Thank you Star I knew I wasn’t stupid when I told the “manager” that my paper coupons were not coming off yesterday because of what she was doing (requesting my phone number before scanning any of my items) 🙄. Because I haven’t watched this video until now (years later after couponing at CVS) now I get to make sure my deals pan out while using SELF-CHECKOUT!

this came at the PERFECT time because i went to CVS yesterday with paper coupons and had to use self checkout and it was a mess. i missed out on like $30 in coupons because i put in my extracare card first and i got so discouraged i was going to give up on using paper coupons at CVS going forward. thank you so much!!! you are the best
I AM A BELIEVER!!! I stumbled across your channel over the weekend when I was searching for couponing tips for beginners. I watched this video and some of your others and took detailed notes. I went to my local CVS store today following all of your tips and I was amazed. My total before entering my rewards card was $51, after my paper coupons and digital coupons, my total was less than $10.

I was forced to use self checkout at a CVS I usually don’t go to the other day and I was so mad. The women had to come over anyway because I had $4 not come off which I knew was gonna be an issue. Really hope CVS listens to the customers about what they want. I don’t mind using sco if the cashiers will be friendly and helpful when issues arise.
I tried to use the sco. I literally had one coupon, and it threw off the whole transaction and the cashier had to transfer me 🙄. I didn't realize I could wait until after I scan my paper coupons to scan my card, so I'll have to try that. Solid advice!

I use to like sco but with couponing I rather use a cashier … because at sco I always end up having to call for assistance for approvals or issue.. I like how they give the option to push the button to get the cashier … I rarely see the ppl working in the store now in days lol
Lol, yes, I think the real issue is the staffing shortages.
This did occur in both of my CVS stores. I have a bunch cashiers in two of the CVS that’s close to my home. But was told that they are cutting back on cashiers and the cashiers are told to make people use SCO. So I do not think it’s like a fake article. Because both of my cashiers at cvs told me the same thing. I did call corporate, because i felt bad for the older folks who had a hard time with it.

I love CVS , I ship there all the time. At a location in Manhattan no cashiers were available for several years from 2018 and 2019 . In all CVS stores that I shop, which is about 6 of them , all customers are encouraged to use self checkout

Ughhhh the self checkout ate my free item and they couldn’t put it back into my account. I learned my lesson. The cashier said I have to buy something else, my total cannot be $0.00.Thank you very much for this.
When my total is going to be 0 I buy a bag and it works fine

Thank you so much for sharing and explaining all this. My store does have self checkout but it's optional cause the cashiers know that is a Hassel to work with. With or without coupons these self checkout things are drama regardless of using manufactured coupons or not. I'm just hoping my store doesn't make us use it on the long run. Cause farreal I live my cashiers as well. 🤞🤞
Well my CVS IS making all of us use the self check out and it's not right. I know I will not get the usual discounts and money off of what I buy because there are tricks to using things like this and I don't think the customer should have to know this stuff - I don't work there and don't want to either. You also have to bag your crap too - why don't I fill and clean my own teeth too when I go to the dentist? Or fix my car myself. This is not service - it is turning the customer into an unpaid employee.
I have noticed at the CVS that I shop at, that there is hardly a cashier behind the register. Self-Checkout makes me nervous when using paper coupons. Thank you for sharing this video about self checkout! Super helpful and it makes me less nervous about couponing and using self-checkout. Recap:
1.) Scan items,
2.) Hit 'Finish and Pay' button,
3.) Hit 'Coupons' button,
4.) Scan paper manufacturer coupons,
5.) Drop each paper coupon into the slot,
6.) Hit 'Return and Scan More Items' button,
7.) Hit 'ExtraCare Phone Number Lookup' button,
8.) Apply any ExtraBucks Rewards that you want to use,
9.) Scan any paper CRTs or ECBs,
10.) Hit 'Finish and Pay' button, and
11.) Make your payment.
Is your CRT threshold taken off before you can apply digital ECB's bc Ive been having trouble getting it to come off. Thank you!

That's a great info Star.. thank you so much for sharing. I went to CVS and purchase items and I was charged 1 xtra colgate, the cashier was frustrated coz I used coupons along with my digital coupons, was in the store for too long. She didn't want to give me credit back to my card which i used to purchased items, basically, she didn't want my refunds. I just grab the items and left. You explained on how to use the self checkout a lot better than others, the way I understand it. Thank you so much. I'm still learning , or still a newbie to this deals, so "thank you"..

I am definitely going to try this. I don't use self checkout when I have paper coupons because it always messes up. I went to my CVS on Friday and the store associate made me use the self checkout. I said even though I have paper coupons and it will mess up and she said yes. I checked out and used my paper coupons, of course it messes up. She comes to try to help me and it won't work. She voids the transaction and checks me out as normal. She said that is the only way they can check us out. There has to be an issue first. Which is ridiculous that I have to check out twice every time I want to use paper coupons at CVS. She told me the stores are using mandatory self checkout to appeal to younger shoppers. I'm in GA too.

What about printed coupons my printed coupons didn’t work at self checkout I didn’t have time to see if it worked with cashier I put everything back and left but was a helpful video to know still new to coupons so excited 😆 will try again
Thank you so much, Star!! I’m in central VA and we have had the self checkouts for a long time, like over a year. In most of my stores, they still have cashiers at the register, but at the stores near my dad’s house I’ve noticed there usually isn’t a cashier. I always stress so much about using paper coupons at self checkout, but I like to take my time and make sure ALL my coupons come off. So this visual so SO helpful!

I learned how to do self checkout months ago and I will not go back conventional checkout anymore lol I LOVE couponing with self checkout.
This was super helpful. My store moved to a new building and they have self check out which I did use but was having trouble scanning my coupons so my haul got messed up but now I know the order in which to do them!!! Thanks Star

Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been running into issues with self checkout and using MFQ / CRTS and I didn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I was entering my ExtraCare Card number first 😭

I have been couponing for over a year now and ever since i started couponing we have always had self checkout. I live in Brooklyn, NY. The CVS employees always tell you that the register is not open and that you have to use self checkout. I always loved self checkout. Once you know the order to do your transactions at self checkout, it is really the best way to coupon. You don't have employees telling you that you cant use certain coupons or certain crts, even though us couponers know that they are misinformed and that you really can use them. And, you can take your time and make sure everything is working out because you can see the screen and you don't have the cashier waiting on you so there is less pressure. There are a couple of negatives. Any time you have a bogo mfg, you will probably have to go to the register to check out anyway because the bogo mfg will prompt the cashier to input the dollar amount. The biggest issue i am having now is that all 4 of the self checkout machines have a messed up sensor in the paper coupon slot. What that means is that after you scan your coupon, the self checkout machine asks you put the paper coupon in the slot, and you do, but the machine doesn't register that you actually put the coupon in so it takes the coupon off your total. Once that happens, i have to call the CVS employee to come over and use a key to open the self checkout machine so that they can pull my coupon out. Then the machine takes a picture of whoever is in front of the machine because it doesn't like that you messing with the self checkout machine and then it literally shuts down. So the self checkout machine has to restart and be re-opened by the CVS employee. They have not fixed any of the self checkout machines at my store so none of the sensors in the coupon slots work so now the cashiers have to take me at the register when i come. But.....if they fix the problem with the sensors on these machines, i definitely prefer the self checkout option. sorry for the long winded comment.....

I did exactly what you did n cashier was fighting me on putting ph 1st🤦♀️i had to come back home n rewatch this video 🥰which i love❤but was so irritated with cashier😡 so i ended up paying more what i had anticipated on paying😢 also my paper coupon for my head n shoulder didnt come off saying it reached maximum amount n i think it was cause scanning card before item( cashier)🤦♀️n i asked y n cashier said u cant use paper n coupon in one transaction but i knew i could so tonight was epic failure for me! 🤦♀️🤦♀️ ty for video confirming what to do @ self check out🥰 got homework ti work on for next wks haul🙏🙏have a great day Star!

I know you’re so busy so I thank you for your time… I have a quick question if I may: is there a way to use the ECB that you’d be earning on the order you’re placing online or cashing out on at the store as payment? Or do you have to wait and use it on next purchase? I’m confused on that I apologize. Also, is there a way to use the codes on the Sunday paper coupons on an online order at CVs or Walgreens? Like where it asks you if you have any promo codes, could we use the coupon number on the paper coupon there? I looked to see if there was an Artificial Intelligence system that could do it for you but I’ve yet to find one. Thank you gain, I appreciate your time and all the $ you’ve already helped me save. 🍎
Hi star I love your videos! I live in a suburb and every CVS has a self check out but there are still cashiers. The cashiers still help out but they suggest self checkout if the line gets long. I think this is going to be the way the future is looking 😭

Thanks for the video! I use sco on a few of my deals but if I have bogo q's or anything with gift cards or certain free99 deals that need the cashier to push the CRT I don't use it. In some stores I prefer the sco cause the cashier's are not as helpful. So, I think I do 70% sco and 30% cashier's. As long as you know that your CRTs attach to the items you're buying and how much your supposed to pay, like you always should, everything will be fine. I use the cash sco and the budget for CVS to get it done. It's usually cent's and tax. You definitely have explained the meat and potatoes of sco, and everything should go smooth. 👍🏽
My CVS just CLOSED last week. Yes . . . CLOSED!! 🥺 The other nearby CVS' at this time only have 1 self checkout station. I'll keep my eye out. I always have issues when using self checkout. I can see this being tragic when the holidays arrive.

Great informative video - convinced me to subscribe to your channel! About a month ago, my extra bucks started to NOT reduce down, neither at self checkout nor regular register! It just wouldn't accept it until I added something to get my subtotal over the extra buck value. So frustrating because so often my total is a few cents under! I had heard that others were also experiencing this issue - do you think this is now resolved?

I can thank you enough for this video! I have messed up quite a few transactions using the self check outs! 😂 Our store has a testy self check out register that hates me and my paper coupons! I always have to get the CVS associates to help.
My store must have your store registers evil twin. lol Paper coupons always have issues at sco. Cashier told me I should go to cashier bc sco isn’t smart enough to figure it outfit. I’ve had managers tell me I can’t use 2 crts on same items, for example $4 off 5 Hallmark. It’s frustrating trying to do the deals only to find out the stores don’t go by the same rules.😩

I feel like it’s been this way for us here in New York for ever. At least 3 years. The only downside is you can’t use e-gift cards and crt’s will not adjust down. Oh, and as for the Bogo, when you scan it it will beep, but when they scan their card it will give them a message to enter the amount.
This makes sense. Apparently with me entering in my cvs account number is why when I did my paper coupons second it kicked out my paper coupons once total was hit.

For example how to make sure your paper booster stacks with digital booster etc. I don’t know in which order to do it. 😄 I know Walgreens is with a cashier but I’d like to know the order in how you make a successful transaction.

Which coupons did you use ? Which weeks inserts. I some that are expired are we able to use those ?I was told some cvs take expired coupons

All of the stores in my area have self check out. One day I went couponing and the manager was the only one directing us to self checkout. He said they didn’t have anyone else working. He said the company was doing something new. I did self check out on some but he ended up having to help me because I had a bogo coupon.

Hello Star! If I want to use $8 off $40 coupon at the self checkout and I scan the manufacturer paper coupons first, what if the total amount drops below $40 after the paper coupons but before I scan my cvs card, will i still get the $8 off $40 coupon? Thank you
The micro cleaner in the gold bottle that has the 9.00 ecb on it . I finally found it but noticed the instructions on the back, hazard to humans and pets. What is this stuff for. I left it in my garage unsure if I wanted to use in my house or my hands. Do you know ?
Thanks for the clear explanation. I went to 3 CVS yesterday and the coupons didn't glitch for me and I was so frustrated. I didn't really need to items so I just had them void the entire transaction. I just hate doing that to the cashiers too. But I wasn't going to spend more than I needed.

It shouldn’t matter, but I usually do the paper CRTs first
We don't have self check out yet at my CVS. I'm sure it's coming though. I think before long every store will be self checkout.
