That ping you hear and describe when tunning the guitar is very common easy to solve. It is due to excessive friction of the string with the nut, so it slips by jumps. Just grab pencil and add some graphite (draw on the channel of the string where you have the issue). I fixed my Les Paul G string this way.
Dude you're a sweet heart! And you play good! Thanks for making this
I really appreciated that your distorted tones were brighter and lower gain, so you can hear the character of the guitar. That's often where you really hear it the most.
I've this guitar for 8 months now and it rocks but it needed a good set-up and a bit of nut filing because the intonation of open chords were far off. Adjusted the guitar for a low action and a tiny bit of relief in the neck (0,006 inch) and adjusted the pick-up heights. I had a few problems with the tremolo because I like to set it up like a floating bridge like Carl Verheyen and it was making a weird sound when I raised the tremolo arm, a clunky sound appeared.... Adjusting the two pivot screws solved this problem. It now plays on par with a Suhr Classic feelwise. Soundwise the pick-ups of the Suhr are better but I can always change them but overall they do a decent job. I think for the money this is an awesome guitar which plays and sounds way above its pricepoint. It needed some TLC but they all do, also the expensive ones. Thanks for the nice video.
I own The S7 and S7fm. Have no issues with tuning or buzz. Bring it to a tech. Tremolo Bar is great, stays in tune. Love these guitars and you can’t beat the price. More for your money. Love the pickups because I have always swapped out the pickups on my Strats.
Sounds great.
Finally a new review from you man! Got me worried there since no new reviews were coming up for some time, hope all is fine! Keep 'em coming. :)
Btw. are the pots 250k or 500k? Everything else looks pretty damn fine, great alternative to Fender Players, Schecter NJ and Yamaha Pacifica 612vII
Btw if possible check out the Cort G300pro and/or X700 Duality, since they look (spec-wise) like a steal!
+edit
Those issues with a ping/dead note seems like a common issue, couple of german youtubers adressed it and it's due to somewhat bad fret leveling which is not a cheap to fix (and should be done by a luthier)
Hey DC! Thanks man, yes I had to stop because of my wrist otherwise I could possibly have to stop playing guitar🤷🏻♂️ Not sure about the pots but all HSS that I opened had 500k with a couple of resistor to make the pots 250k for the single coils so I’m guessing it’s the same here.
I’m really interested in Cort guitars, they’re probably really good, I like the new G290 II Fat too.
Yep, fret leveling is not cheap, totally agreed, I leveled a few frets on my guitars in the past, of course with the right tools and I found that was really simple to do and it worked wonderfully, there’s a lot of tutorials over RUclips for this sort of simple tasks but you’re definitely right.
Any luck with the tuning stability over time? I’m thinking of ordering one of these but glad I came across your review.
Idk why but the music playing while showing the guitar at the start of the video sounded like something that would play in the background of like a Lowe’s or Home Depot commercial lol. I just pictured people hammering stuff, and picking out wood with that music 🤣
Thanks for the review. I have an S7 but immediately did not like the pickups. My G&L Strat MFD pickups are better than the Sire pups. I swapped out the pickups for a new HSS set and added a Freeway Switch selector mod. My S7 now has x10 series/ parallel tone positions which is great for playing choices/looping. I haven't had any tuning issues with or without the tremelo bar use.
The neck playability is just great.
It looks like there has been some qc issues in the Sire range however . I hope they improve on this for future models. Cheers.
That mfd pickups are ridiculous good!
Hi nice guitar! Did you Mod it, like changing the pickups?
Espetacular como sempre ou como se diz em Inglês... "Spetacule as aleuays" 😄! Nem parece a mesma guitarra que toquei quando ai estive... deve ser dos meus dedos🤣
“Meu, esse teu inglês….”😂😂 Curto bué o som da bicha😁 Obrigado bro!🤘🤘
Very rarely if EVER will you get a guitar that's perfectly setup right out of the box. If you don't know how to setup your own guitar pay someone that does know how. It's worth every penny. A good luthier can make a huge difference in the playability of your guitar! It also saves you future frustration. Good review Andre!
I actually like these pickups, a lot! I thought I'd be changing them out for Seymour Duncan pickups but I enjoy the mid range on these enough to leave them be. And the tuners ARE top notch! Mine was setup by Sweetwater (who I purchased from) by Ben and it arrived in perfect condition, tuned perfectly and all I did was plug in and play. The volume between 8-9 seems to be the sweet spot too ;).
Take accountability of new unstreched strings and trem will take a minute to retune 😊 love Sire better than Fender.
Modern sounds
İ didnt understand the second problem. İs it about frets and intonation? ( Sorry for my English)
is it better than a pacifica on the back?
Check the intunation of the bridge.
Does the humbucker have coil tapping?
Dont know if you are aware of this, but you left the plastic protective covers on the pickups. I have seen people doing this on multiple video's . When the light gets just right it looks like they are still on there.
I have the FM model and not one single problem. I own 3 Fenders each one cost more than the Sire and neither one is up to par with my Sire. No more Fenders for me.
How the pickups sound to the thornbucker
Tuning stability on mine is good.
Lovely guitar! I’m glad for you!
Thanks for watching!🤘
I like the honest review, but the clean tones are just not clean enough to my taste, I will need to check some more reviews.
Very difficult to tell how good/bad a guitar is when using high gain settings...🤔🤔
The neck on mine is crap - wish i had sent it back
Boas , excelente review .
If you muffle the notes, it's normal that they stop, I have one of these guitars, no dead notes, really. Anyhow, on any guitar, you will have some notes that will last a little less, the guitar is not a fair or perfect instrument, it is not a piano.
I purchased the Sherwood Green S7 almost a month and a half ago and the QC was bad. Customer Service at Sire were not very helpful at all. I had my own Luthier repair all the issues from factory. It was rough, but now it plays very well. I upgraded the stock Alpha pots with CTS Pots and added a custom made treble bleed. I also had a custom made white pearl backplate to match the pickguard as the backplates on these guitars are a cheap thin black plastic. I also added a big brass block and it made all the difference in the world. I'm not very impressed with the stock pickups ,so I'm researching what to put in. The nut isn't cut correctly and the high E and B string bind up when bending,so I am also having another bone but made for it. The features you get at that $599 price point are good, but if the nut, the setup/action/fret work aren't correct, then Sire needs to concentrate on those issue before flashing these features at us.
Hi Luis! Well, I bet you got yourself a freaking machine now!😁🤘🤘 It should play like butter now right? I think you swap the right parts to make it play well, actually pretty well.
Would you mind if ask you how much did you spend in total?
Interesting? Mine came with a 3 ply white parchment pickguard and it's as thick as any Fender. I bought the V2 type and pickups for me sound amazingly good.
When you find the perfect guitar, let me know...
Jesus is King!
No Elvis is King
... I find these pickups almost identical on overdrive and on clear - only a tone changes. Must be replaced immediately imho. The body and neck have a potential, but in-house pickups are a nightmare (on all budget guitars except Yamaha)
Lol ok dude.
Just get a Custom Shop Strat and be done of it !
Yeah only about 6x the price and questionable fretwork, no thanks.
Ok throw it in the fireplace. Next...
Intro? More like look at me I can shred part
And why not....!
