    As always, great job of a review! You are a person who knows what he's talking about, someone who does the homework to create content with valuable information. I basically agree with everything you said here. For Windlass Steelcraft, most of the time, they could have spent a bit more care in their design to make their swords a whole lot better. Usually, they handle alright, and cuts very well if properly sharpened and because of the stout edge geometry, are very durable too.
    Matt Easton and Royal Armouries working together with Windlass to design a new line of swords (not longer a secret), and the prototype looks amazing, and the swords reportedly have all the correct dimensions including the accurate distal tapering. If they can keep it up, these will be hot commodities in the mid-range sword market.

      Thanks again brother!!! This sword just needs more time and effort in design. So I agree! I cannot wait to get my hands on one of those Matt Easton windlass swords!!!! My hope was that they would finally get the right consultation to improve their design process and oh boy….they got the right guy! Can’t wait! Thanks again man, have a great night

      Glad to hear that they're in the prototyping stage after hearing about a potential collaboration with them over a year ago in Easton's own review of this model. I just hope the shipping isn't expensive.

    Nice to know the history behind the sword blade looks awesome

  • @theeddorian

    Just received mine today. The blade is 4.4 mm thick at the guard and 2.4 mm at the tip. The POB is about 30 mm / 1.25 inches beyond the guard, but that is slightly confusing because it has a protected ricasso or exposed distal tang between the guard and grip that adds 1.75 inches (44.5 mm) to the question of blade length and POB. I make the weight to be three pounds (US). The point of percussion seems to be about 18 inches / 458 mm beyond the guard. The sheath is leather over ?. It grips the blade firmly and doesn't allow a quick draw. There are no obvious imperfections, except that the protected ricasso inside the guard is rectangular in section and the corners need easing. They create a hot spot if you use the ring and your index finger to control the blade. One thing that should be kept in mind is that working swords like town guard swords were probably ordered in numbers, were issue rather than individual weapons, and were never likely to show high art in sword making. They were practical swords for quelling riots, bar fights, and similar civil disorders. The guards on Wallace Collection examples range from heavy rod or wire to protection of similar weight to the Windlass replica.

    Another great review! I've had this sword going on a year and it's become a favorite. I did appleseed the edges to improve the cutting, and rounded the corners on the crossguard to make it more comfortable bare-handed. It's a beast, but it has become much easier to handle over time.

    I always liked these transitional designs, just never knew how I would like the balance

      This one is heavy. Arms Armor has one that is very historically accurate but much more money. If this sword had proper distal taper, which the originals do, it would be great.

    Nice cuts man. Just wanted to hit you up and let you know that I'm the guy who bought the windlass off of you. I already been a subscriber and I can't remember if I added notifications for your videos last night or a week or two ago when I subscribe to your RUclips. But I'll be checking out all your videos and giving you some views. But here in Pennsylvania it's been pretty cold as well. We've had quite a few negative degree days in the past few weeks. Yesterday warmed up to like almost 30 degrees it felt like spring

    honestly one of the best price quality ratio swords you can get.only negativ i have is the weight and the wirehandle is slippy with bare hands but as you said with gloves its a beast, great video review.

    Maybe the longer handle and heavy pommel are there to balance the heavy blade?

    Considering the original target audience I’m betting the hilt was used much more often than the blade. Much better to smack thieves and assorted ruffians than killing them outright.

    Great review! I see a lot of reviewers have commented on this sword flexing too much in the forte of the blade because of insufficient distal taper. Have you noticed any problems in cutting or thrusting into targets because of excessive flex?

      For sure!! I thought about unscrewing it and throwing it at something but…..I want to sell it so I didn’t want to damage the pommel lol

    Honestly from everything ive eeen of this one and the arms and armor version they seem extremely similar and i don't think you're really getting anything extra for paying 1200$ vs the 350$ish this one costs

    • @mattamathics1108
      @mattamathics1108  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching!!! They do look similar. I don’t think windlass got the proportions right on this one which drastically affects its handling. However, without holding and using the Arms and Armor version, I can’t really make any real conclusions. I would love to buy that sword but the price is heavy!
