    While I'm not a FPS gamer this was one of the first things I noticed going from 1080p to 1440p. Distant objects became crystal clear and of course everything up close is much sharper. It's the perfect resolution for balance of quality and performance without needing a super expensive GPU like a 4090 to drive.

    True, playing 1280x768 streched (CSGO and CoD MW3) and the benefit besides subjectively less input lag is that the blurry "thing" we are shooting at is bigger and therefore again subjectively easier to hit consistently.

    • @mttrashcan-bg1ro
      @mttrashcan-bg1ro Год назад +40

      It's only less input lag because it's lighter on the GPU, if you're getting the same fps at 4k vs 768p then there's no difference to your input lag. Frametimes are only determined by your PC and how demanding the graphics settings are

    It obviously also depends on the size of a monitor. 32" QHD is same pixel density as 24" HD. It also depends on how far away you sit from a monitor. If you sit really close you might want to get highest pixel density possible. Probably what shroud explains is exactly this: he sits really close and with QHD targets would be more crisp.
    Also really depends on game. He probably talks about some pubg or apex. This is not so relevant in cs go. Otherwise in cs go all pros would not play low res.

      32" QHD has the same pixel density as a 24" FHD but the screen is literally bigger with the same pixel density, so you will still see better unless you also get farther away from the 32".
      About the csgo pros, playing at lower resolutions has its advantages but imo they mostly play low res because they're used to it, they will just use what they've been using their whole life since 1.6, and the fact that everyone keeps playing low res kinda influences that trend even more, like "everyone is still playing low res, I shouldn't change anything".

For my own opinion, get a 2k but not with crazy big screen (4k can too if your pc is monster tier can hold up at least 144fps above with almost all the time when you are playing) you will see how clear you can saw your enemy. I'm using 1080p 24inch IPS, if I got a pc that can help me maintain 144hz above with 4K, I will definitely go for 4K lolz. Tried 4k 120hz before on Apex, I really like what I'm seeing but unfortunately the input lag is too obvious for playing and my pc fans howling like crazy and it's really annoying so I back to 1080P.

    Correct me if I'm wrong that shroud isn't really in the competitive scene now like he was pro some time ago but now he doesn't play as a professional player right? He still is fucking amazing at video games...
    In this video he talks about how 1440p is much more clearer than 1080p.
    Then there's people in the comment section saying how playing at 1080p is "garbage" or whatever and that 1440p is "superior", yes 1440p is superior visually but for the people who are going to be competitive, they mostly seek visual simplicity and more fps or Hz.
    Then there's cheap gamers who are just getting into like actually having a gaming PC and game on it with good performance so guess what they're gonna get (most likely) a 1080p monitor because it gives a better experience overall cause it's a good starting point for them.
    Anyway I still don't know why some people are talking about pro players and competitively playing video games in the comment section even though the whole clip and point of the video is not that.

      1440p actually gives your more frames in a lot of games now. Current GPUs are being bottlenecked by cpus pretty heavily especially at 1080p. And in most cases the frame times are very close between them. The benefit of 1080p is not what it used to be, and 1440p higher res imo has more advantage than slightly better frame rates for competitive.

I for example have a 2060 super, and at 1440p it gets demolished, if I had a 3080 or 3070ti I might argue that 1440p would give me better performance indeed.

    • @DJHarmonics
      @DJHarmonics Год назад +12

      @@NoDFX_ That's incorrect. Increasing your resolution can reduce or completely remove a cpu bottleneck. If you have a maximum of 200fps at 1080p and your cpu is the bottleneck, raising your resolution to 1440p will reduce the load on the cpu and allows the gpu to take more of the load therefore reducing the cpu bottleneck. The cpu has the same amount of process load at 1080 as it does at 1440p. You can create a bottleneck to the opposite effect by increasing your render resolution to say 4k which I'm sure you aware of. If you go into a game and try to play at 4k your fps will drop because now you are creating a GPU bottleneck instead of a CPU bottleneck.

    • @BasedBebs
      @BasedBebs 24 дня назад

      (Summary at bottom)
      Let me break this down; Refresh-rate (also know as 'Hz') is how many frames per second (FPS) your monitor can display (higher = better). Here are the numbers for the length of milliseconds a frame is displayed for for each refresh-rate:
      60Hz -> 16.67ms
      144Hz -> 6.94ms
      240Hz -> 4.17ms
      360Hz -> 2.78ms
      144Hz is the 'sweet spot' for most competitive shooters since it's a HUGE improvement over 60hz and will let you react to an enemy faster. Anything over 144Hz is pretty pointless to the average gamer, most people will still be able to feel the difference but unless you are VERY good at the game you play, it's not going to help you that much. Majority of people won't even be able to tell the difference between 240Hz and 360Hz since it's reaching the limit of what the human eye can see so unless you're a full-time gamer (Streamer, RUclipsr, E-Sports, etc.) there's no reason to buy a monitor that can do this.
      Next up is resolution.
      1080p is 1920x1080 pixels
      1440p is 2560x1440 pixels (2.25x as many pixels)
      Since 1440p has a lot more pixels than 1080p, your GPU has to work harder to display each frame. This means that if you can get 60 FPS max on 1440p, if you were to switch to a 1080p monitor, you would get 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 50% more FPS (being 120 FPS in this case). If you can get 144 FPS or higher on 1440p, then there is NO REASON TO USE 1080p. 1440p will also make the image much clearer which has it's own advantages since you (theoretically) should be able to see enemies easier (1440p also just makes the game look better). If the game you are playing has DLSS or FSR (AI Upscalers) than 1440p is the obvious choice since you can render the game at 1080p, then the AI upscales it to 1440p so you get 1080p FPS on a 1440p display (meaning it takes the same amount of work as rendering a 1080p image but looks better than 1080p but slightly worst than 1440p).
      In summary:
      If you can get 144 FPS or higher on 1440p resolution, buy a 144Hz, 1440p monitor. If you can't get anywhere near 144 FPS (like 90 FPS or less) on 1440p resolution and you are not willing to upgrade your GPU, or are not planning to upgrade your GPU in 3-5 years, then and only then should you consider getting a 144Hz, 1080p resolution monitor.

    Ofc 1080p on 27+ inch screen gonna look blurry compared to resolution that gives you higher pixel density.

Miles better motion clarity is way more important than having more pixels, 1080p on 24 inch is already pretty fucking clear I don't really have issues ever. Not to mention the reduced input delay because of more fps and higher refresh rates.

      Not anymore. The upcoming 480hz 1440p oled is going to be the real winner. Pretty much instant response times, insane colors, 1440p. No need for DyAc. You can check comparisons between the 480hz 1080p oled and dyac 2 on optimum tech’s video. Considering that, and the fact that dyac can cause eye strain, about 1-2 ms of extra input lag (based on rtings tests for reference), although such a small difference doesn’t matter and won’t be noticed at all, still good to mention. With higher resolution, better colors you will be able to acquire targets faster and therefore have even faster reaction time, most likely. All Ws for that oled
