I really don't know why veneer was invented! To me, it's cheap looking and ugly! I worked and refinished so many pieces of furniture and lifted veneer off gorgeous wood that it's unbelievable! Great job by the way! 😊❤
Thanks! Some veneers are really cheap but some are shaved pieces of very expensive woods that make it affordable but still beautiful. I don’t understand why there was a trend to cover up beautiful woods but not sure that happens anymore.
Incredible! I had have a nice dresser for month waiting for me to refinish it but I gave up on pilled off the vernier now I guess I can work on it again. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing tip ⭐✨😊
@@furniturerecreated Update: Used this technique to remove veneer from an old dresser I found on the curb. Very nice dresser, solid wood underneath. Note for future people: 1) Keep the putty knife at a shallow angle to prevent marking 2) If possible start peeling the corner with your fingers to reduce denting the corner 3) As mentioned in the video, if it is excessively difficult to remove veneer, let it soak longer
Well..I've never tried it over paint. I think it probably would be best to get rid of the paint first? BUT it is certainly worth a try! Don't be afraid to try, it can't really hurt to try but make sure you don't use a towel you care about and be sure to wear a mask, you never know what's in that paint! Personally I would just sand or strip the paint off first but who knows? Let me know if you try it! 😊
I have an old mobile home. One of the door trim (lamented wood) has peeled. What product can I use to rub on to peel off laminate without ruing wood trim underneath? Thank you
I’m not sure but you might try heat (hairdryer?). I don’t think I’d use a heat gun however especially in a small space. I’m assuming it’s peeling? You could cut off the part that’s hanging and sand carefully the edge but hard to say without actually seeing the trim. I hope you can figure something out. 😊
Ive got one I jus tried this on last week with not much luck. I might give it another try and leave the towel on longer this time. I do know the smell of the melting glue was ruff. Ick. Lol.
Yikes! That’s the thing about furniture, SO MANY different adhesives, woods, alternatives materials. It’s always an new learning experience. I hope it works for you the next time!
There are many reasons for adding veneer. There is a misconception that veneer is cheap wood. In more cases than not in my experience the veneer is a very nice wood. Veneer is used to get a beautiful finish with a minimal cost because it’s shaved in thin slices from the tree instead of cut in heavy pieces.
That's crazy! The moisture from the wet towels and the iron create steam to loosen the glue, maybe you have the best glue even created! Sorry it didn't work for you!
Splinters is the biggest reason I use gloves, but the constant moisture, glue and heat can also be hard on your skin. It certainly doesn’t hurt anything. Thanks for watching.
Dang!! The results were so worth it! This is awesome, thanks for sharing!!

Splendid demo and info well done 👏🏼 👍🏼
Thank you from England 🏴
Thank you so much and thanks for watching from England!❤️
@@furniturerecreated You’re welcome 🏴
Found a curbside piece with peeling veneer. Now i can tackle this project!!!
Oh yay!!! Let me know how it goes! 😃
Brilliant technique. Thanks so much for sharing.
You are so welcome so glad you like it!! ❤️

Oh YAY!! That's the kind of stuff I LOVE to hear!! Go get em!!
Thank you for the sharing of this👍
so glad you liked it! 😀
You might find that using plastic sheeting over your towel in the beginning cuts down the number of trips needed to add moisture to the towel.
Thanks good tip! I think I only had to spray it once but I could be wrong, it's been a few weeks! 😊
Do you think I could use this process and the. Reuse the veneer on other places I would want to repair
I suppose if you can salvage it, go for it!! It’s worth a shot!
Randomly found this video. Thank you
Love hearing that!!! So glad you found me!😉

Great job. How to replace a Vaneer on a table
Thanks!
Can you use do this over paint or does it need to be the bare veneer?

Can I do this even if someone painted over the bubbles veneer
Sure! You may have to strip the paint first but that’s not difficult.
I need to remove the veneer from the sides of my dresser, how would you recommend doing that?
I would do it the same way I would do the top, turn it on it’s side and follow the same directions I show you in this video. ☺️
@@furniturerecreated oh, duhh!!! Lol well that makes sense doesnt it!!! Thank you for the response. Looking forward to trying it out 😃.
I'm going to have to hold the iron up to the kitchen cabinets to get the parts I can't take down. Worth a shot. 👍🙂
Is the same process involved for the drawers?
Yep, the steam loosens the glue that was used to attach the veneer to the material underneath.

Since then..i did it with the wet towel n worked like a charm!!
What's the name of your tool to removing the veneer?
It’s a multi tool scraper you can find in the paint section of a hardware store.

I just leave the wet towel on over night and the veneer will peal off by hand the next day
Thanks for your input!
Thanks for your input!
I thought they put veneer bec the wood under in not good quality isn't it?
That is not necessarily true although the veneer is usually nice wood it doesn’t always mean the wood underneath is bad.
Why would someone veneer over that wood! 😮

The damage wasn’t so bad. Why not repair the veneer, rather than remove?
I must have the best veneer ever! Because this didn’t work for at all

This process barely budged the veneer on my coffee table. Gave up and filled in areas with wood filler!!
I’m having the same issue with my cavalier corporation hope chest. That glue is TOUGH.
Nice job, but still am not understanding why you need the gloves. Never saw any reason for using them whatsoever.

Stop saying, "Hey everyone." It sounds like, "Heeeeeyyyyyyy Everyone." I almost left.
Just say, "Hello and Welcome to Furniture Recreated."
