    Thanks for watching! Is the implementation of Planner in Teams currently too complex? And are these changes enough to make your organization more likely to adopt Planner?

  • @ChristianJungSchmitti
    @ChristianJungSchmitti 11 месяцев назад +9

    My problem with Planner is definitely not that it's too complex. Au contraire. Since its introduction Planner was more a promise than a really useful tool. After 4 or 5 years since launch they haven't bothered to implement a "mentioning" mechanism to make communication between coworkers more streamlined. And no basic formatting of text (including hyperlinks)! Can you believe it?

    • @NeilHartMe
      @NeilHartMe 11 месяцев назад +2

      Couldn't agree more. Mentions are surely one of the most basic and widely established (and expected) cornerstones of modern day team collaboration, not least around projects.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  11 месяцев назад

      I was more referring to the implementation in Teams rather than the Planner app itself.

    Thanks for info on Planner update. Is M fixing: Comments in Planner tasks should be sent to Teams, not as emails?

    It is really funny how everybody is talking about Copilot being for everyone when it is only for big corporation willing to buy at least 300 licenses...

    We have been using Task in Exchange Public Folders for over 20 years for Companywide tasks and Projects. I think that Switching to Planner is yet not possible from our perspective. For what I understood it is still lacking of : Multiple Custom Categories for each items (with possibility of cross-view by category and due date), Recurring Expiry Date and other features that made Task in Exchange Shared Folder a key tolls in our organization.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  11 месяцев назад +3

      I don't know if Planner labels would work for you instead of categories. You can set multiple labels on a task.

  • @MEPsideofBIM
    @MEPsideofBIM 11 месяцев назад +5

    You got something wrong there, i think.
    Users will not get any free new features into planner.
    If you'll want features from Project Online, you'll need a license for Project online. Otherwise it'll be basically old planner.
    You'll have basic planner plan and premium planner plan. Premium requires Project Online license (i think/hope P1 plan). With that you'll get task dependency, gant chart view, milestone and all the good stuff.
    So they are merging apps, more unified, less platforms to jump between to manage projects, but no free additional functionality.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  11 месяцев назад +2

      Possibly you are right. But I haven't seen Microsoft explicitly say this. They do say ' You will be able to enjoy premium experiences* in the new Planner based on your Project plan subscriptions at no additional cost.'
      '*We will share more about pricing and details for Copilot in Planner in the coming months.' So, it's not entirely clear but I think you are right considering the name change for Project for the Web to Planner.

    • @DarrellaaS
      @DarrellaaS 11 месяцев назад

      Hi Russell. We don’t know the pricing for Planner Premium yet (as at Nov 22), but we do know that the Project-type features will be part of the premium subscription. Here is a good reference from the Microsoft 365 channel. m.ruclips.net/video/WACHJS0Slic/видео.html

    • @PKestenholz
      @PKestenholz 11 месяцев назад +2

      Correct, not free. But current users of Project for the web will see Gantt features (and more) showing up in Planner.

    • @Jimmybfit

      Can you plan a project for coworkers who are using planner. Push tasks. Make reports of tasks completed and not completed? Make it impossible to remove tasks for reaseeving end of the project?

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  10 месяцев назад

      @@Jimmybfit You can assign tasks to coworkers. And you can export a list of tasks to Excel and then create a report that way, so yes. But I don't think it's possible to stop users removing tasks or modifying them in ways that might be unhelpful. Having said that, Planner integrates with Power Automate so you could create a flow that alerts you if the status of a task changes or gets deleted.

  • @dclemo8389
    @dclemo8389 10 месяцев назад

    I am wondering if individual Tasks (which I believe will be stored in user mailboxes ongoing) will be integrated and you will see your holistic tasks in 1 place under Planner or if Planner will only be for multiuser/team-based collaboration only?

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  10 месяцев назад +1

      Tasks by Planner and To Do includes individual tasks (i.e. those you create for yourself in your own to-do list). And I believe the new experience will not change that. But I'm not 100% sure.

    Loop is available in too few places. Not in Outlook desktop client, OneNote and other places.
    Do we get recurring tasks or proper support for non-US dates (that doesn't require editing the Planner URL away from en-us?)

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  11 месяцев назад

      You can set a repeat on a task. Not sure exactly what you mean about non-US dates

    Does any body know if you can have a portfolio of projects belonging to one brand?
    As in I am managing several projects under one brand but I deal with several brands. Is there a way where you can group projects under one brand and organize the projects accordingly instead just of a list of projects?
    I dont want to treat each project like its a bucket I want to create a full plan for each project.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  8 месяцев назад

      You can certainly create a full plan for each project. Although I'm not quite sure what you mean exactly by 'portfolio of projects'.

  • @CamberleyDaz
    @CamberleyDaz 10 месяцев назад

    Two things Microsoft really need to implement for Planner...
    1. Custom field, even if it's only one, just to give you some flexibility for organising tasks on an extra level
    2. A custom colour background - the white task cards are sitting on a white background - you can choose one of the jazzy backgrounds, but I just want a flat light grey

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  10 месяцев назад

      I don't like any of the backgrounds provided. They are very distracting IMO. If Planner cards are adaptive cards, then probably it's possible to insert a custom field. But that's not functionality that's surfaced or easy to do today.

    Can anyone please let me know if the new Planner will be able to be integrated with Power BI? For two years now I have used many different methods of connecting Planner to Power BI and every one has been either very expensive or a soup sandwich. Thanks.

    • @ThisWeekinIT
      @ThisWeekinIT  10 месяцев назад

      I don't know. Microsoft Lists has some integration with Power BI I believe. Not sure why Planner is left out.

    @ThisWeekinIT A nice round up of Ignite. I like that you skipped most of the AI stuff. It's interesting tech but not affordable or accessable for most orgs. Looking forward to the public preview of device bound Passkeys.
