To be honest, the chemistry those two actors have in the show, I would watch a stage play the two of them in character writing the Godfather. I imagine there are more stories from when Coppola and Puzo were writing it; they probably could make a stage play out of it
@@eccentric_traveler my wife and i talked about that very idea when we were first watching the series when it was new. we would be willing and happy flies on the wall for however long, however many acts, of these two guys being who they are, creating together.
I love at the end of the scene in the bathroom he let's Al place his hand for the gun naturally and sees where that is, then he goes to the prop guy and tells him to put the gun on the opposite side to make Al freak out for on camera so he can capture that anxiety on celluloid for all time. Friggin beautiful
I love how referring to a film saying “its all about family” would be usually a joke about the Fast and Furious franchise but here its an insightful analysis of the core theme and appeal of the Godfather movie
Fast and the Furious is about family because the characters say the word “family” a lot. Those movies are like colorful rattles that entertain babies. But no offence to anyone who enjoys them, who am I to judge.
Coppola, after the great grand success of "The Godfather" said to his assistant.. do you really want to become a successful director? I will share a few tips. Number one, you must have a complete screenplay in your hand. Some minor changes can be ok. Number two, you must work with such a cast and crew which believes in your talent and you have worked with them before. Number three, you must try and keep your actors happy and contented so that their right performance comes out. The assistant was so happy to hear this great advice from his master and shook hands with him. And then Coppola's voice changed suddenly and face became pale. He said to his assistant, trust me.. I didn't have any of the things with me when I made "The Godfather"!
I've probably seen the godfather like 200 times, seriously lol. This scene was fantastic. The guy that played Coppola was sooo good. And the guy who played young Michael was amazing too.
Considering all the behind the scenes drama that went on this has been in the wings for a very long time. I'm more confused about the tone and why they felt like they had to take liberties when the things that did go down was dramatic enough.
This was a brilliant show the was some changes to the truth for entertainment reasons like micky cohen involved I have found out that he was in jail at the time of the production of the film but that's ok because its not a documentary the casting was really good that bit in the bathroom is epic and clever making sure the gun hard to find it's also interesting seeing how hard it was to get the film made
Correct me if I’m wrong but when Carlo gets beaten up in the scene with Sonny that’s definetely not the actual actor it looks like a stunt double. I always thought this looked obvious or am I wrong
Vert Wermer as the young David Aston-Hughes in season 4 of Streets of Hollywood reminds me of the way the late Douglas Fourtane might play the role of Francis Ford Coupe.
The movie about the movie is not as good as the movie, but it tells you something about how good the movie is that people even want to make a movie about the movie.
I really like the way this movie is very "period" but doesn' over egg the performances and dress styles, they seem like real people. Too many show's are like Madmen with absurdly false ways of behaving as if people from different era's are different from us.
It's almost miraculous how good the series was in that sense. It could have so easily been ridiculous - but it was done with such taste and style and focus, I still find it kind of hard to believe. I watched all 10 episodes again recently and I really think it was overlooked. And the Robert Evans performance was just incredible.
You're sorta off about this. The way people acted years ago is not even recognizable to how we are today. Hell, even in the 90s when I was growing up people were weird. And I remember all the way back then thinking people in the 70s and 80s sounded and acted so weird in films that weren't period pieces and were just normal movies. You can't imagine how different it was the further you go back. Shows like Madmen are much more accurate. Injecting modern behaviors, mannerisms, and styles into settings that are meant to take place at a specific period is lazy and inaccurate. Period.
I disagree with your analysis. Michael change (in the movie) is when Michael volunteer to kill Sollozzo and McCluskey. After being slugged by McCluskey and having the meeting with Sonny, Hagan, Clemenza and Tessio. That is the change, the killing cements his move to the "dark" side. Here is the scene ruclips.net/video/CCylDFbZLOI/видео.html
@@elmermedina1713 actually part of it, but you have to remember, Michael did not want to be in the family's business nor did Don Corleone want Michael in the family business. It is the scene when Sonny wants to kill Sollozzo and didn't care if all the families would go to war with the Corleones. That was when Michael entered the "dark" side, where he felt there was no choice but to kill Sollozzo, and volunteered to kill McCluskey and Sollozzo, as Sollozzo will keep coming back until he kills the Don. Here is the scene - there is where you see Michael change, Coppola was brilliant in showing the metamorphose from civilian to eventually running the family business with intelligence. ruclips.net/video/oeBHiJeshcg/видео.html
Chiaroscuro. He describes its perfectly for the movie at 1:53 and that's oddly enough why that line makes so much sense to me, 'you need an Italian to tell this tale'. The nature of light and dark is intrinsic. The lines in the beginning about the movie being about "family" ultimately does make the movie a nuanced yet somewhat relatable look into the Chiaroscuro of life outside social conventions(crime). American Gangster" did this somewhat well as Denzel is amazing at giving nuanced approaches to the roles he takes as seen in "Training day". As far as gangster movies that are endearing this is is possibly the greatest. I'm not to big on the crime genre but I do love poetry and the study of relationships(Math). So i can see what it is now that was being aimed for in "The Godfather" if this was somewhat how Mr. Coppola thought. I myself am a die hard fan of Apocalypse now. Its one of the couple of movies I paid for. Oddly enough it made it into the ranks of "Good-burger" for me. LMAO. Some times a good movie for me is just pure nostalgia and emotion. Which is why I need to purchase "Wolf of Wallstreet", and "Once upon a time in Hollywood", Gang of New York, and "There will be blood". I'm sure there are others but when you can make me feel like apart of that time or bring me good vibes I'm all in. Even the movie " Party monster" captures that time in New York quite masterfully. So many good movies. So many good directors. So many talented and great actors. Its a decent time to be alive. Decent : )

My favorite movie of all time. This series scatched an itch Ive always had about the making and background of it.
I really like this actor he went from balls of fury to portraying one of the greatest directors of all time

I think that guy played young Pacino
Wow. This casting is spot on!
It's one of the best mini-series ever made. If you're a fan of the film, it's just gold.
This guy was spot on with his Evans. Exceptional work.
Dan Folgers is criminally underrated and underused
I love it this show! Amazing.
I honestly would love to Dan Fogler portray him during his filming of Apocalypse Now.
I was just thinking the same as I watched the clip. Dude!
if they focus on coppola it would be amazing
I feel like Francis would be way more animated, expressive, passionate. We've all seen his interviews.
Absolutely
OMG it's the Balls of Fury guy😮
And Bonasera’s daughter is a metaphor of his own soul. It was beautiful and innocent before falling in love with the American dream boy.
Bonasera's daughter? Did you even watch "The Godfather"?
thank you for not hiring josh gad for that role.
The best series every! The casting is phenomenal! ❤
