At least one of them is a teacher. The other one can’t be a teacher in a different classroom at the same time. I guess if she really wanted to try to make teaching work, she would have to do it remotely or they both would need to separately do it remotely but even that sounds distracting for the students to hear two people talking at once. Maybe if they tried a smaller private school we are third and fourth grade are combined they could both take turns teaching their class, however many private schools may only pay half as much, so they still be making about the same.
I've seen it in other comments here that they can only teach one class at a time as reasoning for only one salary. If there were two people working together on a project, presenting that project, fielding questions about that topic, and troubleshooting confusion, you wouldn't give them one paycheck just because it was the same presentation. Now add in managing that audience who may or may not want to be there and being evaluated based on how much of that topic they remember later. As someone who has worked as a classroom mentor with a partner teacher, having someone else in the room to contribute and be thinking of things that the other may not be, or keeping an eye out on specific students while the other is instructing is so helpful and worth a second salary. They can work one on one with multiple students at once, contribute to each others lesson planning, and can support each other in one of the most stressful situations, a classroom full of mini adults with little to no emotional regulation! Two minds, two people, two salaries.

Not to sound evil or anything but I think I would rather be dead than have to share a body. Like if I knew somehow that I would be born conjoined and separating me and my twin would most likely kill me I would take that chance. That is a miserable life. If they're considered legally two people (which they should be and obviously are), then they need to be paid twice as much. Only fair.
