As to making patterns, I look for knitwear in shops and thrift stores to measure and create items. Shops are the best, as you can get an idea of measurement in sizes. As to socks, I just follow other videos. Shawls just look at hand knitting techniques to create items, the knitting machines are limited to 200 needles so any shawl has to most likely be in segments to create the size you want.
