"Storytelling is about two things; it's about character and plot." - George Lucas.
And theme
@@kronikren1822theme is a symptom of plot and character
I read this incredible blog many years ago that compared the character of Anakin Skywalker with Jesus Christ, and I do see similarities between the two characters. The virgin birth, the son of the all powerful force, death, the ressurection and redemption. It was such an incredible piece of writing, I wish I could remember it's name.
I would've loved to read it, would've helped with making this video for sure!
Key point there being one looked for his own redemption after going bad and the Other redeemed the whole world which had gone bad.
I would argue that Anakin is meant to embody Jesus, but the narrative he's set in is a Jewish one, not the usual Christian type, which makes it so interesting. We cheer for Obi-Wan (Judas) when he leaves his brother to rot, facing the reality that he has become a threat.
He's jesus if he gave into Satan's temptation, such a cool mythological take
@@thesuperframe I hope you make videos about sci-fi movies soon.
In some ways Star Wars is a myth but, at same time a desconstruction of it. It gives a tale we are familiar but also with our perspection of concepts like about good and evil. Anakin/Vader is the greatest exemple of this. When he''s introduce in A New Hope we just knew that Vader, this big bad villain. He was a scary monster that we want Luke to defeat. But then when he revealed himself as Anakin, things became more complex. He wasn't just pure evil figure, but a fallen warrior, someone who used to be great hero, a figure everybody (from Obi Wan, to Ashoka, to Padme, to Jedi Concil) expected to be this savior, the choosen one, uncapable of making evil actions, forgetting the human behind the hero, his flaws, his fear and what this was turning him into.
Same goes with the fall of the republic. It's possible that many people, when heard Obi Wan telling Luke about the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire, just assumed the Empire was just an evil group that came in and took over the galaxy by simple use of brute strenght. But the prequels to reveal the dark truth: The republic wasn't invaded by the Empire, it became the Empire. The clone wars, this legendary battle wasn't a battle between good and evil, just a big scheme so Palpatine could become more powerful and the heroes victories were just means for him to achive his goal.
Bro is cooking 😭
Great to see more videos from people that are actually informed on what Star Wars is and appreciate George Lucas.
Great video, what a wonderful interpretation of Star Wars, Star Wars was always very politically religious to me, love this.
4:42 That's some way to distort reality. Coppola taught Lucas how to write a screenplay, but he was a great filmmaker in his own right long before he stepped in.
This video was amazing, very linear and short to the point sure but you also dived deeper into what made this franchise so special. Thanks man also next time you should breakdown some other movie franchises like Harry Potter, The Matrix and so on...
It's been a few years since I've revisited this universe, but a week ago I got nostalgic and here I am) always loved the prequel trilogy with its idas and characters. Thanks for the video!
Amazing interpretation and editing ❤
Good video. Star Wars is much more than a movie saga.
Great video, I';m going to show this to my former professor in film school to show to other students.
One thing though, Vader wasn't "redeemed", one good act does not redeem someone who's committed mass murder and genocide. And remember Anakin was slaughtering innocents long before he became Vader.
After yor Dune and now Star Wars essay I subscribed!
After exploring classical and medieval epics for myself before reading Campbell I found that he had influenced modern understandings of the heroes journey far more than those classical works did because his ideas weren't honest with them really at all. His influence on star wars is like Disney's influence on fairy tales where a method becomes so common that method becomes the new reality and the essence of the past is disregarded. In my view that pure essence is so much deeper than modern presupposed interpretations like Campbell's based around the commodification and simplication of archetypes. He debased those stories and the understandings of their cultures into a framework that fit in with the universalism common in his own time and culture. In short I think he's just a liar that capitalized on growing illiteracy and entire generations that had their understanding of the past sculpted by men like him
awesome man :)
Phenomenal Job!!!❤️💙🤘⚡
i actually got chills from that intro👌
Hero of a thousand faces was based on the work of Carl Jung. Jung GOSE DEEP!
Nice editing
Your channel is way too underrated
✨❣️
Amazing👏👏👏👏👏
9:28, While fear is a core aspect of Anakin’s fall, 8:54, it’s also in his inability to keep his ego in check. It’s what led him towards jealousy and greed when he felt insecure about his ability to protect what he deemed his.
Meanwhile, someone like Obi-Wan (who is also portrayed as someone who experiences fear, but relies on his faith in the righteousness of the Jedi to motivate him), while often stubborn and myopic, would largely neglect their own ego in favor of blind loyalty to the Jedi Order and the code they would soon break in order to fulfill their religious obligations to destroy the Sith at all cost.
Especially in the Clone Wars show, Anakin’s increasingly ego-driven acts of malice that become less about protecting his loved ones than they are about him feeling secure in his own ability to protect them is contrasted in the Jedi making several crucial errors out of ignorance and insisting on obeying dogma rather than the will of the Force (even if the dogma had legitimate reasons for being in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent their members from accessing the Dark Side and losing their sanity).
Ur best video ever. Great Job
Great vid I no U don’t do anime content but I would love to hear your thoughts on the live action one piece as it essentially retells old myths like Star Wars it’s like a modern oddisy
