if you mean ruin every chance of a self defense case by doing every thing wrong including lying to the police and ditching the weapon then yes you are right. All of these people mocking this witness for speaking Spanish are being azzes. I'm sure he speaks some English, but he's probably more comfortable answering questions in his native language since it's very important for him to be precise and say all the right words.
As a US-born Hispanic, I can attest to the fact that many of them can live here many years and speak only transactional English, "thank you," "have a nice day." Surprisingly, I've met some people in that boat who end up dating English-only speakers. It's just a lack of diligence that prevents acquiring English, even after many years living in the US. The group Nicholae was with was mostly Hispanic - I wonder if Nicholae spoke some Spanish.

After watching the video and listening to several testimonies, I've concluded that just about everyone involved was acting like an instigator and should have just kept to themselves. A lot of people screwed up their lives in just a few moments of foolishness immature behavior.
Especially the 50 something Mechanical Engineer

Old man: 'I'm looking for a lost phone" (confirmed as true)
Teens: "You are a pedo looking for little girls" (no evidence)
Teens: Bully and torment old man relentlessly. (per video evidence)
Old Man: Defends himself with pocket knife.
Teens: No longer tough but crying and are now "victims" (according to them)
Old Man: NOT GUILTY

He multiple chances to walk away. He decided to stay in that situation that was basically guaranteed to escalate. Those teens should not have jumped, they're not justified. But that man had every chance to walk away. Not one person here is innocent.

Thanks for leaving out the critical part at the beginning of the whole incident where he runs up to the group and starts grabbing them.
Although it is a tragedy a young man’s life was taken, as a victim of bullying by crowds of teens myself, I find it somewhat hard to sympathize especially knowing how cruel they can be. This culture of worldstar fight videos and predator hunting for views seemed to have ultimately created this situation.

Imagine if there was no camera footage. This guy would be screwed. Yes, it's a tragedy, however, if these courts and prosecutors continue criminalizing self defense we are all screwed.

It's gross watching the prosecutor trying to make it look like it wasn't. Charge the guy with lying to police. It's certainly not murder. That fact that he was even charged like this is scary. I mean, tossing the knife and playing dumb after stabbing multiple people is a serious offense not to mention horrible optics. Had Miu not tried to cover-up a homicide, I'd be 100% on his side. The woman put her hands on Nic before he hit her, she was in his face screaming and swearing, once she placed her hands on him he had every right to put his hands on her
Naw, she was no threat. It was touching him to turn him around. Not forceful at all. His push or punch actually knocked her back.
She never physically assaulted him she put her hand on his arm to turn him around that gives you no right to puch someone
Self-defense law requires the response to match the threat level in question. In other words, a person can only use as much force as required to remove the threat.
There should be exemptions for 13 people against one. That would require the victim to use greater force due to their nunbers.

@yaboi347 It can but yes, depending on what they are doing. Not one of them seriously threatened him to the level he needed to use deadly force. And, the jury found, he initiated the confrontation which means he couldn't claim self defense. And yes, the girls hands were briefly on him trying to turn him around to leave, just as before he lunged at the boys in the tubes grazing their legs looking for the phone. You start touching, you have to be ok being touched. Beyond that, only one "assailant" hit and slapped him after he hit the girl and then after that he started stabbing... one who was just standing there posing no threat and another who was trying to help break it up and verbally told everyone to back off.
@@LovernotafighterFL I disagree, he was knocked to the ground several times with assailants raining blows on top of him, maybe none of them were severe yet but are you supposed to let one really hurt you before you do something? The fact so many people were assaulting him whilst he was on the ground and his head was repeatedly knocked under water and he was being held down, I definitely can see why he feared for his life and decided not to tolerate anymore, you would have to be insane or just beyond worthless to let that happen to you.
He is clearly not guilty, he did not chase anyone, everyone who was cut came to him to push punch kick and drown, once he got away he had no reason to defend himself as he only wanted to be left alone, that is not too much to ask, not guilty
So why when in the police car did he play innocent.
He asked what happened & why he was in the police car.
Then said”Oh.. there was A stabbing & I look like the suspect “

He ran at the boys and grabbed the tube stopping it from moving and right before that he checked his knife so he ran up and grabbed someone holding them against their will with the intention of using a knife if a fight broke out he started the physical altercation and started stabbing people when it didn't go his way you can not run to a ground of people with a knife and the intention of using it than clam self defence if he was worried he should of walked away before making contact with the boys tube

You feel like a coward for running away even if you struck out to defend yourself, i was mugged by two junkies, a needle was held to my neck, two days later the cops arrested me for knocking one out cold while the other had the needle in his eye, to this day i cannot remember fighting back even though it was all captured on cctv thankfully
An innocent persons normal reaction after incident:
Hurry and call police and tell them you were just assaulted and used a knife for self defense
A guilty person's actions after incident:
Toss the knife, tell people in your group that the kids had a knife, flee the scene and try to leave, and when approached by police act confused and then lie lie and lie some more
It's clear you didn't watch a lot of the trial so far. Regardless of what words they called him or however they acted, he was the adult and rushed a group of teens and when a female told him to leave, he wouldn't take being bossed around by a woman and he hit her and when the kids pushed him/hit him, he started slicing. Now had he went and got a phone and called police and told them he was using self defense then he would look better but he did nothing but try to avoid being caught and that proves he wasn't being assaulted by them and that he was the aggression in this situation. Again, he was the adult and should have never rushed them(clear as day in the video) and he should have went to his group with his feelings hurt by a group of kids.
That second group escalated the attack on that man. Self defense. If I was alone I would have been so scared too.

@@Whitemale112 He was not snorkeling with kids. The gang of violent teenagers did not own the river. They created the whole incident and Carlson group of tubers attacked him. They made first physical contact. Multiple people from Carlson's group assaulted him and then the violent group of drunk teens joined in the attack. They were going to severely beat or kill Miu. Issac tried to strangle Miu, and that's when Miu had no choice but to escape the threat by defending himself by any means.

after video and more videos of witness testimony and seeing the several breakdowns of the original video taken by the black guy during the initial conflict, yes, I too saw a bunch of drunken men and women make accusations about the guy trying to find the lost camera. They laughed and assaulted him and yes they even stole his mask and thew it away for bullying fun. all the while making jokes and laughing. then began the real issue, the so called kids assaulted the man, threw him down in the water several times and gathered around him overpowering him and yelling hes a pedophile and taunting him mercilessly. time and again the video shows him being pushed in the water by several men and the women were screaming foul language at him. finally, after some time of this disgusting bullying he was able to gain his footing for a moment and took to defend himself and lashed out at the ones who were surrounding him and assaulting him. I see them crying today, wailing of pity me, pity the poor children who turned out to be hooligans drunk and beating on a solitary man who had done nothing to deserve being beaten and shoved and forced underwater. he was looking for the lost camera, he was attacked by drunken crowd and he defended himself.. now they cry for pity...NO! if i were a jurist, id see it for what it was, he was attacked without cause.....he was being forced underwater by a group of hooligans and alone he defended himself. shame on those who call themselves victims now...

I've watched the video multiple times and he dropped his scuba gear after he had it in his mouth, then you see a kids hand move the water around to help it float away before he could get it. Is there another video out there that I haven't seen? He definitely had the right to defend himself, but i don't know where people saw them take his scubba gear off of him. He never would have been found guilty if I were on that jury...

I was there but i didn't see what happened we were leaving. I saw more cops and helicopters than i ever seen before in Somerset. All we heard was somebody was stabbed. I had no idea this trial was what happened that day.

The drunk kids claiming to be "afraid" of Mr. Mui, when they are a group of 6 vs an elderly man.
AJ...the "not a fighter" witness shown on video punching Mr. Mui in the head and then pushing him down into the water.
And a mob of 6 drunk kids high on marijuana, fabricating a narrative that Mr. Mui was a child rapist, screaming it at the top of their lungs to invite a mob to descend and attack him.
If anyone should go to prison, it is the kids, and their shitty parents who allowed their kids to get piss drunk and high on drugs.

Such a sad situation, however i could not find a guilty verdict. I have doubts and second thoughts. I could go for manslaughter maybe..but not the charges he facing. The case was not proven for me unfortunately

@@alangarciadominguez3451 the kids started it. I saw the video. The kids lied. The main instigator said "He's looking for little girls!" So Mui flipped his tube in 4 feet of water. When he went looking for the cell phone, the kids surrounded him one punched him, got stabbed and pushed him in the water. Another punched him while he was down. So, when they tried to attack him they got stabbed because they didn't see the knife.
I'm just tired of how many are only blaming the one who was ganged up on. Like really, did we all forget that actions have consequences? Those people chose to mob someone in a waterway and make that person anxious over their life, so he reacted in a way to defend himself, he just so happened to be armed.
It sucks someone died, but that will be on his conscious for the rest of his life. But it was self defense and those in the aggressor group should be treated as aggressors. Actions have Consequences whether you are drunk, or high, they made it so someone felt unsafe and that person acted in kind.
Nobody deserved to die here; having said that…these teens were definitely bullying and harassing this man as well as attacking his character calling him a raper. Filming their own guilt with pride and pompous joy. This was self defense 100%
This testimony has a ring of truth. This man did not know the defendant and had no skin in the game. This is his view from outside looking in. Also, another witness almost had the same testimony. This is such a sad situation. An old man is looking for a cell phone in a river and floats upon drunk and high people. Someone yells, "He's looking for young girls," and incites hostility. This sets the wheels in motion. So sad.
1. he did know him, he came there with him. 2. it's not an "old man". older than the young people, yes.

Didn't need to be told 50 times to leave and HE was the first aggressor when he pushed the kids and their tubes. He instigated the whole thing and egged the kids on and on. The breaking point happened when he decided to start with a second group at the same time and turn it up to a breaking point he himself made happen.

At first I was thinking that Mui should have just walked away to shore, but now after watching more of the trial, I think the young people wouldn't have allowed him to get off that easy.

Ater watching hours of testimony and reading all of the reports, I am convinced that this trial is nothing but a witch hunt. As a mother of sons, I understand the need to blame someone, but I also know what a bunch of young guys half-drunk can cause and this is it. I don't think for one minute that this man had any ill intent and genuinely feared for his life and reacted accordingly. It's sad that this man's entire life is ruined because a bunch of immature man/kids couldn't just mind their own business and instead chose to show off to each other. I wouldn't call any of the people injured "victims", and just by virtue of the fact that they are referred to as such indicates to me that this isn't going to end well for this man and his family. I also don't know why the attorney didn't ask for a change of venue. Anyway, I pray that this man is found innocent and those who were injured learn something from this..

The amount of people that think this is justifiable and will hold up in court as self defense is scary. If you have any Knowledge of self defense laws it is easy to see he did every single thing wrong from the start of the encounter. He was up river when they were exchanging words and he was the one that rushed downriver away from his group to further instigate the situation. After an attack as the defender you must contact the police and surrender the weapon and give your statement. He lied and hid the weapon then tried to leave the scene. That will never hold up in court as self defense. What you do after is just as important as the encounter when it comes to the court of law

Not one person who has never been in this situation can honestly say how you would or wouldn't react. I believe this witness when he said he didn't remember something when it first happened because of all the stress he had just witnessed. Sometimes, your brain tries to protect you and block things out. When the police first questioned him, he hadn't had time to reflect on what just happened. It's been almost 2 years. He has had almost 2 years to think about what he saw. This whole situation could have been avoided had those kids minded their own buisness and kept their hands to themselves. I was taught that at an early age.
This prosecutor is absolutely terrible. This witness was terrible. Only one good question needed to be asked by the prcecutor. What did Miu tell you that he did to them after seeing all that blood?

He has his snorkel in his hand when he charged after these kids, not wearing it snorkeling. He dropped it trying to tackle the group of tubers. You heard me, that older man. Couldn't take being teased by kids and he lost his shit. Charged after them, went hands on and that's when the girls got there and tried to tell him to go away. Then he hit one of them, that is when the boys engaged him. These attorneys are absolutely awful

How did Ariel lose his phone in the area by the teens, which were dowstream, when Nic Mui's group was still upstream & hadn't yet passed that point in the river...What Am I Missing???
Water flows … moves downstream… physics. Mui’s group was upstream where the phone was lost, and the water was moving things downstream … which is the direction he was looking for the phone since it would have floated that direction :) same as the tubes they were in. Hope this helps.

No matter what, the MAN wasn't trying to just Protect himself, he was Gutting them! You can see how he was holding the knife. The Girl that got a little bit more than Stabbed, looked like she was bitching at the heavier sized MAN for hitting [be it slap or punch] the other Girl. That MAN did not look like he was in Fear as he Gutting was those young ones that had no weapons of any kind. I understand things getting Louder when the Girl was Hit , then once Blood was seen from the Girl that did NOTHING to make that MAN attempt to Gut [not only stab] her.
