BAMBU LAB X1 Carbon AMS 3D Printer Full Unbox, Setup & Tests

- Welcome to my SECOND attempt to perform an unboxing video of the BAMBU LAB X1 Carbon with AMS 3D Printer. Long and tedious unboxing so feel free to skip the boring parts that interest you the most BELOW!
Highlights are the actual unboxing, attaching AMS, first print, noise test, and a final complex print of the NASA SLS Artemis Rocket.
This amazing printer was on kickstarter and as of right now (Sept2022) many are still eagerly awaiting their units or jumped on a new pre-ordered.
This printer as many have mentioned is redefining our expectations of speed and quality, with capabilities out of the box of 500mm/s and 20k acceleration, with input shaping tech. Another big feature for many is the AMS! Which house 4 filament spools for multi-material printing!

You know it’s packaged so you can pull the unit out with the bag, those stickers holding the two sides of the wrap are for you to simply pull up.
I do now thank you. Its pretty heavy was and didn't want to risk it at the time.

Finally some insights on the noise level. Thanks for it.
No problem! I don't find it too loud in my workshop. However, don't recommend putting it in your living room, running at standard speed, if you want some peace and quiet. The sound travels from one floor to the next fyi.
@@3dlootlab, crap, I have to have it in my bedroom as my workshop area is not only a disaster, but is in an unheated garage. Hopefully there will be a way to add some insulation to reduce the noise!
@@robertharper3754 yeah over time I have noticed the noise more. The silent mode helps. There is an STL on printables to act as a muffler for the exhaust fan at the back, this really reduces the noise.
Some people have put them in cabinets/boxes that help.
Fortunately you may have the option to use it in the garage, but just close the door and heat the bed for a bit to raise the chamber temp to at least 15C. Then it may work fine in the winter?
@@3dlootlab, eh, making the space for it would be a hell of a lot of work that my back couldn't handle.
Not to mention the garage is where I have just a wee bit of flammable stuff, and by wee bit, I mean a crap ton, if a fire started in there it would get out of control pretty fast as soon as it hit one of the giant tubs I keep my gunpowder in, or the camping stove fuel, or the ammo cans, ect.
@@3dlootlab, I do have a bit of work to clear space for whatever I put the printer on, and now that you mention people putting their printers inside cabinets I'll have to check a cabinet out in the garage. Sadly, I wouldn't be able to get it out of the garage due to cars being in the way right now, but that should be solved by spring. Thanks for the idea and keep the videos coming!

Thank you, thats very encouraging! I can barely stand my own voice and stuttering in my own videos. Hope to improve. Yes, two years on I make decent money, almost an average income. Not quitting my day job yet, costs are high. I plan to make a video how others can start 3D printing as a side hustle.

I think the way to select what filament color you want to print is on the 4 large square that show on @27:26 (where it says PLA)... I think that the way you choose the filament color by selecting one of those

I just received my X1-Carbon yesterday. Taking my time to get it ready to run, but should be some time today. Looking forward to seeing if it lives up to all the hype.

I'm about to do the same, though it will probably be tomorrow before I get everything set up, I have to move a small cabinet quite a distance by myself so I have something sturdy to put the printer on. I'm really excited, this is my first 3D printer and I already have a giant list of things to print! Next week I'll start trying to learn tinkercad or a similar program so I can make my own prints, as an old fart I know that all of this will fry my last few remaining brain cells but it will be worth it!
@@robertharper3754 If you haven't heard of Fusion 360, I'm pretty sure it's still free for makers and entrepeneurs.
@@GeneralChangFromDanang, yeah, I'm going to look into it, there seems to be just as many tutorials for Fusion 360 as Tinkercad, and lord knows I'll need all the help I can get!

How’d you get it to print? I’ve calibrated mine a whole bunch and it won’t stick to the plate like at all
Hi, I just got my Bambu lab X1 combo yesterday and the first few prints have been spaghetti-like, any advice on how to fix it? 😭
Did you order just the printer and did it come with all of that? Or did you buy the printer and then added a bunch of other stuff like filament rolls and parts. I need to know if I need to order filament and parts when buying the printer.
I ordered the the X1C with AMS bundle that comes with some extra parts and filament. Regardless you will need to buy filament of your own as they only give you less than 1kg of filament.
Great video. Most of the videos so far have been with free pre-production units and just about all have had issues in one form or another. I hope this is a production unit and I look forward to seeing how it works for you in the future. I'm ready to buy one as soon as I am confident at least 90% of the bugs have been fixed. One question maybe you can answer at some point. The calibration print (lines) take up a fair portion of the build surface. If you have calibration turned off for that will it use that space for printing your project?
Thanks! I have had 9 different printers before. Been using the X1 a tonne and while not perfect it's definitely a "game changer". Well worth over several Ender 3, if you have the money. You can opt out of having the Calibration lines (which I usually do to save time), but even if you didn't you print will run over it (Which I haven't had an issue with but don't recommend).
@@3dlootlab Imagine a 500x500x600 at least or what Prusa is doing with 800x800x900 with enclosed fast printing, reliable and capable of printing PLA to metal. Along with able to change nozzles and different materials automatically.
@@deltaboy2011 yes indeed. Prusa XL is only 360mm no? I'm torn between the XL and the Bambu.
I have two X1C and right now both heatbeds have failed to heat...So I may go with the Prusa as they seem to be more reliable and can be real workhorses.

@@3dlootlab yeah it’s 360 I made a mistake on printer dimensions instead of print dimensions. But one can hope for such dimensions for that bed size

I love this silver so much after testing like 20 brands. Best metal sheen. I went with the supplier to brand my own filament mainly because of this lol. I just haven't marketed it yet.
Next best silks silver I found was Geeetech ultra silk, AMZ3D, Hello3D
@15:13 I will mostly due the same here, but I've heard if you print using TPU, it's not recommended to use TPU in the AMS, so you may want that spooler back piece installed just to use that for TPU at least.
Yes! I've used the AMS multiple times with TPU without issue, then all of a sudden one time, I had it get stuck in the AMS!
So the back it the way to go.
The retraction of TPU is a nightmare
what did you slice the SLS with ?
So really complicated but manually used Cura to move parts together for each color, then each colour exported to STL. Then imported the STL to the Bambu Slicer, and Merged/Assembled...real pain.
Do you happen to have the file for the rocket?
How does the speed to quality ratio compare to your RatRig?
Oh there is no comparison, a well built ratrig is in a league of its own. Speeds of 250 is the average speed but you should be able to push to 300-500 mm/s, with acceleration 5-20k. All depending on the parts used and how well built. But the ratrig will set you back couple thousand. Mine cost around 3.5K CAD. You also have to spend the TIME to build it. 40-100 hours is not what some people want or are capable of doing. You have to know how to do wiring properly for instance. Voron is an easier build.
you mentioned you had issues with the palette. what version did you use?
P3 Pro, cutter and core replaced as well. :/ Great little machine but so many points of potential failure.
How do you end up choosing the correct filament? Mine has not come in yet. This video has been so incredibly useful. I even wish you didn't skip any part. Everything you did show will probably help me when mine comes. Thank you for angling the camera in when you did. Are we supposed to clean the glue off after a print before the next?
So you cannot choose a different filament it seems for the pre-loaded Gcode (though this may change in the future). Thank you! Good to know others at my skill level can benefit from my mistakes :D No need to clean the glue off. I just reapply where the print were. The print works fine without the glue, but it protects the build plate surface. After lots of printing and sometimes without glue the Cool Plate stick began to bubble and lift off the build plate! Thats why they give you a couple of extra Cool plate stickers. Engineering plate so far has been robust.
@@3dlootlab Most glue sticks are water soluble. Maybe you could periodically wash off the glue in warm water and the surface may last longer. I normally print on glass, I hope there is a solution to do that in the future. After a few prints if I use glue stick (which I don't often need) I remove the glue stick in this way and reapply.

You were supposed to pulled the printer out by grabbing the plastic holders that they convenient tape to each side of the box.

Thats a different scraper model that's also available. That might be a bit harsh for my use :)

Beat my expectations. I've jumped on a lot of kickstarters and its always not as good as they say it will be. This is a game changer for sure. Hope yours comes soon and free of complementary shoe prints lol!

Yeah the P1P is looking like the better alternative if you like to tinker.
There's directions on how to get it out so you don't have to dump it. Lack of reading directions is probably why you can't get your P3P to work.
I wish it were that simple. Turned out the splice core needed replacing and I had a cracked cutter, also replaced. Even after that splicing worked and my pings and pongs were all within 1% deviation, yet color eventually would be slightly off. Though I was pushing it as the print had >400 splices to go through. Smaller spliced prints I was able tune and print fine.

Just in case I mis-understood and you don't know. This is direct drive. Retraction default is 0.8mm, not bad :)

This printer is fucking shit:
the setup is not as easy as claimed by all reviewers:
the QR code wich appears in the setup isn’t working. The actual one is hidden in the menu of the display.
The AMS setup wasn’t working according to the manual or videos.
And from bambulab you can expect absolutely no support. It’s probably just a letterbox company. I can’t even return the printer, because nobody responds. I bought it, because I’m a beginner and wanted an easy start, but the opposite is absolutely the truth.
Therefore Istrongly recommend not to buy this printer.
