As a Celebration show, I don't believe there could have been a better one. This performance was for the fans and the performers; and without question, Phantom captured the hearts and souls of everyone in the house. Those kids will remember that last two minutes for the rest of their lives. Wonderful job, Phantom!
The thing I will always say about this edition of the shows that these performers gave it the love it deserves, and played it like they were living a bucket list dream. That feeling is the whole reason we as Phans show them the kind of love we do. Because they make us feel.
Hi! As a PRCG member that was in this show, it means so much to hear how much we touched the audience! This is a moment I will remember for the rest of my life! Thank you for your kind words.
You can see the man in the regiment corps jacket 10 rows up visibly laughing or sobbing during the ballad. His shoulders keep bumping. Either way there is no describing what he is feeling as an alumni of the Phantom Regiment this entire show. I am in tears myself.
I'm a grown ass, 51 year old, generally unemotional fella... and this show makes me ugly cry. I marched Freelancers 1987-1992. I have zero involvement with Phantom Regiment. Up until 2019, I wouldn't have even considered myself a Regiment fan... but 2019.. those kids got me. Seeing them work their asses off and fight until the final note to make finals, well that got me hooked. Reminded me of the 1992 Freelancers a bit. And then, just as they were starting to get their mojo back along comes this damned virus and we lose a season. I was very worried about how lots of corps would cope, but especially so Regiment. Then along comes THIS. Seeing THIS group of kids put the Phantom F&*king REGIMENT back to their rightful place with possibly the best show ever written, well what else can you say.. or do.. other than let it all out! Best bit, is I bet hjalf of those kids had NO IDEA what they were doing at that time... though I am sure they now know.
This is one of the classics. It speaks the poetry drill can make with music. It takes its time to build emotional power. And it is more than tooting horns and banging drums; it is the lush, varied, and beautiful music that Phantom at its best does best!
i must have watched this show over 20 times and still cannot express in words how I feel, The kids in Phantom came prepared to throw down and that they did!!
One the best shows of all time. So happy to see it reprised 17 years later. I really hope this performance - much of which was copied exactly as it was presented in 2003 - leaves a lasting impression on DCI and reminds the activity of what it once was. Props, weird dances, massive musical discontinuities, and the general pageantry that has invaded DCI has detracted so much from the activity in the pursuit of evolution - but not all changes are progressive and evolutionary, and in the case of DCI, I really think all the new additions have been subtractions. This show demonstrates that so clearly. All you need is a great score, great drill, and great performers to make a all-timer show. Please, DCI - drop the crap and go back to shows like this.
I'm just wondering when people are gonna stop pretending that their own subjective interpretation of drum corps is somehow better than past or future interpretations of it.
I've watched several versions of this show and the lead drum major always gives the same punch on the last hit before the chorale at the end - 9:39 on this one. Gotta love a drum major who can actually conduct - it adds so much to the show. Well done, Phantom!
What struck me the most about the show aside from the obvious nostalgia factor, was the excellence that it was PERFORMED. The proficiency of each caption, the execution of all performative facets was at the highest level. I'm laughing at the armchair prognosticators putting PR in the 8-12 tier this coming season, and I know they have not taken this show performance into account. Other corps did throwback numbers and repeats in '21, but Phantom was the only corps to actually improve on the original. This is a top 5 corps in 2022. If they are not, I will eat all the crow the internet can serve me.
My parents marched in the 70's and would take me to PR shows every year growing up (born in '91). Harmonic Journey was always the year that stuck out over any other and I always remember it as my favorite show. It never fails to home more than any other show I'd watched in drum corps. Brings me right back to the summer nights as a kid, where every year my summer was marked by hearing the horns playing down the road at the college where they practiced and drum corps shows for the Phantom Regiment. They did a great job this year on such an iconic Regiment show.
So glad I got watch this show live, the crowd saw Phantom in the tunnel and they were already on their feet cheering. The amount of standing ovations in one show is simply amazing, Phantom definitely deserved it!
I have followed Phantom for years. Loved the ‘03 program. Reprise spectacular. Understated, classy, thrilling music, field presence captivating, just overall joyful and moving program. This 77 year old loved these kids.
Wow.... I have never seen so many standing ovations in 1 show. I'd be shocked if this wasnt the audience's favorite show. I'd also be shocked if The Regiment did not place in the top 3 or 4 if there were placements. I love Phantom.
Phew, lol! I had to watch this 3 times before I could see all of it. The first two my eyes were filled with tears of pride and joy! I am so very proud of OUR REGIMENT! SUTA! PHANTOM REGIMENT FOREVER!
I wasn't able to be there live, but even watching it over the internet I still loved every second of this show. I insisted my family let me watch it in the den and after it was over my mom asked me why I was crying. Even though I never marched with Phantom, the original run of this show in 2003 has always been my favorite show and was the primary reason I decided to march DCI and kept marching for five years. I mean, I saw the announcement for this show while at work and was a sobbing mess of excitement sitting at my desk. These kids absolutely did the show justice and should be so proud of what they accomplished, despite the difficulties this season had.
My hope is that every corps does a classic show. Like getting to hear Madison's 1995 show live, or Blue Devils 92, or cadets 84 live would be such a treat in modern drum corps
Such a great show and performance - too bad there was no scoring for competition. Powerful brass and percussion complemented by some amazing work by the color guard - and this coming from a baritone player!

This may sound weird but the show overall is almost.. TOO tight. Like... even with dynamic contrast there’s something... constrictive about the performance.
