Here's a question - why put a gopro **on** the helmet and change the silhouette of the helmet that you're reviewing, just to get some BS b-roll footage? Couldn't you chest mounted it instead of opting for the Tinky Winky look, all the while my whole reason for watching this is to try get the most accurate sense of what it's like in real life?

Spot on review. Purchased the MIPS version late last year because it was on sale and I couldn’t wait any longer to replace my current RF-1200. The Airflite is a bit bulky and noisy and now that the new RF-1400 is out, I can’t wait to get back into a SHOEI.

Well, your honesty has made a very tough decision easier. Unfortunately the neck gasket on my 10yr old Airmada came unglued and I was going to replace it with either an Airframe or bite the pricey bullet for a Shoei RF-1400. The thing I love about the Airmada is that I don't feel like a bobble head in it (and the air movement) so the Airframe having a big shell is a deal breaker. Looks like a tube of glue and ! more season for the Airmada, and some penny pinching for the Shoei.

I agree with everything said. After buying it and using it for a while I regret the purchase.
It’s gotten louder since first getting it. It felt larger after a while, maybe because my neck started hurting after using it. The faceplate doesn’t click securely shut anymore adding to the noise.
Skip this purchase and get something else.

I have the Rubatone with gold face shield . Love the aesthetic of it. Definitely loud, ear plugs are a must. I use a XXXL size. Other helmets are just XL. Definitely has pros and cons.

  • @dropusertable

I have the rubatone color with the peak visor accessory. It is a very versatile and customizable helmet. That, and it looking unique, are the two selling points. I'm happy with mine. Never had an issue with the face shield. It is possibly a better dual sport helmet than a sport bike helmet. Highway speeds i'm sure it'd be loud. Sport bike owners typically have loud exhaust and should wear ear pro regardless of helmet. Anyways, back roads and anything below 55 mph it's not loud at all and the airflow is great even putting around off-road. The fitment is weird, made for people with oval shaped heads not round. So I have to wear a size up. Still fits nice. I do not notice the extra weight of this helmet. Even though it is probably the heaviest I've owned. No idea how people are getting fatigued that much. I'm happy with it. It's just a helmet, something you have to update every so often. I only paid $200 for mine. Definitely worth that.

personal preference.. awesome helmet, yeah wind noise is kinda loud at high speeds nothing some decent ear plugs wont solve, but it looks bad ass

The only helmet that I feel I wasted money on.
If you have one, you can do the napkin test. You can put a napkin keeping the visor open on top and close the visor and then pull the napkin out.
There is no sealing at all. The visor let's air in all the time

I can’t remember the exact model of helmet I’ve got but it’s literally the same company and face shield with flip down sunvisor. Maybe it’s because I came from a very cheap HJC helmet but I find this one to be incredibly comfortable for me and my very oval shaped head. It’s narrow and most of the other helmets in my price range we’re just to round. Plus I like how it looks mine is that custom Street silver with blue iridescent face shield. It doesn’t excellent job of blocking the sun too.

  • @Mistah242

I bought one this spring - it is still lighter than my old Nolan modular. I always wear earplugs so the noise is no big deal. Also, it was the least expensive MIPS helmet I could find at the time, so worth the minimal compromises. The fact that it looks pretty cool and I got 3 face shields included was a bonus.

I have the non mips in rubatone. It definitely isn't quiet but it is still better than my old sedici modular. I will say it took a few weeks of breaking in before it really started to feel comfortable for me. My ears also stick out a bit so I usually have to have a head cover on me to get it on without folding my ears...

Your testing on a cruiser bike, that helmet was clearly designed ergonomically for the position of a sportbike with windscreen/fairing. The spoiler on the back is a dead giveaway.
This review would be the same as testing a set of MX boots on a sportbike instead of a dirt bike.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  2 года назад +1

We've used this helmet on every bike from a Ninja 400 to a Street Triple, from cruisers to e-bikes and everything in between. Ask ICON; the Airflite is one of their best selling helmets for every genre (especially the cruiser crowd). Also - FWIW - we sell a lot of touring helmets with Spoilers built in so I wouldn't rely on that being the dead giveaway for sport-only.

  • @johngoepel5263

Woof I bought this helmet because it was a regular top pick and nothing negative was ever mentioned about it outside of difficulties mounting a headset. Spurg even said it was his daily. It is a bit loud, and a pain to squeeze over my fat head. Also the chin air guard falls off nearly every time I remove the helmet because of my beard, and I forsee it wearing out by the end of the summer.

I have the Inky version, non-MIPS, and the biggest complaint I have for this lid is the noise. My God, on the freeway, the damned thing is trying to deafen me to death....and that's through earplugs. How about a ride test on the Bell Star series?

i'm so happy you guys did this review. I have a very long oval head shape, and i've been rocking a very expensive Arai signet-q for years. Its time to replace it, and this airflite with MIPS is one of the only alternatives that have a long oval shape for me. Frankly after your review i'll bite the bullet and spend the $$ again for an Arai that fits properly. I'd love a MIPS helmet, but i'll hold out until the top end helmet makers make one i guess.

Bought this helmet to try it, it's so freaking tight on my head, kinda heavy, and can't comment on the loudness because I didn't take it out on a ride but it didn't not feel comfortable. Looks so cool though. Ended up returning. I wish they'd improve it

    • @deepbludreams
      @deepbludreams 3 года назад

That's been the long term issue with the Airflite, it's way heavier than it needs to be and it's sort of expensive for what it is, sure it looks cool but other helmets easily outclass it for it's price.

Ive been wearing a Airflite Sacrosanct Red for a while now and have been looking for a new one. Maybe the Peacekeeper Black or some other she'll completely. I wear a medium size and it feels snug. Wearing glasses, depending on the frame is either a total pain to get 'em on or slips right on.
It is however, painful on my ear lobes while taking it off.
Noise - well, I put on a set of memory foam plugs and at those high speeds, it's not an issue. Windy inside but if you pull the shield down into the lock position, can't get much thru aside from the chin vents. There is a bit of a breeze even when fully closed.
Somewhat torn on the MIPS thing though.

Great looking helmet but not an smart one sadly. Heavy AF and with MIPS although improves safety, also increases weight. Riding with the faceshield open is almost impossible because it acts a as sail. And price ranges between 250-300 for a polycarbonate!??? I used to like icon, but not anymore. They keep being heavier and now are more expensive.

the helmet is loud, heavy, and doesn't stay fitted long. the huge visor leaves a lot in your view when you just crack it open at low speeds and on a sport bike if you ride with the visor all the way open it catches air like a sail

TL:DR- Sometimes, things that aren't perfect are fun; everyone's different; some people can't handle the thought of mistakes; someone will ALWAYS complain.🤷
Everyone's got different preferences. Ultimately, motorcycles will never be as comfortable as cars. That's part of what makes them fun. I'm not much for complaining, but if it informs people and saves them some money on the wrong gear or bike (for them,) that'll help motorcycling as a whole. Or you can buy the wrong bike/wrong gear and sell/return it. It's still going to be an experience.🤷

If 5 of the best moto-channels tell you that ICON Airflite * is a shitty helmet then bro, that helmet is shit, no matter what you say... For 350 $ you can get a Scorpion ST1400 and for 50$ you can get the carbon one... its MILES better then airflite/armada. Polycarbonate is a shitty material for a motorcycle shell , serious stop being a smartass .
I understand you " protect" your choices ,but you're wrong... this times you're wrong.
By showing ICON where is the problem they can improve the helmet, no matter if you like it or not ,or if the helmet is good for you or not ...the product can be improved ( See RUROC ATLAS progression and updates).
ICON Airflite Is on the heavy side and the visor is not practical in cold weather ...
Have a nice day and respect others opinion .

@@Coreygunz252 Why did you buy five bad-mediocre helmets? Anyways, the problem is not all that bad with the Airflite, its that it costs what it does, for 50 dollars more you are in the ST1400's range and that's a full carbon fiber helmet that is just flatout designed better. Polycarb at this price is just stupid.
