I don't know why in 20th century Brahmans felt that they are superior because as we kknow that in our ancient texts like Ramayan & Bhagavad Gita... these things were not written...Our Ancient Scriptures gives us the lesson to respect all the people either they are poor or rich... According to our Scriptures all Human beings are equal.
I want to share my personal experience that in now a days also, Brahmans thought that they are superior...but i am not sure about all the Brahmin but in my surroundings i also see the untouchablity by Brahmans.
