    They knew exactly what they were doing when they designed that gas tank! Ever hear of planned obsolescence?? Don’t hold your breath, waiting for them to redesign that gas tank. It is all about THEM making money, not about YOU saving money! If they wanted to save YOU, the customer money. They would not be selling a gas tank that did not even cost them $12 to manufacture … TO YOU FOR ALMOST $300 … after it failed (as it was designed to do) because of its deliberately faulty design!!🥴

    I really appreciate the videos; waiting on a belt for my 9 year old JD 160 rider right now. Starting to get the fever for an upgrade....lol. I know you SHOULDN'T have to do this but have you considered fabricating a deck plug/extension to cover the cutout? doesn't seem like it would take too much time and materials to come up with something. Heck, you could even make it out of some aluminum just to see if it would be beneficial to make it out of steel later.

      @billgriner3754 I, in fact, made one myself. I cut it just a bit larger than the opening than the discharge opening and welded it in place. I wish I could share pictures on here, otherwise, I would show you.

    We bought a second-hand 2013 Gravely Pro-Turn 60 with Kobota diesel in 2015 here on the farm.... My house and my mother's house are a couple hundred yard's apart and about two weeks in to Gravey ownership mom called to ask if I'd left something running at the shop closer to her house.... I told her I didn't think so, but I'd check..... So I gatored up to the shop and there was the Greavy at high idle and about to boil over! With ignition switch in OFF position and Starter Engaged! And cooling fan motor not turning/wasn't energized.... Apon investigation I realized the ignition awitch had shorted out due to all the grass packed under the panel and moisture from where I lightly steamed it off the day before.... I replaced the switch, starter and electric fuel solenoid on the injection pump as all 3 component's were toast! And was thankful the ring gear on the flywheel was unscathed..... And if I remember those 3 components cost the better part of 500 frogskins..... And quiet thankful my mom heard it and that it didn't catch fire and burn up or burn the shop.... Eventually installed a "master switch" on that 1800 # beast and hopefully eliminate unattended electrical dilemma..... And folk's I think mowers/equipment in general are especially notorious for catching fire..... Saying a masterswitch might be a good investment.... No regrets having bought the Gravey, doesn't mow as pretty as a lot of other ZT mowers but cow's don't mind and it's a great mower for spot mowing pasteur weeds.... And hey we grew up on Yazoo's around here.... Randolph County, NC

      @markbouldin6513 Thanks for watching. I don't think anyone around here (Ft. Bragg area) has a yazoo. I might be a horse of a different breed, but that's why I don't run liquid cooled machines. Air cooled engines perform quite well, and there's never a worry about cooling system issues. My first Gravely, a 2008 152 xdz had over 6,000 hours on it when I sold it. The 23 hp kawasaki engine never had a single overheating issue.

    Actually, I was looking at the gravely zero turn mowers. I was going to buy it for our property in Florida, which is less than half an acre. And maybe helping a neighbor or two with their lawns I see that Gravely has a couple of different “levels”. I guess the less expensive model is what they would consider a “homeowner” version. Then they have the “pro turn” mowers which are much more expensive. In layman’s terms, can you explain the difference between these two gravely zero turn mower “levels”? Your videos about your problem with this icon mower should be addressed by Arians! That is completely unacceptable! Thanks!

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV 6 дней назад

      @johnforsyth8414 Thanks for watching. Very good question. I'll explain it the way it was explained to me by the dealer. Any Gravely mower with a rollover protection (ROP) bar is commercial. The Gravely pro turn Z & ZX are their commercial entry level machines. Anything below that is residential and only SLIGHTLY better than this Ariens. I stake my reputation both as a business owner and a youtuber on the quality of Gravely machines, but nothing on the residential side. If you are looking at a particular machine for your own personal use, i.e., using it every two weeks, I would look at the Gravely proturn Z.

      @bamagolds Thanks for watching. They own the rights to sell Gravely but they did not design Gravely machines. Benjamin Franklin Gravely designed them. Ariensco bought the selling rights in 1982. Gravely machines are still built by the same design standards that Mr. Gravely did.

    How much Sand do you mow over?

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV 13 дней назад

      @gateway8833 not much. We do have a couple of properties that, when it gets really dry, it gets dusty. Most of our properties are more loamy than sandy. The problem with the blades is they aren't hardened. I took one of them to a metallurgist and had the steel tested. There were only trace elements of carbon in the steel. That's why they didn't last.

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV 14 дней назад

      @josephhettiger2711 thanks for watching. Not at all. If you do, it's not the line, it's because the user has ejected too much line. I use the .105 diameter because, in commercial applications, it lasts 3 times longer. .155 is brittle due to how hard it is, so I stick with the .105.

  • @Garciaboy80

    Ive used the .105 Stihl square yellow line, cant remember what its called, for the last three years. Its not too bad, not great but it does what I need it to do most of the time. When I get into tough stuff I did out my .130 round line. My old FS 90 doesnt feed it out well but it does work. If that isnt enough I quit playin and the steel blade comes out to play. Anything an inch or under dont stand a chance.

    What do you think is the biggest difference between Gravely and Ariens are? Since both Gravely Mower and Ariens Mower are both made by AriensCo; I would have thought the frame would be pretty much the same.

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV 15 дней назад

      @HikingFreak Thank you for watching. Ariens and Gravely machines are not even in the same solar system. First, Ariensco engineers designed Ariens mowers. Gravely mowers were designed by Benjamin Franklin Gravely. Their first zero turn was built in 1939. Even though Gravely has changed hands several different times over the years, now Ariensco, the machines themselves were not engineered by Arienco. They bought the rights to sell Gravely products, but they are still built by the standards that Mr. Gravely designed them by. They might be assembled and sold by Ariensco, but they are NOT the same. Example: The mower featured in this video weights 640 lbs. My Gravely 352 weighs 1,400 lbs. My first Gravely, a 152 xdz, weighed 1,200 lbs. When I sold it....4 years ago, it had over 6,000 hours on it and to this day, it's still going strong. The Ariens in this video, has 192 hours on it. You saw the repairs I've had to do on it, and I honestly don't know how long they will last. THAT'S the difference.

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV 15 дней назад

      @cprice1 Thanks for watching. As for residential zero turns for personal use, I would take a serious at Cratfsman z series. Avoid ANYTHING with a pressurized Briggs and Stratton. If you're not familiar with what that means, avoid any machine that has a Briggs engine that has an oil filter. Get one with a Kawasaki or Kolher engine. The Craftsman I showed in this video had 847 hours on it when I sold it, and it's still going. I wouldn't recommend it for full time commercial use, but they are tough machines when it comes to personal, home use. If you're not interested in that, check into Cub Cadet.

    That issue with blades is unreal and must be a materials issue with their supply chain.... They need to replace those blades for FREE! Your observations about the gas location is very insightful and hopefully their engineering staff will get that input. Both of those mowers look great. You video was very interesting to watch thanks for putting that together.

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV 16 дней назад

      @jwbranham2009 Thank you for watching. Your assumption about the blades is 100% spot on. Not long after I released this video, I took one of the blades to a metallurgist and had the steel tested. In short, there was no carbon in the metal. Carbon is one of many metal hardening agents. He showed me the test printout, and it showed only minute traces of carbon in the steel. He told me those blades were too soft to be used for mower blades.
