Hi, fellow artist here (mini painting), have you thought about making a video for artists (and people hunched over their other projects at a desk or tablet) specifically, adressing their typical issues and movement needs? Your dual background would be most suitable for such a video... I have learnt a lot from your hanging and glute videos by the way and I'll add the horse stance to my arsenal as well, thank you!
66yrs old granny here. Love these down to earth ideas. I can do some. Much appreciated as this will help me compensate through such practice, for arthritis problems. I really appreciate your style. Cheers
I was reading about ED and found that TMC (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and masters recommend this horse stance as a way to build inner power within the body. People mistake this for just a leg workout but its an internal stabilizer which really builds up deeply within the core the body, activates the Quads which are the biggest muscle in the body which also triggers massive blood flow throughout the body. Its something which has really triggered and propelled me into this workout. Im going to start doing this everyday the Shaolin way.
Those traditionnal stances are incredibly effective for correcting posture and for longevity. I have been practicing sino-vietnamese martial arts for more than 15 years now (with some lays off I must admit) and we do practice it slightly differently with the feet as parralel as possible while keeping the knees externaly rotated. This allow the pelvis to anteriour round, and, as you mentionned, we keep the shoulder blades retracted with the fists resting close to the rib cage. What many don't seem to understand is that those traditionnal stances are not meant to be used in a combat situation as shown. Their purpose is to reinforce muscle and tendon strenght by exaggerating deliberetry the position, the combat stance being more upright will take advantage of the forcefull training. Thany you for your great work and fantastic drawing skills.
The horse stance has completely doubled my energy. I am no longer sleepy during the day or want to lay down. My back no longer hurts my breathing has been fixed and over my spine might just finally be straight and my root chakra is amplifying all my 7 chakras.
For how long do you hold it? And, in any case, at which point (amount of time you were able to hold it) did you realize you were getting these benefits?
@@Masterwar15 I don't measure energy by my amount of time I hold a stance. Its shown through action and every day moments. I just feel better and breath better it relaxes my stomach and chest for better breathing. Better quality of life that is all.

Just recently added the horse stance into my training after having not done it for over a decade. It's maybe been a consistent 6 months every morning, every night for now 2 mins, started off 30 secs, had to get my body reacclimated. And I've definitely missed some morning or nights. It would be great to create more videos with other Kung-Fu stances and movements like: cat stance, bow-cat stance switch, crane forms etc. There is so much depth in those exercises.

ShapeShifters Den I'm starting to do it as of today. I can't hold it for very long yet but just doing it for a few seconds feels so relieving. I jumped off the top stair wen I was probably 4 to the very bottom my pinky toe on the right foot became displaced. I had a cast and the pain went away. But after all these years I realise through concentrating on self awareness that my toe never really healed and my whole body has been off balance because of it. I realise that it's responsible for my flat feet, not that I was born with flat feet. and imbalances in my whole body basically. this stance really relaxes my hips and groin just like u said in the video. this is really a gem. hope u keep practicing the stance and may God bless u with great health.
Keep up the good work! I had a bum knee that altered my form for years and limited everything I did. After a lot of awareness training I realized my knee wasn't actually injured anymore. It was constantly sore because I had subtly altered the alignment of my joints to compensate for it when it was injured. It was the compensation habit that was causing the problems and not the injury, which had actually healed. I would check your toe and foot for the same thing. Often the compensation will be found in the joints above or below the old injury. So for the toe I would check ankle , knee, and even hip. Hope it all works out, good luck!

This is a really good idea to express these martial and physical concepts through art. The standing training is arduous holding these postures of 5 mins to an hour minimum

Often back problems pop up in boxing due to hip misalignment. This happens a lot in boxing because moving from one stance is often the norm. Because of this I always have my fighters do conditioning from both orthodox and southpaw stances. If your back is still bothering you maybe check out some videos about posterior pelvic tilt and anterior pelvic tilt to see if you suffer from one of these hip alignment issues, both are very common. Thanks for watching, hope the back is feeling better!

Doing this with punches helps take the mind off the burning in the legs. Take it easy when starting and get lower gradually, or your knees will pay the price. Careful with foot placement so if you feel pain on the inside of the knees then adjust your stance into a more comfortable position. In my karate days we used to do this with someone standing on our upper legs, like in a piggy-back while the person doing the stance would do about fifty or a hundred punches. Then switch partner and climb on his back. Fun.

This video is very enlightening and it expanded my knowledge of the horse stance's benefits, well done! What you say is the "Kung Fu horse stance" is actually the southern Shaolin one, I do the northern Shaolin one which is lower and has the back rectangular to the floor, as well as the shins pushed a bit back. I have made a related video, but my posture goes a bit bad after the second min because I couldn't film me next to a mirror. Try it out! P.S. It is also effective for combat if you are facing your opponent from the side because your leg will make it hard for them to reach your upper body and core and you have easy access to their abdomen.
One thing I've observed from watching different arts (mostly Chinese Martial Arts) is that they do a lot of punches to the side from horse stance. As they do this, they shift from horse stance into more of a wedge or front stance to that side. I'm a combat sports guy, so forgive me if I am not familiar with terminology. Sometimes they start in the front stance, and throw an externally rotating punch while snapping BACK to horse stance. From my observations, this seems to be teaching proper hip, leg, and foot rotation into these punches. Just like a boxer will rotate. And yes, I know, good mechanics is good mechanics across the arts. I'm just impressed by these exercises, because I can clearly see how it would teach someone to throw, let's say, a cross with good rotation and then coming back to the stance via rotating the other way and throwing another punch like the opposite hook.
It felt like my core was burning and two of my foot was hardening like a rock. Then I fell down after 22+ seconds, this is the first time that I did an exercise. 😅 I really need to step up my game. No wonder I’ve been feeling mentally tired after studying. It was due to my lack of physique and exercise.
Lol when I did the horse stance correctly while listening to him at 3:37 and hearing him scoff/laughing when talking about what your going to feel, it was like he knew exactly what I was thinking or was watching me some how lmao
Love you vids man. Could you delve into a playlist for beginners coming into the fitness world? I know I should get started on stretching first, to focus on getting my body ready and prepped in order to start my fitness journey without injury, but there are so many different methods paths, I also just don't know where to start or what to go to next, etc. If you could, I would appreciate it
All depends on what excites and interests you of course, and what type of fitness you are seeking. Where you start will be different if your goals are to be more athletic, versus just strong, or versus aesthetics. But I would say a commonality between all of these is the need for some kind of mobility work, attention to muscle balance and at least some basic strength training. I started my son off with a basic calisthenics routine so he could gain control of his body while beginning to gain muscle and strength. Was just bodyweight rows, push ups, plank holds, bodyweight squats and glute bridges to start with. It's enough to begin building a good foundation.
Great video. Much appreciated 🤩😇, One doubt, if we start the step with heel out as 1, won’t the 5th/7th step will also be heel out and toes in. And it seems we need to keep the toes slightly out, right? Please suggests. Thanks

thank you sir Dorian
Awesome advice and great artwork...really a very underrated video.
A great educational and entertaining presentation. Thank you for sharing.
Great video mate, love the artwork and how it goes hand to hand with what you are explaining!
Dude, this is amazing! I love your art and your explanations! Keep it up!

Thank you for that great video!
I do this in the freezer at work every morning.
interesting to know about this stance.
We do this every day in our kungfu class.
Great video man. I love it. I am a chiropractic student and a long time martial artist.
you sound like T.A.R.S from interstellar , nice vid man
How about a weekly movement plan including your experience. I would be highly interested.
Rough gameplan in video form would be it!
Great breakdown
Great video. Much appreciated 🤩😇,
One doubt, if we start the step with heel out as 1, won’t the 5th/7th step will also be heel out and toes in. And it seems we need to keep the toes slightly out, right? Please suggests. Thanks
Yes, you definitely want the toes pointed out. I must have mixed up the art.
