- Hot Wheel Tire Shelf (and light up!) from any tire! How i make my best selling woodworking project.
I have been making these tire shelves for a couple years now and have been success in selling them locally and on Esty and now id like to show everyone how i make mine including the dimensions i use so you can make your own.
This project was one of my first woodworking/maker projects when i was switching my careers from IT to Woodworking. A family friend had asked if we could make some type of display for their sons Hot Wheels collections that involved a tire in some way. After creating this i ended up selling them on Etsy and have seen that they have become popular. I later thought about adding lights to them to make them into a night light style display and that really made them take off. I've seen many other shops make these now and become successful and it feels great to have made something that ended up being popular. My Wife and i thought it would be funny to give them product names like Wheely Neat, Wheely Big, Wheely Lit and Wheely Little and the rest is history!
This project can cost a bit up front but you can use my process to make any spare tire you have into a display for your Hot Wheels or Legos.
If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments.

Cool idea…Grandson is getting a Christmas gift from pops
EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! Thank you for sharing! 😁
Super cool. Thank you for sharing this.
Awesome RC! My boys would love this for their hot wheels. Might have to add this to the project list. Thanks!
Very cool
Wow. Thanks for sharing this brilliant idea. ❤
Thanks so much for showing your technique! I’m making 2 right now for the little boys nextdoor and just guessing my way thru with trial and error. Not working out very well, so came here to see if any kind person had shared how to do it. The tires I have are 29” and thicker than 2 inches, and used, so I’m using 1 by 3 pine. Didn’t think of using spacers! That will help tremendously! I hope I can find the light strips in time. 🤞🏼Bless you and happy holidays!
I hope they turned out well!!
Very good video thank you 😊
thanks!
Thank you for posting this!
My pleasure!
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a fun project.
It is!

Thanks
Super nifty!
Thanks!!
What size are the screws you use? Thanks 😊
How do you clean your tires? Do you paint them?
Hi wes. I actually buy these brand new because they were intended to be mostly in kids rooms. If they had any white text on the tires i would paint them with black chalk paint to make they disapear.
Can you send a link to what LED light you recommend and length?
The type i used is no longer available but really any strip can be used , its just sometimes more work to hide the controller below the bottom shelf.
where did you get the light parts ?
Hi. I actually get them on amazon.
Can you give a parts list? Thanks so much!
In the description it should be layed out :)
