OOOPS!!! When it comes down to it, there is only a 1/4 inch between the two and to me that is practically an indiscernible difference. But the honesty is refreshing. I can't tell that there is a big difference between striped and unstriped. Your right It may be that certain types of grass will show the striping more than others. I don't stripe my lawn but I'm not picky about how it looks as long as it's cut even.

When it comes to air flow, 1/4 inch is HUGE. Striping depends on the cut direction. If you're traveling in one direction, ie cutting in a circle or square, you won't creating stripes. Regardless, if you want to cut your grass cleanly, the more airflow, the better.

North central Florida St Augustine surrounded by Bahia yards. You are correct neighbors and even lawn care company’s cut the Bahia short and in the summer heat with no rain the yards quickly fade.
In the 3yrs of my St Augustine started off at 3 inches then 3.5 now at 4.5.
Until I went to 4.5 lawn in constant sun would heat stress. At 4.5 haven’t seen much stress at all.
Might be wrong but I rarely cut the same way.
    I rotate straight crosscut diagonals.
No stripe kit and yard at times look like a checkered board.
    Keep up the good work

Thanks for watching. I'm glad someone out there other than me gets it. Nate said it best, I think. Longer grass blades shade/cools its own roots. We do rotate our cut direction every couple of cuts. In this heat, it took a while for it to grow to where you couldn't see the stripes from the last cut.

Would you rather stand in the sun or in shade..

@edwardrmayojr872 EXACTLY! Most around these parts cut their lawns short(.5-1 inch) because they don't want to have to cut it so often. They don't understand that by doing so, they're creating a problem they could avoid simply by cutting their lawn higher, even if it meant cutting more often. Cut short, then WATER WATER WATER. It really is a vicious cycle. I spoke truth in this video when I stated I HAVE NOT watered this lawn AT ALL, yet it's thick, lush and green with no stressing. Cut higher/linger. The results speak for themselves.

I can't really tell a difference in the two but my eye isn't really trained for that, I just mow. I'm back off the road and nobody sees it but me. When did striping become a thing? Nate go get the chainsaw and cut that tree down and up for your Daddy, he deserves a break. Does the money between the two mower setups mean a bigger, newer, better bike Gold Wing or Harley wise😂? I would think its what the customers want in your case striped or not and which you like better.

Thanks for watching. Striping isn't a "thing" it's a side effect of mowing in opposite directions. Most people don't know that cutting in circles isn't healthy for the lawn. They just, as you said, cut it. Striping happens when you mow back and forth, which is best for the lawn. The stripes are created by the airflow of the deck when going in different directions. Most people fall in love with them once they see how they make the lawn stand out.

Thanks for watching. My grass isn't too tall. Grass, no matter what species, shouldn't be cut shorter than 2.75 inches. That's not tire tracks. Those are stripes. You only see tire track in grass cut too short.
