these points below is essential.
    Read blog at www.civilera.com/post/can-we-...
    1. Why do we separate loads as different cases or pattern in ETABS?
    2. Why do we later combine them in a load combination?
    3. What is a force or moment envelope?
    4. Why do we need a force envelope?
    5. How do we create the envelope?
    6. How do we use the envelope?
    7. Can we use envelope for design of beams when there is torsion?
    8. Can we use envelope for design of columns?
    9. Can we use envelope for sizing of footings?
    The video attends to all these questions. However please read the blog in www.civilera.com/blog in addition to seeing the video. The blog is covering all the minor points and the video here attends mostly on envelope alone and why we should not be using envelope of forces in certain situations.
    Many civil engineering students and MTech structures students use envelope wrongly in their project works and end up overdesigning the buildings.
    Wrong use of force envelope can result in many technical structural issues
    Wrong results
    Overdesigning columns in most situations
    Under designing structures in rare situations.
    Over sizing foundations if reactions are enveloped when the base of column is fixed.
    This video on envelope creation gives a good idea on how a force envelope needs to be used

    Is it necessary to design the beam with all 26combinations for all type of structures. Even if it is less storey buildings, not prone to earthquake zone??

    • @CIVILERABangalore
      @CIVILERABangalore  Год назад

      Yes. it is needed. There is no place in India that is exempted from seismic considerations as every place is seismically active. However the intensity expected varies and that is why we have different zones. So forces considered varies.

    Sir if we are designing beams without envelope..like columns is it acceptable as per codes and govt norms?

    • @CIVILERABangalore
      @CIVILERABangalore  Год назад

      You have probably not got what i meant. You have to design for all combinations. I meant, envelope should not be taken as it jumbles up the forces
