I was watching this and was excited to see a hometown local Gorman win. Good showing against him with an untested setup.
Great stuff. It just goes to show that if you put in the hard work it’ll pay off. I can tell you prepared all year for that competition. Up at 4am every day keeping the system going and making sure everything is perfect. Your dedication to the sport of car stereo installation is to be commended.

I would be surprised if there were more people then 20 years ago. I was at finals 20 years ago in Kansas City and it was packed. The spectators was packed then also.
I been in the car stereo game since 1985. I have been to several huge competitions in my time and i remember there were def. lots more people than this there. I remember every year we couldnt wait to see what the "FISH MAN" had come up with for a huge costom install. I do see the "BASS" ball starting to roll again and it makes me happy to see this!!! I just dont understand why most of these guys dont research some of the big guys in the 90's to see what kind of frequencies they were hitting high DB's on ya know? I was there when Alma Gates hit the first time over 170 and everyone was so happy it sounded like an NFL game and someone had scored a touchdown!!! Anyways, just thought i would add my 2 cents worth! LOL
@@Vincent-Vega24 These younger people do not understand how big audio was back then. When every manufacturer under the sun had a booth showing their products and a whole horde of cars on display and some would even give demos. It was quite the experience to behold. I am happy it is starting to gain some traction again. I am doing my part to get younger kids hooked as I am involved with a bunch of grade school kids who now love bass because of me showing it to them. I still remember the first truck I heard as a kid in the 80s that had some real bass, I have been hooked ever since.

@@russeljones6394 It was a good time. The original "BassnTruck" has been sitting in storage for the last 18 years waiting for version 2. If I can ever get my current projects finished I will make a series bring it back to life. It was doing upper 150s back in the day on music tuned to 20Hz. An original ground pounder and quite the experience for people who have never felt something truly serious at the low frequencies. It would rip the air right out of your lungs. One day it will be back.
I've been at Finals the last 3 years and there was less manufacturer representation there this year than a couple of years ago. Last year Orion had a huge booth, two years ago Phoenix Gold and MMATS were there with demo vehicles. All three of those companies were absent this year.
Meanwhile, there were many more SQ cars there than three years ago. So, that is a positive.
But, from a spectator standpoint the SPL side wasn't as good as it has been.
Definitely something to be proud of!!! That truck has came a far way!!!
How popular is SPL Competitons nowadays?.....Do the big Names: Rockford Fosgate/JBL/Phoenix Gold/Polk Audio/Kicker/Cerwin-Vega/JL-Audio/MTX Audio/Orion/Pioneer still compete?

Your first run you did 168.9 @ 59hz, the next run you did 168.6 @ 61hz same volume level, then 169.3 at 61hz. Why did you go away from 59hz? Also have tested with a broken windscreen? I’m currently working on a SSX vehicle and with broken windscreen it’s 1 dB louder lol

You did great this season Derrick. I saw the whole video and that score! I bet some didn't watch the whole video. Their loss! LOL. Did the windshield hold? Next season is definitely going to be interesting. Hoping we can bring our demo vehicle out if we get it finished. 30 k tuned at 28 hz. Steel reinforced cage 3 to 1 4th order with 6 custom built 12's. Should be quite a crowd pleaser.

Any rules about treating the glass with chemicals or must they be as provided by a commonly available source? There are ways of toughening up glass out there.

@@allenbeasley510 yea I Know I was saying going back to when it all started getting popular. It's crazy how far we have came from the old days. Subwoofer tech has blown up. The price has went down massively also. Thankfully. I remember late 90's erly 00's you would pay a fortune for a decent amp. Now you can get them for a decent price.

169.3!! That is seriously loud. With hearing loss starting at 125 and jet engines and gun shots at 140. 169 is an accomplishment few people can can say they have made. I can't wait to see what Project SPL does next. I genuinely enjoyed watching all you videos leading up to Finals. Thank you Sir, thank you!!!

Not sure, but are their regulations against having a way heavier, tougher windshield ? It seems to me that a 1/2" thick, tempered glass windshield "not only" would not break, causing much PITA, but also, might add some SPL, due to lack of flex ? Crazy loud though... I think I heard that hear in NorCal ;) Good job.

Can't you make some kind of a brace for the windshield for testing purpose only so you can do the testing without have to worry about blowing the glas. The windshield will still be a problem to solve but then you can focus at one thing at the time?!

I can't tell if you're trolling or legit.
He's an employee of Sundown however he runs his own channel apart from the business of Sundown Audio where he does amp bench tests, sub tests and stuff on his free time but doesn't directly represent the company "officially". You can see behind the scenes type stuff as well as his own builds and testing with SA equipment.

Are y'all able to turn my 1200 watt subwoofer into a 2000 watt subwoofer he said y'all do all kinds of rebuilds just seeing if it's possible to put a bigger magnet
It's more cost effective to buy a 2000 watt subwoofer, once you do the stuff you'd need to get it from 1200 to 2000 like the voice coil and magnet assembly it gets too

Get airplane grade glass windows all around they're made out of quartz crystal and literally can stop a round from an F-15 fighter jet not to mention loudest jet engine in the world is right around 180 DB and those windows can handle that noise and the pressure from climbing damn near into space
Jw what's the record meter for a stock bass system no big 3 on 2k power or less? Cause my 2 15s on 2k did a 153.2 db @ 38hz. Jw how close I am to the record.

Walker Americanbass tnt 15s in a dual ported carbon fiber box 7cf tuned @31hz. In a 2001 ford explorer eddie bauer eddition.

Hot dang, boy, do tire sidewalls reduce your SPL Levels?
Also, doesn't anyone make thump-proof windshields, or do they have to be not just transparent, but street legal?
Suggestion: clear acrylic sheet is a non-dark transparent material, even when it is several feet thick. You could get a custom-machine slab of it made like they did for that big aquarium in Japan where they had actual whale sharks in it.
