My impression of most doctors is that they mainly deal in pharmaceutical offerings. That, if a vitamin can help you or be used as prevention, they either don’t know about it or are trained to think a medication is not simply the best tool, but the only tool. Although vitamins can have side effects, too, doctors aren’t aware or don’t care whether the side effects of medications are worse. Although I found I was not B12 deficient, I became horrified to think that, after decades of being on Metformin, none of my doctors thought it would be a good idea to have that checked as, Metformin can prevent absorption of B12, which could lead to nerve problems - one of the very issues with being a diabetic.
I recently became ill with all manner of neurological symptoms (light headed, lethargic, muscle cramps, poor vision, difficulty walking). It was all due to vitamin D and to a lesser extent, vitamin B deficiency. Got injections and started oral supplements and was significantly better in a few days.
