This is a surprisingly common phenomenon amongst the truly suicidal. It's the elation of knowing their suffering is nearing its end... by force. If you know someone who has been badly depressed for some time and they then quickly appear to have turned over a new leaf for no discernable reason, i.e. going from isolationism to being a social butterfly overnight, you should brace yourself for bad news.
While I believe strongly that suicide is the (literal) ultimate act of selfishness and should be avoided or averted at _any_ cost, that's me and how I choose to live. If an individual believes theirself to have so little agency or control over their own life, lives daily in unbearable pain whether physical or emotional, or is facing a hopeless future with no or next to no alternatives available to them (like terminal illness, prolonged incarceration, or irreconcilable incompatibilities between their own life-state and their environment), then suicide becomes not just a viable option, but the _only_ option. In such cases, *it is not our place to intervene.*
Suicide is a horrible, selfish end for many, but *it is not our right to force life upon those unwilling to live it.*

Yea ok In her final words Chubbuck says how she’ll keep in the practice of the “immediate and complete reports of local blood and guts”. While it can be considered as a sick quip, it can also be seen as satirical commentary on the exploitation of violence in the media. How many times do we hear horrible things occurring on the news over the positive? Whether for some entertainment or some instinctual reason it’s human nature to be drawn to morbid things. And so in a way, she is proving herself right time and time again since we are here, choosing to click on a video that is meant to display the last moments of a grisly suicide. Her death continues to be a subject of interest, and there are still people that seek to find the real footage. She criticized how people continue to seek morbid things, and here we are proving it.

She made a great point with this. Violence is a big attraction on television, and the same goes for cinema. If we are being honest, we have to admit that negativity is what the general audiences love to consume. She was sick of that and gave everyone what they wanted.

As horrific as this tragedy is, human beings focus naturally on the negative because it can impede us from our daily tasks, like bad weather or a car accident on a highway are negative events but are sometimes necessary to know about if you live within the general area and maybe even travel along the same highway. I was obsessed with this case for a while. I researched Christine's history and everything. It seems to me that she wanted to live in the television. You know she when to 4 colleges in 4 years. This is rare, and every time she went to a bigger and better college until she landed in NYU (when NYU was a big deal and not just accepting anyone who was willing to pay their tuition). Then she got a summer television internship. Soon after that she worked in TV, I think in Pittsburgh, then moved to Sarasota, FL and got into computers for a few years until she got back into TV in that area. She was not good at getting men, she had a rush on a camera guy at her studio but he was dating another woman at that studio and they kept the relationship secret because they knew Christine was "sensitive". Christine baked this guy a cake for his birthday. When Christine found out that she was not most likely not going to have a baby after the age of thirty, then finding out about her camera guy crush dating her friend, she bought a gun, learned how to use it, then used the gun on herself. Her family knew she was suicidal, Christine's suicide was a common topic she talked about with her mother (her parents divorced when Christine was a kid). If the audio exists the video exists. July 14, 1974.

My post below IN NO WAY encourages anyone to hurt themselves or anyone else. Still...
YT made me edit some words & sentiments here. I don't write a lot of commentary, so I'm going to try to make the changes I think YT wants me to make without changing the overall message:
I've heard that as well - "self is a coward's way out." To that I say: The fuck do you know about courage? It takes exactly zero courage to trash the mindset of a self person. YOU are the coward. YOU didn't have the courage, let alone the time or effort to help that person ease their pain. I say it takes tremendous courage to do such an irreversible, powerful act, repellant as it may be to you.
Shit, I have my own pain - both emotional and physical - I want more than anything else to be free of this pain. Both pains keep getting worse by the day. And all that keeps me from curing myself is the LACK of COURAGE. This is my opinion, and mine alone.
The day my pain > my fear -->
      my courage > my pain.
Then I can finally and be released from this torture.
So these ignorant, unaware, self-righteous people who say "self is a coward's way out" can take their sanctimonious platitudes and shove them waaaay up their asses, where the rest of their arrogance is kept.
      By the way:
If you say this to a self-prone, depressed person (or just within earshot), you risk your entire relationship with them, because in that moment, you show them just how little you care about them and how insignificant you find their pain to be.
Basically, if you utter these (or similar) words, you are a shit friend. Try instead to help your friend by talking to them on their level, and if you can't be bothered to do that, seek the help of someone who can/will.
This is (I believe) a pretty important message, so I hope the powers that be do not see fit to erase it.
-just my humble opinion. Just an opinion. Try not to freak out.

As someone with depression who, like Christine, struggles with finding/keeping relationships and friendships, I really do understand that hopeless and utterly alone feeling that she must have been going through. It's sad, seeing how mental health was treated back then, but to look on the brighter side of things, we have come leaps and bounds since the 60's/70s when it comes to treating mental health. It's always hard thinking about all the people who died in the past for reasons that can be dealt with now.
Hopefully this audio is enough closure for the people who were only really interested in the true crime aspect of her death. I would still like to have the video itself released, purely to have this piece of history archived. I don't think I could bring myself to watch the video if it does make it's way to the public.
I hope Christine is in a better place now. At the very least, she is no longer suffering.

Leaps and bounds in mental health - not a chance. I have been in the system 30 years, the system now - is primitive, cold, even evil. I have had a literal hell of a time with mental health professionals. I have been to 8 hospitals, 50 therapists, 50 psychiatrists, and just as many outpatient programs all over the US, so I am qualified to say this. It's a farce. The field has become a joke.🔥

The video was lost. The audio was found but the videos of the death has been wiped. No trace of it remains. This is just sad.

she had a sense of humor about it, and took the piss out of the station selling blood and guts to the public. THis is what you folks at home want to see, right?

Here from "The Darkest Lost Media [Vol. 1]".
I think the part that puts me on edge is the audible exhale you hear right after the shot. It's proof that it's legit more than anything (don't ask me how I know that).
Not excusing her actions, but this is an obvious result of both the environment of the time, and perfectly lined-up individual circumstances.
In a way it was kind of inevitable, and more or less another push for safety protocols in modern media.
My condolences to her family, but it doesn't make it any less fascinating.

Rest in Peace, Christine. Such a beautiful soul, just being misunderstood by 1970s society which didn't understand about psychology and mental health awareness.

Every once awhile i come back to famous stories like this whether it's lost media or disappearences i try to not do it to often because even people who make videos about these subjects say it can be to much and they need to take a break. As someone who is in my mid 20s she was a couple years older i understand why she was so distraught i am personally doing okay but we all go thru funks. Mid 20s is a weird time and you're kind of in a in-between age not that far from when you were in college but also old enough to understand adult issues. As someone who trys to be understanding and be there for others i wish some our age were a little better not jumping to conclusions and judging others treat others like you wanna be treated not as hard as some wanna make it and realize we all have shit we're going thru.. 🙌

Oh that is so haunting to hear that gun shot, knowing what happened. What makes it more eerie is that because because your so focused on listening, your brain fills in the blanks of the visual cues.
