  • We leave Tomahu and head for Wangi-Wangi which is one of four islands in the Wakatobi group. It’s a two-day passage to get there. The name Wakatobi is a portmanteau of the four main Tukangbesi islands: Wangi-Wangi, Keledupa, tomia and Binongko.
We go ashore, try out the street food and check out the local fresh produce and seafood market. We find Nasi Goring not far from the jetty.
It’s Indonesian Independence Day and we are invited to join in the festivities which include marching and a spectacular marching band!
Nutshell has been having power issues and Magnus spends many hours fault-finding to ascertain what the problem is. It’s a tough one to crack.
Before we leave Wakatobi we enjoy a presentation of local traditional dances.
    Thanks for watching.
    Until next time
    Wendy and Magnus…

Being self reliant means carrying lots of stuff around that you might only use once in a blue moon but when you need it, it's there ! It also means that the cost of repairs is often negligible and you get to do it when you need it done and you don't have to wait for someone to fit you in.
The downsides are that you are carrying loads of stuff around which takes up space and limits access to some items that require maintenance and you have to rely on yourself to either remember to do the maintenance or be prepared to fix the problems when they arise. Being self reliant means the repairs get postponed and when you do finally get around to them they get rushed and even though you intend to do a really good permanent fix they become less than ideal because you think you'll have another opportunity later to put it right which of course creates a failure waiting to happen.
I cannot imagine trying to do jobs like that in the tropical and humid location you are in though so just getting it done is understandable really !

watching those racing boats made me think of the dynamics of speed. Waterline length is what is required rater than HP if both vessels have the same HP the longer will be faster (correct?) so those travelling with their bows raised out of the water and down by the stern could beafaster if they re position crew to hold the bow down (I think?) Another nice episode thanks

Waterline length helps up to maximum hull speed ( pushing through the water) . when the boat starts gliding over the water (planing) it is not, then engine, prop and shape of the hull are important. Grts

When i lived aboard i was advised that boat roll caused zincs in batteries to fail earlier. Five years sounds right. Your "new" batteries probably not that new. cheers
