Standard tuning key of E
I'm playing a Gibson L3, made in 1925
Lightnin' recorded this song while being filmed by Les Blank; the short movie is called "The Blues According to Lightnin' Hopkins", well worth watching.
Lightnin' was in particular good form (and slightly drunk) and I play it as close as I could get it.
Here's the clip from the movie • Video Видеоклипы
Please open videodescription for info on lesson etc
I ordered the lesson!
Me too
Pop hope your doing Good . in this Mess ... stay healthy .
if Mr Hopkins could see him, he would show his gold greatly!
You won’t find a better cover than this anywhere. Authentic and sensitive. Well done!
hi..I also love it , but it is the COVER not the Lesson... where are his lessons ?..I buy the package but only seem to find the PDF and the actual Video lesson ..do u know?? :(
This is the best Lightin song! Bluesiest of all the Blues. Stovepipe out here channeling his inner Hopkins
Daddy Stove Pipe brings Lightnin' Sam Hopikins to life.... with his own Thunder......Sweet & heartfelt....
I've listened to this about 100 times today and everytime I listen I learn something new.
That’s the blues everybody!
You did the song justice 🎸🙏💯
One of my favourite Lightnin tunes. This is The Blues!
Super!!! Mary!!! Beautiful!!!
Thanks Daddy! One of my favorite Lightin' Hopkins! That's right: the essence of the blues...I'm trying to do the bends...it's really subtle! 🎵🎵🎵
Great! Congrats!
You’ve pretty well nailed all the guitar parts - and got the Lightnin’ groove. Well played indeed.
Hello, thanks for always uploading these videos, you are the person who inspires me the most to play acoustic blues, at this moment I am composing my new blues, you are a great bluesman, every time I see your videos I try to imitate what you play. And I always learn more when I imitate what you do, thanks to you I can say that I have the blues.
That's the spirit!
So nice. 👍
Great job sir
Thanks for sharing
Incredible to see that guitar in such beautiful shape in use on RUclips. It almost makes me wish the video was colour so I could get a better look at it. Sam Chatmon played one like it, his was red and black sunburst. Fantastic cover.
Thanks. I made only two video's in colour with this guitar. ruclips.net/video/NdTXRUMndDQ/видео.html Not the best visual quality though. Sam Chatmon played the Gibson L3's larger brother, a L4 (it has 14 frets to the body, while the L3 has 13).
awsome
It's perfect, I've been looking for someone playing it for a long time. Hello from France.
Wow, that was absolutely awesome rendition of "That Woman Named Mary" by Sam Lightnin' Hopkins. Many thanks for sharing it with us Carl.
Wow. Love it
Thank you for sharing this. Love this song!
So much more than just a guitar player, you are listening to a great musician and methinks he has another rare quality and that is charisma. The only other musician guitarist I would say that about is Julian Bream.
Sounds awesome!
Thank you for sharing. You are a real talent and your love of the blues shines!
Great performance as per usual. Thank you! 😁💙
Awesome!!!! Congrats from Spain!!!
Um grande som! Parabéns pelo canal, irmão!
Brilliant. Love that guitar playing.
I think it's really good how they bring feelings into play! that's one reason why I think the blues is so great, it touches the soul! Today's music that is sold like this is only commercial, I think today's music is death and is becoming more and more primitive!
Excellent... Lightnin would be proud!
Que buen cover. Grande, Hermano.
superbe...carrément envoûtant, merciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii !
Oh yeah cool breeze on a warm sunny day! Thanks 👍👏👏
Great job!! Daddy Lightnin’ 👍
Beautiful sounding guitar! Nice pictures on the wall! Great atmosphere!!!
Awesome 🎸
By watching the original clip from L.Hopkins i came here... to your channel months ago. This is epic for me. U rock!
Beautiful! Thanks sharing DSP. Sam would be proud, I bet.

Mr.StovePipe, I took the liberty of downloading this song on MP3 and it's now in my Lightnin'Hopkins playlist, Wich I play every now and then around 3:00am on my MP3 speaker inside of my bathroom, the walls, floor, and ceiling are tile!!! and the echo sound is fckn amazing! Anyways, thank you for this cover man.🤘🏼💀✌🏼
Daddy is always good for surprises :-).
Daddy You are great... 🤭!...💕 Hopkins too ! 🤣🤣🤣
Toll...echt Klasse
BRILL!
damn, this guy is great!
Nice One !
Thank you so much!!! This video is changing my phrasing game. The only thing that would be better is if I was sitting next to lightnin himself.. I can’t get these blues off my mind
😯 Colour me impressed 😎👍.
Yeah yeah. Big Daddy!
Beautifull Daddy
Respect
Nice!!
I save all of your presentation in 2 compartments--- DSP and "Lessons." Your left, fretting hand is always looking relaxed. I have a heavy fretting hand, and it is a pattern I am trying to work my way away from; a lighter, but more precise fretting technique. I don't know why I developed that bad technique because I have never had to play a guitar with a tough action. Plus, I am a lefty who plays in the conventional manner, so I should be great on the fretboard. I'll get there. You are helping. Thank you.
Can you please make one of your lessons for this? I would be thrilled!!!!
Please, open the videodescription for info on lesson etc
third best ears can hear 🐭
what a great New Zealander!
As a Belgian I live close to Zeeland in the Netherlands, but I couldn't be farther away from New Zealand. I visited both islands (and Steward Island) and jumped the Kawara bridge in 2007, wonderful!
hello from france !
It's really the copy of 1967, sam hopkins on his couch. Could you give us the title cotton one day?
THANK YOU

Sleeping and call you betties. Means saying good nicht.
subscribe? don't mind if I do! 🔥🔥🔥
Can anyone tell me the meaning of the lyrics...
*Have you made you bed hard, baby
Sleep in and call your bed ease*
Have you created a problem for yourself by staying in bed and saying that’s your relaxation.
I think it's more like:
Have you made your life difficult, baby by what youve done? Then sleep on it and let your bed ease your mind.
The genius of Lightin' Hopkins is that he can compress a thought like that into a few words that can mean something slightly different to different people. And, of course, that he is the greatest blues guitarist that ever lived, in my opinion.
@@walterlrandolph Thanks Walter.
