    Molds from Creative Paradise: www.creativeparadiseglass.com/
    Creative Paradise PDF on fill weights: spuaf.axcqn.servertrust.com/v/...
    Firing schedule I used:
    400-1100-45
    50-1225-90
    600-1520-30 (This was summer 2021... since then, I've found I can get a nice full fuse at much lower temp and shorter hold, about 1475 for 20 min. Less stress on the molds and the glass)
    9999-900-180 (long anneal soak as they were somewhat thick and I had other unrelated projects in the kiln I was planning around as well)
    100-600-0

    Those 3 pieces at the 15:00 mark is rreeallyy beautiful. Even though everything here is beautiful, I normally am not into that style jewelry.... but I Would wear these. They're just beautiful. The colors are perfect, and to be honest, I would use these 3 pieces another way, and that's to help my high anxiety that I once in a while get. Or to help ease my stress. I would go somewhere and get comfortable and relax. Then I would close my eyes and pick one piece. I then would deeply stare into it. I'd look at all the colors and how one overlaps another and see if i can create pictures out of it. Just be super creative and before you know it your anxiety and or stress is gone. They are that cool and beautiful looking, I could get lost into my thoughts while starting at them.

      Yes, there’s a lot of different types of schedules that people toss out there, but basically it’s firing slow through a certain temp range to allow the air to escape. Not flawless but it does help. This is an excellent read: www.bullseyeglass.com/images/stories/bullseye/PDF/TechNotes/technotes_05.pdf

    I never get consistently good results with zyp. It works when it works, but it likes to lift and incorporate into the glass in melts and full fusion temps, and doesn't do well on subsequent firings. I use primo primer. But I don't use it like everyone else. I mix up a large quart batch of primo primer, at least a day in advance, making sure it is completely dissolved and mixed. It performs better on the second day after mixing, and this is important for my application method... For application to a CLEAN dry mold I use an autobody paint sprayer with a medium-large nozzle. I make a paint booth from a large cardboard box on an outdoor bench, and wearing a n95 mask. I spray even coats on my molds and kiln furniture. I build up several coats, making sure they are even. Then if I have time I will do an initial firing of the molds empty, a really quick cycle. This seems to give me really nice HARD coatings that last 4 or 5 firings. AND it is CHEAP compared to the zyp. Zyp IS the good stuff, but properly applied primo is mobettah. Properly applied is the key, brushing requires a lot of skill, and gives uneven results that show up in your bottom surface finish. My bottoms tend to come out not even needing cold work (unless you are going for the polished bottoms, and in that case the good surface only makes the cold work go faster).
    Zyp does some odd things when it comes loose, and while it is always 100% perfect on a slump, Zyp selectively migrates into the glass in full fusion temperatures. It seems to be a chemistry problem, as some glass doesn't absorb zyp. But the primo gives even predictable performance across a range of glass chemistries. But it would also be because I don't use bullseye glass. I started with bulleye, but I found I get better results with spectrum96 compatible varieties.
    And I love dichro, but I have found dichro decals allow me to put the dichro on any glass I want, so I can freely use dichro without spending tons extra on it, and I can use the same glass with and withoiut dichro to get results you can get no other way. The dichro decal is real dichro, only without the glass. It is made the same way, only instead of glass, they use decal paper. The atoms of metal are hot when they hit the paper, but they are so small they don't transfer enough heat to do any damage. So you get real dichro films you can place on any glass you want. I used some of the exact same molds you show here. And yes, they are too heavy for earrings, but make nice pendants. I made some really nice earrings, but the wife can't use them... I think you can make earrings from the smaller molds, but you have to keep the fill levels low, and then the 6mm problem kicks in.

    Wow, those are beautiful! You also started with some nice pieces you broke up. All fair game! This is inspiring me! May I ask you a question or 2-3 please? lol
    Are there any kinds of fusing molds or shelves that don't need the toxic release agents or fibrous paper to release? Are there any release agents that aren't toxic? Are carved carbon-block molds suitable for fusing? Have you ever come across anything other than bisque for fusing molds? Thank you so much! btw, your dichroic box is like a treasure chest! I hope to get some soon! Thanks again!

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  2 года назад

      Wow -- lots of questions, many that probably go far over my head. In terms of release agents, best to look into the different manufacturers, asking for their material safety data sheets and you can decide for yourself what you think is considered toxic or not? Many are also using a product called SilkeMat to make their own molds, and I know it's advertised as non-toxic. The woman who makes SilkeMat, Barbara, is a really great person and I'm sure would answer your questions if you reach out to her.
