    I got the M3 a few months ago. I used to have a Quantum Q6 Edge and the M3 was a huge upgrade from that. From the faster acceleration to the more stable ride. I love the M3 and prefer it over the quantum.

      Question for you about your m3...I currently have the Quantum Q-6 Edge and when my van lowering is turned off the ramp pitch is steep.....the Quantum suspension flexes enough to work fine...do you feel like the m3 climbs just as well as your old Q6

    I wish the M3 was AVAILABLE at the time I got my chair, but I wasn't going to wait over a year and go through all the hassle and red-tape again so I got the F3 which is a great chair for many reasons over the M3 (bottoming out and going through snow) but I love the compact movement of a mid-wheel drive over front-wheel...

    My son just upgrading to this chair, and the one complaint I have is the location of the back tie-down hooks being placed on the inside of the back wheels rather than on top like the front wheels. It makes it a little challenging to strap him into the van. I feel the back rest shouldn't be so curved and extend a little further to close some of that gap between the back rest and seat cushion. It causes his back to arch and doesn't give much lumbar support.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  7 лет назад +2

      yes - I agree the tie down points are a really strange location - on public transit they usually have GIANT hooks, and its really difficult to get them down into this area - and drivers are always in a hurry

      @@TotallyNormal- yes, it seems to be negative, why they couldn't put the back brackets further out. I suspect that this is for aesthetic reasons and there isn't right. Recently I went for a taxi ride end the driver talked about this issue with permobil tiedowns in general, which was interesting:-).

I have not been able to walk for 4 years I can’t stand up straight. We don’t have a wheelchair vehicle so I would need it to fold up. Since wheelchairs are expensive I want to make a good choice. I posted this on the SCI connections page but thought I'd try here too..
    I've had my M3 for about a month. I just noticed a few nights ago that the main circuit breaker in the rear of the chair was flashing green when the chair was off. This corresponded with the same time I had my EZ lock installed by performance mobility. Do all of the M3s flash when off and it took me a month to notice at night, or is something wrong?

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  4 года назад

      hey! the flashing lights are your Permobil Link module - these chairs are LTE connected now - and especially in a dark room, from the back you can see lights blinking inside there! the connected features aren't REQUIRED at all, and this module can be unhooked if ya don't need it. i believe has a backup battery inside of the module - hence the flashing when the breaker is turned off

    Nice video...I am helping my wheelchair bound sister (in a nursing home) with adding accessories to her Permobil M3. SRight now she needs an O2 tank holder. Permobil sells one for (gasp!) $275 (and looks like something I could rig up with parts from Home Depot, but I digress). How specific are these holders per each chair? Can I use one for say...Permobil M300? or even a universal tank holder, given it adequately supports the tank?

      @TotallyNormal-  2 года назад

      what kinda troubles are the castors having?

  • @busterduster4194
    @busterduster4194 6 лет назад +1

    I just got a new Permobil M3. Finding it a blast outside but very disappointing inside the house. Navigating is difficult, the joystick is oversensitive, I end up jerking side to side, difficult navigating through narrow doors or just trying to position myself somewhere... seems to move like a tank too... Also, the front casters have a mind of their own, they flip and rotate resulting in a somewhat violent wobble throwing the chair to the side. Wondering if this is typical of six wheel chairs? Oh, forgot to mention, 70% of my house is very low carpet.
    The other thing that is challenging is getting out of the chair in a timely manner to urinate. Have setup program to position the chair in a normal driving posture (have wider footpads and have to be above the front casters or they collide) and a second program which brings the chair to its lowest height position and leaning somewhat forward to exit (I have MS but can stand so I urinate in a male urine bottle upright holding onto a grab-bar or high counter top). Using these programs you have to fiddle with the controller to select a program then push the joystick forward while the chair positions itself (at a snails pace) to the programed position. I have had some urgency that did not turn out well because of this horsing around... Don't plan on getting a catheter, don't know how other folks in chairs handle this...
    Writing a letter to the company that sold me the chair (my cost 10%, insurance 90%) hoping to resolve these, possibly changing to normal size footpad might help if they can be set about 1" above the ground (for inside the house) and if they don't colliding with front casters might resolve some problems.
    There are a lot of wonderful features about the chair, I'm trying to resolve some of the problem areas for me... Any feedback will be appreciated.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  6 лет назад +2

      yea - mid wheel chairs are defiantly weird to get used to coming from a front, or rear wheel drive chair..
      usually they have seat positioning buttons just down from the joy stick... did they not install those on yours? its a row of bright green lights / buttons
      and YES carpet of any kind SUCKS!! it makes the chair kinda shudder when ya turn -and can spill your drink or knock stuff out of your lap! - took me a while to get used to them - i still look down sometimes to check the position of my castor wheels before i move. if they're facing the wrong way, you sorta have to make a small "S" type move to flip them around.. and sometimes when they flip around, they'll hit walls, or knock the bar stool right out from under someone near you haha -
      the joystick can be programed to help with sensitivity - and there's a "tremor" setting they can turn on as well that helps with the jerkiness..
      i have different profiles for almost every situation.. including one for when i first wake up in the morning, and its much more difficult to control my hands and arms- also an indoor mode for when im in other peoples houses so i dont wreck up the walls!
      but carpet is your biggest enemy.. itll cause all sorts of driving difficulties, and will wear out some of the castor arm bearings prematurely - also when you try and turn on carpet, the castor wheels dont turn freely, and the chair builds up more power.. then when they finally move, you go flying around!
      new chairs can be very frustrating... I HATED it when i first got one - ya cant turn and move easily
      give yourself some time, and see if your
      provider can make some tuning adjustments. ditch the carpet if you can!!!

    • @busterduster4194
      @busterduster4194 6 лет назад

      Thanks for your reply. Yea, this joystick jerking around and caster flop is insane. Sent email to provider, hoping he can come out tomorrow. I am very active and now I feel there is an anchor with a dagger on my leg, not floating around autonomously at all. I like to barbecue, have a small collection along with a 800 degree pizza oven. Imagine getting jerked into that. ruclips.net/video/bjYOynOPZ3s/видео.html Anyway, I think the sellers of these chairs should be more learned and cognizant of the situation needs, not just sell mindset. Cheers, really enjoy your vids! Hope you got a kick out of AvE, I'm still watching and laughing.

      Do you know if most 5 wheelers front casters are wildly uncontrolled when they flip or if some are less reactive to the flipping/jerking fun? I've got a Premobile Rep coming over to make adjustments for the controller and would like to talk about the front casters in comparison to other chairs... Thanks

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  6 лет назад +1

      the m3 is good chair for 'lack of castor flippiness' its kinda a learning curve.. took me a while to get used to it.. but instead of moving straight back, kinda make a little 'wiggle' or slight s-movement to start the castors turning before ya backup.. i was thinking of making a video about this - trying to figure out the best way to illustrate it. but you kinda have to 'know' what position your castors are in before moving.. and carpet it the worst for this.. some programming will help.. turn DOWN the acceleration, and then adjust the speed accordingly. i made a separate carpet profile on my old M300 for this reason... BUT carpet would take out all my castor swivel bearings about every 3-4 months like clockwork. a high torque, low acceleration profile should help out

      the idea is to maneuver in such a way, that the motion of the castors can be predicted

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  2 года назад

      also, when you're backing up, try and look at a reference point.. like the side of the ramp. if you try and look at your back tires, its much easier to over correct. if not able to look to side, or behind you, try and find another reference point.. like the side of the door etc. and maneuver inside the van (if possible) so that the chair is straight before backing onto the ramp

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  4 года назад

      i've never seen one with separate side mounted leg rests.. i think their 'answer' is the transfer mode that tilts forward and puts the footplates flat on the ground.. but wouldn't think that would be too sturdy for someone actually needing to stand on them... it would be possible with a little bit of fabrication to make their center mounted foot plates rotate up to the sides - but wouldn't leave a whole lot of space to move around... ya should call them and check - but i personally havent seen any...
