Very cool! I started my glass fusing fanaticism with a microwave kiln and I loved it! I even bought a separate microwave for it. I now have a small (table top small) Paragon kiln for the jewelry I make because I have no room for a full sized kiln. This video brought back some fun memories. Thank you for sharing! 😊
I don't have a link, it was just a really cheap one I picked up on sale in a local lumber store. I believe there are many similar on Amazon or even Ebay. Just look for the cheapest rotary tool you can find and it's probably the same thing! :-D
@@ravennorejko4492 Thanks so much for replying to me. I'm awaiting my first microwave kiln, so trying desperately to gather lots of tips! Is it simply a little drill - or something more technical please? Do I drill after the firing?
When casting scraps in a form you fire at 100% power so it's just "done when it's done". LOL! That varies a LOT depending on your kiln and oven. This was a small kiln, 1100W oven, it was maybe 7 or so minutes, give or take. As soon as you see a good glow, you just check every minute and then every 30 seconds as usual.
Hello I loved the video and I was surprised that it can be molded in a cookie mold. I have a small oven that the glass stuck to me when it melted and I don't know how to fix it to remove that glass, could you help me how to fix it, thanks
I can’t explain at length here in comments but repair depends on where the damage is, on the sides or in the base. There are a few videos on RUclips for kiln repair but for more detailed and personalized help with your particular damage, join the FB group called Microwave Kiln Fusing Fanatics
Raven, I want to do a video with projects from my fabric scrap craft book. It would not compete with yours. Would you be willing to tell me what kind of camera you use.
what can you use to secure the thinfire in complex shapes? It keeps moving and not tucking into corners and the paper is only 6" and if I add more it goes into middle of cutter. Can you use a mold release spray instead of the thinfire?
In the video it shows that the glue is spread on the cookie cutter and you push the strips into any curves and angles as you go. You might need to work slower with complex shapes to give the glue a chance to get tacky. You can use more than one strip, just overlap slightly at the ends. Yes, you can use mold release spray.
Hi, Thanks for sharing that video! Can you please tell me how long you microwaved the piece for? I have an 1100 watt and was hoping to do some similar sized items in SS mini molds. Thanks!
It’s a very visual process and each project will time a bit different. Start visually checking when the orange glow in the vent is visible and in 30ish second intervals after until the glass texture is where you want it.
Hi. Can you tell me what wattage your microwave is and what power% you used ? I have done pendants ok, but when I tried this within 1minute I had some bad fumes coming off
The weirdness with your lighting looks like you probably had an overhead ceiling fan on and the shadows of the blades were cutting through your lighting
I love the concept and the results. Did you actually fire the stainless steel in a microwave oven? I didn't think you could put metal in one. Fantastic!!
The steel is inside the kiln and can be fired safely in the MW oven. The interior surface of the MW kiln is actually a metallic mineral coating which is one of the reasons it gets hot enough for glass fusing.
There is only thinfire paper underneath. It was previously fired under another piece so it turned to powder. I let a few layers build up sometimes before cleaning it off.

Thank you! now to look for stainless steel cooky cutters. This is becoming so addictive.
Thanks so much for sharing! I’m excited to try it! Please do more videos using the microwave kiln!
Really neat project- thanks for the instruction and inspiration. 🙏
Nicely done, both the video and the craft😊
Great guide! Thank you for the information
Can you put up a link to that drill? I want to make sure I get the right one! :) Thanks
Really practical and useful tips - thank you! Can you give me the link to buy the drill please? I live in the UK.

❤ using metal cookie cutter safe in the microwave?
It is safe in the kiln. The inside of the kiln is also a metallic compound. That is why it gets so hot.
Why is there powder on the kiln plate.
Love it. Thanks for sharing this how to. Do you remember approximately how long you zapped it? That’s a lot of glass. Really turned out well.

How long did you Fire it ? Sharon
I would have worried about using metal in the kiln, thanks.
I want to just slump glass but my MWK wants to do nothing or full fuse Any suggestions?
Call me crazy but when I look directly at it with the top of the heart facing you I see the image of Mel Blanc from when he played in the Munsters.

My camera doesn’t do a very good job, it’s a ten year old cheap Canon cool pix digital photo camera.
How do your fire it after you fuse it in microwave

What firing schedule did you use?

Thanks a bunch! 👍👍👍🐢
Thank you
Thank you!
What role does this form play?
Thank you here from Brazil
😂 LOL really? It gives it the heart shape.
Very nice thank you

Both the thinfire and any coating on the stainless steel will burn off and create an odor. Be sure you have proper ventilation.
Hi, what glue do you use?
I just dab a bit of white glue or gel "school glue", even glue stick if that is what is on the bench. :-)
Does anyone else see a face right under the joint?
Yes, I see now you do.

Looks like a person’s face in the middle
I saw that too
@7:27 does anybody else see a face, like Charlie Chaplin?
from my view it looks like a mans face inside it when you put it flat nice though thanks
Omg!!! I instantly saw a face too!! That cool!!
Hi could I ask what powder did you put under the fire paper ,,thanks
