Is it me or is his voice deeper and more intimidating in this movie than in The Last Jedi? He had a more mysterious, otherwordly, twisted, powerful presence overall.

That's why Snoke feels like a stupid villain. Palpatine didn't really care about Vader but he sure did a good job at deceiving him. Snoke blatantly through Kylo under the buss several times and tempted him. Heck Kylo even charged him earlier in the film. Snoke was a dumb butt and got what was coming to him.

@@magavsdeepstate2095 Palpatine and his creation are literal jokes in the sequels. Rey can kill Palpatine with some MINOR assistance from ALL THE jedi (sarcasm obviously). Palpatine learnt nothing from his past experiences in ROTJ and what Luke told him "your overconfidence is your weakness." I mean, if Jedi can just make other jedi more powerful by being inside of them why didn't other jedi do that in the past? Why did they only figure out now? Or was it for a different reason?

He’s so cool here. Mysterious, but imposing and powerful. I really like how invested he is in Kylo Ren. He seems to actively want to nurture and train him in the Dark Side. That last line is kind of haunting, a shame it was forgotten immediately.
I also love how scared he is of Luke. But we now know that his fear is misplaced because Luke is apparently too old and grumpy to help his friends…man, TLJ screwed us big league.
Imagine if Rey gets to Luke and Luke has discovered some powerful new Force ability from the first Jedi Masters. They then come back and have the best fight in all the films. Could have been so much better than the Monty Python anticlimax we got.
I remember being so damn excited from this movie. I didn't care it copied a lot from ANH, it was a new generation of Star Wars and I thought Kylo Ren was the coolest character I'd seen in a long time. TLJ totally flipped it upside down and then spat in its face. TROS was a pathetic attempt to cover up what was done in TLJ, but it failed and it failed miserably imo.
Except his fear wasn't misplaced? Luke's return to being the legend on Crait is the reason the Resistance survived and inspired the galaxy to destroy the First/Final Order.
The mere discovery of Luke is what led to his death.
Just curious, if - in your version - Luke was still a legendary optimistic badass, then why would he be in solitude, letting trillions die?

@@Business_News It made sense on so many levels. Plagues had Palpatine kills all of his family members as prove of his dark side demeanor. What does Snoke do? He orders Kylo to kill his parents the very same way Plagues instructed Palpatine.
Snoke's body is scarred and burned. In the Legends novel Palpatine electrocuted the drugged Plagueis to his death. Snoke's body looks like a rejuvanted carcass of something that was electrocuted.
And also the theme music of Snoke is almost identical to the opera house scene in ROTS, when Palpatine speaks of, you guessed it, Plagueis.
If Snoke was Plagueis, it would have made Kylo the spiritual successor to Palpatine, instead of Vader; pure evil incarnate that wouldn't be redeemed and would rise above Vader.

I love when he says "General!" when Hux was trying to take responsibility. Basically saying that to find blame is a waste of time, we are moving on. It was great character development. A super powerful villain focused on a goal and not falling into the narrative traps most writers do when trying to create a "Super evil" villain, buy having him be petty and cruel even to his own servants beyond what is needed for the goal.
But he was unnecessarily cruel in TLJ.

Snoke was badass in the force awakens. I was so hyped to see what was or how he came to power. Was royally pissed that he was a clone of Palpatine. In my canon, hes a separate entity.
When you realize that the visual difference between Snoke in TFA and TLJ is probably because they are two separate individuals/bodies. A workable in-universe explanation

I always thought snoke wanted to seem intimidating to his pawns while he was speaking to them from diferent locations. That's why his shape in the holograms was so big and realistic. Specially if we consider the starkiller base was the main base of the first order befor the events of ep 7. Even when he spoke to hux in ep 8, after his failure in d'qar trying to capture the ressistance, the hologram only showed his face and it was huge xd. Snoke really had a superiority complex worthy of a sith.
The plot,rumors,are that Snoke is Vader's father, either physically or metaphorically. Either way, it's strongly likely that it's Plageuis or another ancient sith
That would be my favorite plot, after sidious tried to kill his master but failed Plagieus waited, possibly manipulating things over a long period of time (yes a long time but time is relevant to what you perceive, humans live about 90 years, Yoda a lot more) so Palpatines rule would only ever reach 100 years max, what is Snoke? Something that 100 years seems nothing? Just waiting until his time to rule again.

Ben Sadfleck it seems like JJ tried to respect aspects of Lucas's script and Story of episodes 6-9. But I'm sure Disney pushed to get rid of Lucas's characters, so they could baby up the story and have babies at the last scene before the credits roll
Why were people bitching about the effects of Snoke when the film came out? I saw nothing wrong with them at all
+Alex Ononemc Correct. It's the CGI detachment. Snoke feels hollow because you can easily tell he's animated on a computer. There's nothing in front of the camera interacting with the other actors. It affects the immersion of the viewer on a subconscious level.
By contrast, when I saw Emperor Palpatine on camera with his makeup and costume on, I really believed he was there and it kept me immersed in the film, even in the much-hated prequels, at least I bought that this is indeed the Emperor, there, present with Anakin Skywalker and the other characters.
***** There is so much CGI nowadays anyway. In the prequels, ironically, the CGI renders were more convincing than the real actors, for the most part, lol. Especially the worst actor ever, Hayden Christensen.

Am I the only one that hates how Snoke’s characterizationwas handled in TLJ? I mean, in TFA, he was a stoic, calm villain with a hint of gravitas in his voice, making him feel like a sage in the villain side.
In TLJ, his stoicness is gone, he treated Hux and Kylo like shit, he’s too hammy, and he smiles, making him a generic villain at best.
Totally agree. I'd imagine his attitude would have at least changed through many years, but the fact that the movie takes place RIGHT after TLJ, it doesn't make any sense that he'd switch to a cocky super villain so fast. ESPECIALLY when the Resistance just blew up his planetary weapon...why was he so 'unwise' in TLJ? Didn't add up at all.
The movie changed direction and he was written differently.

How is he not stoic in TLJ? He's also not talking on a hologram in that movie, so i figured he'd be more ruthless, which he was. Also, he smiles coz he was winning... until Kylo killed him.
What I liked about Snoke was how invested he seemed in Kylo's development as a master of the Dark Side. Palpatine couldn't have cared less about Vader once he got his Empire sorted out, but Snoke really seemed like he wanted to teach Kylo and let him grow in the Dark Side, probably to see how powerful and destructive he can become.
none of that makes sense anymore because Snoke and Palpatine are the same character.

One of the details I love about this scene is that Snoke's first line is played over a shot of Starkiller Base. It's just an establishing shot, but the grandness and echo of the voice makes it look as though it is emanating from *the planet itself*. I don't know if Abrams intended that or not, but he gave me a real sense of Snoke's power in one shot.

He was a great and mysterious character with so much potential in TFA destroyed in the Last Jedi.

I think it's wrong that Rey become a Jedi. Yoda said, "the last of the Jedi will you be". It feels like the sequels lack emotion and consequences that the OT and PT had. Pff and you thought the Rebels had plot armor.

Snoke, the knights of ren, Kylo completing his training and Rey training with Luke. All these things were not even done in the last jedi. Instead the movie had porgs, space horses and badly timed or forced jokes. Would have been better if the movie was simply about Rey training with Luke while Kylo completes his training with Snoke and the knights of ren in some cool lair full of star wars lore on a shady planet. All while Rey and Kylo secretly have their mind conversations. Poe and Finn should have went off on an adventure to maybe find allies for the resistance instead of what we had. If we had this I wouldn't have cared if Kylo killed Snoke and Luke died at the end. As long as it was done well.

I recently read an article and Rian Johnson said he wrote the script before The force awakens came out. So he didn't know how fans would react to certain things. It seems to me that there has been very little planning with this trilogy. Disney just want to make money as quick as possible.

The Last Jedi would've been fucking amazing if they just focus their spotlight on the force sensitive characters, they're literally the only good part in the movie. Luke shouldn't have died, Kylo should've evolved into at least Darth Vader level of power if they really decided to kill Snoke, which is a pretty bad idea as well. Would've been awesome if they bring in the rest of the knights of ren, give them a badass fight scene where they wipe the floor with the resistance, more awesome dog fights. But no, they have to give us Casino Royale...
So we just ignore the fact that Palpatine technically trained Kylo Ren...

They fucked it up so bad, they should've kept Snoke until the very end and had a big lightsabre duel him vs Kylo and Rae. So much wasted potential. I was disappointed that we never got to see him with a sabre.
I remember how badass Kylo Ren, Snoke, and starkiller base were. 2016/17 me was so hyped for the last Jedi and I was so mad that it was such a letdown.

I think Snoke is an ancient Sith, 900 years old like Yoda. He does look old as shit. Been in hiding after being betrayed by Palpatine and after the Emperor's death he thought this would be the perfect time to step in. Cause if Yoda couldn't oppose him, how could he.
What's your point? Cause I don't think he cheated death, I'm just saying that he's lived for hundreds of years like Yoda, either because it's his natural lifespan or kept alive by the Force itself. But, unlike some people think, I don't think he's Darth Plagus from the Palpatine's story. I highly doubt they're gonna make many references to the prequels.
I'm just saying that these guys really wanna do right by the original trilogy, I just find it hard to believe they'll reference anything regarding the prequels. I'm not saying they're gonna retcon the prequels, I'm just saying they're not gonna say anything about it. For starters, they say they're not gonna reference midi-clorians, and thank god for that.

Oh god, please don't mention the idea of Hayden Christiansen as Ghost Anakin. One of the dumbest changes they ever did. I mean, Obi-Wan's old, Yoda's old, why is Anakin young?
The reason they gave was that Force ghosts are only possible when the person dies as a Jedi. Having redeemed himself, Anakin returned in his Jedi form, which was what he looked like before he turned to the dark side.
They did it to prevent Sith from coming back as ghosts. Editing ep VI was simply to keep continuity with their rules.
