The rails at the stern of the Kirov-class cruisers were for mines, not depth charges. Every Russian/Soviet surface combatant up to cruiser was equiped for laying mines.
Wolfpack wasn't referencing the rails. He was referencing the sloped ramps center of the rails, which contain depth charges. The Kirov carried 50 depth charges, 20 BB-1s and 30 BM-1s. The Kirov was also equiped with 4 BMB-1 Throwers. The rails could serve a dual function with trolleys being used to relocate depth charges and torpedos in addition to handling her 164(max) mines.
Love the Flower Class, the classic workhorse escort. “A corvette will roll of wet grass”. They look small and were not best suited to the heavy seas of the deep North Atlantic - but they have a punch and five of them in an HK pack are definitely best avoided :D Heartily recommend Nicholas Montserrat’s ‘The Cruel Sea’, it’s fictional but a lot is based on his experience as a corvette officer. Also his “Three Corvettes” for non-fiction, but was written & published in wartime so avoids some bits. “The hero’s are the men, the heroines are the ships and the only enemy is the cruel sea itself”.
Just played a couple patrols in my save and ran across the Illustrious escorting a convoy off the coast of Africa. Only took 2 torps to break her in half (and I sent 4 just in case). Was quite surprised to see her! (April 42 I think?)
I am quite perplexed for why developers desided from all possible cruisers to implement being Kirovs which didn't even take part in Battle of Atlantic.
An excellent attack, and since you not only removed the cruiser but reported the fleet, the Kriegsmarine can follow up by attacking with something like the Tirpitz in a surface action!
First Officer: Captain the men are starving. Captain: If that potato is eaten you will be fired out of the torpedo tubes. First Officer: Yes Captain I will tell the men.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year wolf 2020 was the first year I started watching your videos and I'm both surprised and happy to see a large community that loves uboats as much as I do and I love this game like I love silent hunter but the diving time in uboat is to slow I find it takes the crew to long to move to the valves after the order was given so if you have a officer on maps I find it faster to dive by ordering him to flood the tanks first then the order to dive is given and the ship starts to submerge right as the crew clears the deck
I have never come across an abandoned ship like that before (note the person symbol with the slash through it), not without giving it some significant damage first. Weird!
That cook is dedicated, cooking while crash diving is dedication, I'm not a submariner, but there's no way food didn't spill or go everywhere during it, even if it's a shallow angle, even a slight angle can be annoyance for a cook
Marry Christmas Wolfi! Keep up the good work, stay like you are, looking forward to new Silent Hunter, Uboat and Il-2 gameplay and also to new projects in the new year!
Great catch! I have one question though, Is there a reason you always use the stadimeter for range finding and not simply measure the distance with the ruler on the map? Is it because it's considered gamey? Or does the map shows "inaccurately" until you measure with stadimeter?
In the Kitchen, use more than 3 Items at once and it will give u a good boost in Discipline. Music from the radio helps too. and of course the right light for the situation.
shot two torpedoes at a ship today, one hit...other missed...but managed to hit another ship I didnt have in my view distance yet...game is alot of fun.
Just bought this game and SH3 because of you, really enjoying it so far. Quick question, for Uboat how do you work out what depth to set your torpedos, for the first few patrols I kept on shooting right under ships without realising? Also do you recommend playing vanilla first then getting mods like the tdc mod and stuff that you have or getting straight into mods? Merry Christmas!
The drafts of the ships in the recognition book are not accurate to the drafts in game. That is why I always fire at 1 meter. Hopefully this would get fixed soon. I recommend the TDC mod from the start to be honest. It really adds a lot.
If you switch to electric motors periodically you can extend your fuel range significantly. Just remember to no push too far or you'll still end outside your operational range.
I looked at your mod list but none seem to include what I am looking for. I noticed your ruler shows a much more detailed number, is this a setting in-game I havent picked before? Also I noticed that you can bring up the stopwatch wihtout looking at a target via any sights, is this also a setting I havent played with? Thanks for all the videos!
Enjoy watching and getting tips from your videos. I often find I get a delay to fire torpedoes after the tubes are heated and closed. The water level is up, but it may take a few minutes to get the fire button to light up. Any ideas why this happens?
That tanker at the end that was just sitting there. Was more than likely the one you sank with the cruiser .and the game respawned it without the crew I have it happen a fair bit especially if you move out of the area is I think it's just a bug same thing if you leave a ship damaged but not sunk when you come back it will be full health without crew
Ya it should be fairly easy to kinda repeat it by damageing a ship enough to get the crew to leave the ship sail nice ways away enough to loose contact with the damaged ship and then come back and it should be there full health without a crew
