maynardsmoreland It's called The family Corleone. Ed Falco wrote it, based on Mario Puzo's script. It is a good book, you'll understand more and more about the Corleones, their enemies and friends. You should check it out.
I have the utmost respect for Mario Puzo's writing skills. I read The Godfather I was amazed. I read The Last Don and was just taken by the vision of this man and when I read Omerta which in my opinion is the best of the Mafia triology of Puzo's i was flat out enthralled. Great writer and everybody should read his work
That's interesting. Omerta, the Sicilian code of silence! I am just reading the first book. I got my hands on by Mario Puzo. It was only £2 . I am reading The Godfather and was curious to hear how Mr. Puzo's voice used to sound. Things were different back then. Communication is a lot better these days.
Yeah they were hard on him. That's what happens when art costs a lot of money to make. The guys who are paying for it want to make a profit, so they always end up interfering. It's frustrating.
The Godfather was one of my favorite books and became one of my favorite movies..I have watched over and over..now watching The Offer and watch the movie again to see the parts the show talked about that week!! Love all 3!!!
Easily in my top ten books of all time. You will not be able to put it down. I just read it for the second time last week and I did it in 3 days. An American masterpiece, very well written.
Last I heard, Francis was having some SLIGHT CONSIDERATIONS about pulling out the script for The Godfather 4...however, to be very frank, I think I saw the book as complete within the first two films. The third one was good, but not that good. I think another film (especially so long after) would do extreme damage to both Coppola's repuation and the series. I don't see how a fourth installment could work. I really don't.
Such a shame because I would love to see that movie! Ed Falco wrote The Family Corleone and captures I think half of what Puzo wished for in the Godfather Part 4. I would love to see the movie- with the right actors castes of course and Coppola directing- but damn Paramount won't do it. We should petition y'all.
Fascinating interviews and insights - Godfather 1 and 2 were brilliant. Godfather 3 was a failure. I would love to see a Godfather 4 based on Mario Puzo's description of it.
No it wasn't Vast majority of imbecile don't like gf3 bc of Kay and Michael. Morons that they are, they don't realize that gf1 and 2 are true and better examples of what they ment to one and other
I just read the opening paragraphs of The Godfather. He sure can write! His sentences just sing and pull you into the story. Makes me want to give it a go
@g6686not The Godfather 4 was originally supposed to go right into early stages of production in early 1999, however there were some set backs. Unfortunately Mario Puzo passed away before any negotiations could be shared. Francis Ford Coppola still retains the FILM RIGHTS...so IF he wanted to adapt a fourth installment, he could easily do so as Hollywood nor any studio in Hollywood doesn't own the rights and can't do it, Hollywood's been trying to get the rights, but FFC is smart, luckily.
fortunately... arts and music industry FLOURISHED in america... that attracted global eyes ears and brains... giving joy to the lonely... pacifying the aggrieved... consoling the restless...
I feel for this series as I do for lord of the rings, though I'm glad the third one was actually good. 3 lacked something, It wasn't right. I feel sad I'll never know the feeling of seeing the godfather in theaters, though maybe if I had I would have been someone who was raised to take great art for granted. Sad world we live in.
Brando had bad rep for being really hard to work with and he had a temper. The studio was afraid he would ruin the movie but Francis convinced the studio and the studio accepted on one condition. That was he won't get paid.
a true mafia writer...on The Last Don though...Cross and Ciel were making out up in the attic...but the book does not have that...so the writer added that in the tv script
damn hollywood! lol! I mean nowdays they come out with all these crappy remakes but here you had mario wanting to write yet another epic that would have made hollywood millions! And yet they didn't do it smh..
@g6686not i agree completely! i'm not saying the 3rd movie was horrible, it was good, but that's it. when i saw the 1st & 2nd one, i LITERALLY stood silent after the credit was over, thinking "wow wtf? wow that was... wow.. wow wow" and then i saw the 3rd one and i didn't get struck. i was more like, "what?!! oh no he didn't!" well so yea anyway, i think it would've been more awesome if they'd gone with mario's version with the background stories of each character :)
@gunner23 Maybe it was because when he was a child, he saw his father killing another man and the godfather believe that every man have his own destiny, and the destiny of sonny is to become a killer
What a shame (but no surprise) that Paramount (and Robert Evans) screwed Mario Puzo over for $50,000...owning all he writes and wrote about the Godfather, who's films went on to make about 1 billion dollars. Sad.
Part 3 sucks yeah but it is inevitable. Without the death of Michael, there's no proper ending. You cant end a movie with just Michael killing his brother, thats pointless.
See how the big brass mess everything up! They pushed Coppola and took his power away on the film, 3 could of been better, and there is no 4 which would of been great with Deniro playing the Godfather during Prohibition.
Your statement is an oxymoron - Brandon in reality would have been +50 years old at the time of the making of Godfather 2 so he could not have been a "young" Vito Corleone, and DeNiro was around 30 - 31 years old at the time.
There are so many angles Francis could've done with the 3rd one, Vincent's life before he turned into a mob, Connie becoming a mob boss.......Michael's story was told and done already! Francis & Mario are very bright ppl, wonder why they ran out of ideas 💡
Females simply do not become mob boss’s in New York…Connie guiding. I heal that’s it… Vince ts life prior ? He was a petty thief and a street thug under Joey ZaZa
The last godfather is horrible. It should have been about Connie's attempt to restore the crime family by attempting to place her son in the position of being the new don. They could have contrasted this with Puzo's desire to show the rise of Vito's family just as FFC contrasted Michael and Vito in GF2.
I can see a Godfather Part IV, set in the 30s at the height of Vito's power. Johnny Depp could really pull off Vito Corleone, and maybe Ryan Gossling could play Sonny Corleone.
JMC RSA Actually, Brando was too tall. The character as described in the book is short. As for his personality, nothing to do with intimidating. On the contrary. An afable man. He's intimidating just because everybody knows what he's capable of, but he doesn't show it. He's no Luca Brassi. In other words, Depp would be perfect.
Marlon Brando and Robert DeNiro were/are of average height, and Al Pacino is short. None of them could be described as tall yet they all played intimidating dons.
No, III is HORRIBLE. Sofia Coppola is a black mark on the film, as is the very poorly conceived dialog. The entrance of Joe Mantegna is the jump-the-shark moment of the trilogy.
Part III was atrocious but a part IV, if done correctly, could capture the violent lifestyle in the 1970’s and 1980’s and lead into the taking down of the mob via RICO laws, which would include the head of the Corleone family.
Why are we so always consumed by criminal films and character? Why, at least today, we don’t like to make and see films based on events which we could have in our life?!
RIP Mario Puzo (October 15, 1920 - July 2, 1999), aged 78
You will be remembered as a legend
Without him the Godfather trilogy would’ve never happened
@@omarhaq9635 True my friend.
Puzo's idea for a Part 4 sounds great, I hope it comes to film someday.
maynardsmoreland It's called The family Corleone. Ed Falco wrote it, based on Mario Puzo's script. It is a good book, you'll understand more and more about the Corleones, their enemies and friends.

But Francis will not be the director.
Puzo died in 1999
I hope not, they would surely fuck it up
I hope not. They will make Vito Corleone a gay, trans, black, Jewish, queer.
For inclusiveness…
I have the utmost respect for Mario Puzo's writing skills. I read The Godfather I was amazed. Paramount were hard on Fancis during the shooting of the Godfather.

Paramount are cunts for not funding "The Irishman". I'd personally have them done in for it.🤬
@@maxmonas7131 FUCK NETFLIX!!!

mario puzo is a great writer
i read the godfather, the sicilian, and now reading "omerta".

The Sicilian
Both Pacino and De Niro owe their careers to Coppola :) George Lucas too for that matter...
marty scorcesse got funding for his film Mean Streets from Copola too.
Mmm de Niro not so much. Watch Mean Streets, it is an incredible movie directed by Martin Scorsese and de Niro stars before he was in GF2.
+Giancarlo Domicolo mean streets is a great film. deniro is at his best when working with scorcesse.
De Niro has already made Mean Streets and was already prepping Taxi Driver before that.

Mario Puzo is just a genius.

i want to get the godfather book so bad
Still wish part 4 would happen
Thank you
What a team!
The Sicilian and The Last Don are both just as good, IMO.
