Probably the most important thing about a mermaid doll is a) articulation (particularly of the tail), b) believability (as in, the tail looks like a tail and not a mermaid skirt), and c) ability to play with it in the bathtub. If a mermaid doll can't at least do two of those, then it fails as a mermaid doll. I had the 2003 Barbie Fairytopia Magical Mermaid dolls growing up, and, aside from the silicone(?) ripping at the knee joints, they held up really well.
I had all three of those Fairytopia mermaids and I LOVED them. Had them with every bathtime and they held up rather well, considering. The silicone for me started ripping at the hips more than the knees at the end.
Growing up I was a really big fan of mermaids( I used to watch Aquamarine like all the time )but I never got a mermaid doll and it's not like my parents couldn't afford it. but they would see me run up to a mermaid doll look at it and be disappointed when I saw no articulation in the tail.
Still haven't finished the video, but what I liked about spinmaster's mermaid dolls was that the tails were fabric and removable! These days the mermaid parts are plastic, which is a big bummer usually, but the mermaid high line had them have both water and land forms which was neat! Reminded me of this older barbie mermaid line I had!
Me too, I never owned one as I don't buy dolls anymore but I genuinely liked the vibes and designs as they reminded me a lot of Blythe and the Lalaloopsy mermaid dolls they did. I would rather have it that I can interchange between Mermaid and human then just a tail unless it was strictly made for water play. Mermaze reminds me of the Great Scarrier Reef dolls from Monster High kind of with the tails at least.
Interestingly I bought one of the mermaidz dolls for the specific purpose of tearing it apart and rebuilding it. I remember being quite torn about which one to buy at target because I liked that the mermaid high tails were removable and the mermaidz had better articulation.
The only mermaze doll i own is Kishiko, since her intricate bubble braids and iridescent jacket were so pretty. But also because shes one of the only ones who's tail could pass as an actual fish tail. I wasn't really a fan of the tails looking like fabric or pants, or the fact that apparently their tails and color schemes can totally change between lines? Personally i would have liked it more if each character's tail was the same every time so you could always recognize them
Funny thing when I use to work at a toy store I saw those Mermaid dolls a lot while working there at the time. Even wondering to myself, I wonder if Negative Legend will ever do a video on them. Which well now has happen so thats pretty neat.
I actually think Winter Waves (the second line) upped the quality so so much. A stand, nicer clothes, the snow globe tails are legit cool and make the hard plastic tail more “worth the price” in my opinion.
‼️YES! I definitely want the mermaid high series video!! Also I am a mermaid collector (not just dolls all mermaid merchandise including life-size fins, sculptures, books, the original Disney Little mermaid stuff, etc) and mermaid dolls specifically are some of my favorite things to collect BUT there aren't a lot of them. There just isn't a wide variety of mermaid dolls to choose from so I'm just happy to take what I can get LOL I wish the shows would be less about fashion and generic kids lessons and they really would have taken advantage of the fact that this is a mermaid series and really played into the one unique thing about the show.
Your comment makes me think they would have been better off making a fantasy themed movie based off these dolls THEN a TV show So they could really explore that color and light plot that made no sense, if the show wants lore they should really not shy away from it in my opinion and they should just full force should have gone for it instead of making a lukewarm kids cartoon underwater
@@abigailmaturana741 unfortunately no I don't it never even occured to me to make an account to share my collection! But that's a great idea! @@ViktorErikFade I completely agree! I would have rather had a higher quality movie then a low quality generic series, they could have done what Monster High did and make like one movie for every new season of dolls! I'm definitely disappointed with how the show turned out. I've never seen mermaid high tho so hopefully that one is better!
I worked at the studio that made the Mermaze show (Pixel Zoo), it took me so long to figure out that "Mermaze" wasn't about mermaids in a maze. My friend that worked on the title sequence had to tell me...
Anyone else unable to stop looking at the tv screen? I know it's a reflection of...something, but the way it comes across is a living nightmare watching Negative through a window the entire filming process
I remember the 'Unicorn' and 'Mermaid' puddings base of 'Dreams and fantasy kisses' (I'm not kidding, that's how they advertised it on the box' in stores when its just possibly strawberry and food colors
Snackpak pudding has mermaid and unicorn pudding. Both are pink and teal puddings. Mermaid was bubble gum flavored and Unicorn was cotton candy. They bad a dragon one too, red was cherry and green was apple.
@@RaisonLychi That was the brand I couldn't remember the name! And I didn't know there was a dragon one. Also love your profile picture, Cybersix is a underrated show
You should read the Grimmtastic Girls books! They’re like Ever After High, but they really stand out as their own thing and the story’s actually really good! (Not as amazing as EAH, but it would be worth checking out!)
Oh I remember those books tho I only read the sleeping beauty one (mainly because I was unable find the others) but from what I remember it was really good
As some one who collects dolls I bought 2 of these, I got the rocker one and unicorn looking one but ended up getting rid of them because they just didn’t do it for me. The rocker ones hair got caught on her outfit and was a mess and the other just was almost to plain. I do wonder who these are targeted to because it is confusing. But as always, great video! I would love a deep dive into mermaid high!
Do the outfits fit on other dolls to at least be salvageable to say put on a Monster or Ever After High doll or even Barbie? Cause I like a lot of the jackets but dont feel the price point is good to just reuse the clothes or even keep the dolls
@@LocalTorchwoodIntern to be honest I never tried their clothes on other dolls. I have seen on Instagram tho other people use them on rainbow high and monster high so I assume that they will work on other dolls. Hope that helps!
The series would've or might've been better if it was more written as a slice of life instead of saving the city. I think Mermaze is alright, but Mermaid High shouldn't have canceled just because of Mermaze. They both have their own unique qualites and I would've loved to see Mermaid High's other lines that they planned on releasing, but sadly it won't.
for me these dolls are kinda boring AND expensive. Their faces and hair are beautiful, but the fashions are kinda hit or miss. Maybe if they make a doll i really like, i'll get it. But for now, i'll just keep on collecting rh and lol omg.
I love mermaids but $40 for half a quality doll was a bit much. But they did go half off at one point and i can happily pay $20 per doll. The unicorn hair one can stand up on its own with the tail acting as an L shaped stand. The pink ariana grande ones hair is too heavy to stand up with her tail unless you balance it just right and don't touch her ever again.
The new winter line for Mermaze has actual doll stands, not just their tail's. So they listened to their consumers for that one. The stands are gorgeous too.
When those dolls were being released, I really liked them visually and was thinking of getting some, but then I got to touch them in a toy store and they felt so cheap all my warm feeling for this series died. I wish they were better quality cause they look really cool design-wise, with better plastic, some articulation, and maybe more accessories. It's not a bad line, just badly executed.
I seriously love all your doll related content. How you talk about their actual product history as well as the marketing with the shows and such. I also love watching you and your partner going to shop for them. It's always so entertaining. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new g3 monster high dolls! I really hope you do a video about them in the bear future as they're making their way to stores now!
Mermaze Mermaidz may be my least favorite MGA line because I feel like they are very overpriced for what they are. The tails don't even have articulation except for on that one very overpriced doll, Orra, who literally has a MOLDED ON TOP, which feels so wrong to me for an expensive MGA doll. They can't even sit down, and the tails feel more gimmicky than quality. The color change gimmick is also weird, because you need to get the tails wet to use the gimmick, but you cannot get the hair or clothes wet without ruining them. I also own Mari from the Mermaid High line, and I feel like that line was better executed and priced than Mermaze Mermaidz. And this may be a bit random, but Nera (the goth doll from the Winter Waves line) specifically saying the words 'prep' and 'goth' reminded me so much of Ebony Dementia Raven Way from My Immortal, and now I cannot unsee or unhear the similarities between those two characters.
I might have given them more than a glance if the tail wasnt solid, it drives me nuts that theres not, like, at least a joint in the middle, it would be so easy to do!! Id hesitate even if it was a LOT cheaper bc of that
MGA is reusing the bodies of an old doll line called liv dolls. It’s very clear they were trying to jump onto the mermaid bandwagon and beat out Mermaid High. I don’t think it will actually last very long.
Spinmaster (the same company that did mermaid high) actually did liv dolls, not mga! I was thinking these dolls reminded me of moxie teenz, maybe even project mc2 since those two doll lines were mga
You should do a video on Wild Hearts Crew. They were a doll line that came out only at Walmart for a year and then they just dissapeared 😢 I really liked those dolls 😂
I hope you'll cover the Disney dolls and Mermaid High 🤞 Maybe you can buy that Maleficent! Also I kept getting distracted by that Chat Noir t-shirt, I need it so bad
14:22 Oh. My God. Project Mc2 was one of things I loved as a kid but just completely forgot about until it was mentioned here. Idk about anyone else, but that show was so cool with the science stuff they showed. They actually made things look fun and cool instead of the boring math mumbo jumbo science really mainly is. That's something you should cover as well imo and it's said as Project Mc Square. You know like, E=Mc Square. I just don't know how to use exponents on mobile lol
Super late reply, but all you do is hold down the number on your keyboard (on a phone at least) and you'll be able to make the expont like this! E=mc². Hope this helps!
I'm really enjoying the Target and out-of-studio segments with Isabella. Would love to continue seeing more of it. I love the interactions between her and Negative.
They should of made the tail like how monster high did Serena von boo where the bottom of the tail opens up and she can stand on her own but you can also close the tail if you want
Mermaize solos Mermaid High so hard to the point where it's almost unfair. Deserved, but unfair. Also, I actually had some cool ideas for redesigning the characters from W.i.t.c.h and when I got to Taranee, I made her ball thing into a flipping see-through crystal flail. When I saw that girl's purse, it instantly remembered me of that.🔮 Other than that, I don't think the appeal is directly based around the show. I think it all has to do with how stylish the dolls are. Same goes for Rainbow High and definitely LOL Surprise.
I would love to see more about the Disney dolls! Also more history stuff on dolls in general could be fun. I never cared for dolls much, but listening to you talk about it has been interesting.
Recently I have been drawing and using customization apps to make myself a merperson because I'm genderfluid and if you have a tail, you have no dysphoria down there because everyone has a tail. Fantasy creatures' powers also aren't set in stone, so who says that merpeople can't change their chest sizes?? Plus, hair lengths aren't gendered- Basically, there are no limits to my self-expression while I'm still too young to come out safely
Definitely a video on Mermaid High cuz ever since Monster High debuted in 2010 other companies tried to cash in on the themed high school dolls with their own fashion doll franchise (not sure if Mermaid High was among them )
Fun fact, the tilt thing with the head is an actual condition called torticollis; it's a condition most common in babies and it is caused by uneven tightening of the neck mussels. This girl needs physical therapy.
Maybe some etsy seller that likes the dolls but wish they did them more justice is selling handmade stands and outfits you can get for them. I've been hearing in other doll videos that's what a lot of doll collectors do for the ones that the official outfit packages are to expensive or to plain
The second wave of dolls come with a doll stand and the first wave actually balance on their tail when you make it flat. I personally really like the dolls and I’m working on completing wave 2 as I’ve already completed the first wave. I will say the price is a bit steep but MGA is known for absurd pricing and I don’t mind paying 30 buck occasionally for a nice quality doll. I don’t collet rainbow high anymore because 1) the lack of hair diversity upsets me and 2) the creator doxxed a child for buying unreleased doll parts on aliexpress
Negative isn’t going to see or know who I am but I’d like to thank them for being there when I was in a really dark time in my life, and made me smile, and helped me get out of that mind space .
I love that the t-shirt with the girl on it look to me like she just stareing at his necklace. The doll is cute but I was having fun watching the eyes looking up at a hanging necklace on the characters forehead.
I think the mermaze dolls are super pretty! They still haven't come to where i live and if they're not too expensive i'm looking forward to maybe getting one or two!
I think you are supposed to stand them up on their tails when bent flat, also I think shellnels hair bow might be a separate bit of hair not connected to the rest of her hair, but idk
i’d seen both mermaze and mermaid high in stores and thought they were both really cute (despite one being obvious competition for the other) and planned on buying one eventually. i didn’t know ppl were actually mad about them 😭
I'm not a fan of this line aesthetic (or MGA dolls aesthetic in general tbh) and the way their plastic tails look more like mermaid costumes than actual tails kind of bother me, especially the sporty girl. Honestly i think i prefer a more "beastly" look when it come to mermaids.
I feel really bad for these dolls Like they're genuinely really pretty and amazaingly diverse and have an amazing aesthetic that isn't afraid to portray unconventional fashion trends like alternative details (like even MH is very afrait to do so with this new Gen). And as bad as the writting and animation are in the webseries, the design and ambient is amazing and it really brings out a breath of fresh air from always seeing bedroom #17 Its really sad and dissappointing that this level of cuality didn't showed up in the actual product
If the doll has floppy head syndrome you can warm the head with boiling water (put head in plastic bag to protect it) pull off the head as gently as possible then put a band around the neck peg.
It takes about 3 years to get a toy out on the shelves. Maybe a year if they really rush through it (see Baby Yoda). So, could be corporate espionage instead.
Funny, I watched some of your videos this morning before this one came out! XD As a fan of Mermaid High webseries, I wasn't convincted about Mermaze Mermaidz. I tried to give a chance to the Mermaze Mermaidz series but it is... ABYSSAL!!! I got bored with the first webisode, and same with the rest of the webisodes too. For the dolls, I like a bit the designs of the main line. Harmonique and Riviera are actually my favorites! =) But seriously, the whole concept of Mermaze Mermaidz makes NO SENSE to me: A high fashion doll line with a color change tail - so, for the purpose of playing in the water - BUT with clothes and long hair that can be easily be ruined by water?! (The hair quality doesn't seems good so I can imagine the disaster after playing with the doll in water!) So weird. And for who Mermaze Mermaidz is aimed? To young children? To doll collectors? This is illogical. PS: If you make a video about Mermaid High I hope you'll talk about the concept arts of the unreleased doll lines too. ^^
Back in 2018, I worked at a Justice. You know, the tween brand for girls. All year, it was like over half the store was dedicated to mermaids and unicorns. I can’t look at either of them the same way anymore.
Would love to hear you talk about Mermaid High! That's one heck of a train ride. Yeah, Mermaze Mermaids are funky, I own exactly one of them, Kishiko, because she's my fave in the show. This is a weird thing, I do not like the Rainbow High web series, it's just not that great of a plot and the writing could be better. I do like the dolls, but with the price increasing and them coming with less stuff/wave two of Shadow High having some confusing designs, I'm just, kind of falling off of that band wagon. But with Mermaze, I like the web series a lot, but I don't love the dolls. Like yeah, the series could have better writing, but I see it the way you put it in your Pony Life video, this is junk food, something you turn your brain off for and just enjoy for the sheer absurdity of it. At the very least, I'm glad that it has some morals and isn't focused on drama 24/7, especially given the series does seem aimed at younger viewers, like thank you, that's refreshing! So done with the drama plotlines in other series. The lack of articulation doesn't do it for me, and the faces are just, so pouty and tired. Like, in the show they're always smiling and have such a range of expressions, but the dolls are so flat, why?! They have all these cute details but the expression doesn't match. I was blown away but Kishiko's freckles and stars when I saw her up close. Also really don't love the price point, it's not a good deal. I'm with you, the doll community is so confused by who this series is aimed at, it's funky and so mixed. Apparently series 2, all the Winterra characters? Yeah they come with adjustable stands, but not series 1, which is a bummer. I feel like this series won't last and improve, and it's kind of a shame. I'm tired of MGA dominating the doll market, but this has potential as an idea if you tweak the execution. At the very least, PLEASE give us better articulation, it is ridiculous that these dolls can't sit in a classic mermaid pose.
What you said about game master was the opposite for me. I’m from Canada so we had eb games. Across the street there was a retro game store but also an eb games right upstairs. You could go to either or both. Years later the the eb games closed and the retro store moved down the street to a bigger store… it’s still open today!
My Sam's club had a huge palette with Shadow High series 1 on side and Mermaze first series on the other, and Shadow High is about 3/4 sold out while there was like 3 missing from the whole stack. Yeah they could've restocked the palette (which I doubt) because I go every week and it's been the same. For being from the same company it sure looks like series 1 of Mermaze flopped in comparison. I'm going to keep my eye out though because if they drop to like $12 i'll be buying a few.
Part of me is wondering if the reason for the increase in mermaid theme things. Might have to do with the little mermaid remake that Disney is making so mermaids is what on peoples minds.
Curious if you're aware of or would do a video on the Ruby Gloom clothing line and tv show? Don't think there was ever a doll line but I had a Ruby gloom handbag that I used exclusively from ages 10 to 23. Big "little girl's first goth" vibes
I love mermaids so much and think these designs are really pretty and unique (you don't like... ever see this kind of aesthetic with mermaids) but I'm going nuts at how their hair just like. Doesn't move in the animation. It's like they're not even underwater, it's driving me BANANAS side note: my least favorite thing people do with mermaids is give them KNEES? i hate that so much. i just needed to put that out there too, that's all
I actually like the dolls and they are very pretty (would love to buy one) but they are underutilizing and misusing the mermaid part of it all. MGA decided to make normal girls that also HAPPEN to be mermaids, not ABOUT being mermaids. They could have taken the mermaid thing out, and it remains relatively unchanged.
Unrelated to mermaids, I really love seeing you out and about with your partner, and how comfortable you have gotten with your style. Idk Neg I just love to see you thrive
I feel like Mermaid High can be sniped and taken by MGA since they have Rainbow High and can add Mermaid High to the RH Multiverse/Universe and it can actually properly be added because it looks like the design in the picture shown of the doll in the very elaborate tail can fit in with Rainbow High's multiple outfit thing (the tail can either be taken off to put on a different style skirt or pants with shoes or be a tail that transforms into a skirt of some sort with shoes along with the top part of the outfit). I forgot what spin master was actually good at...whatever demographic toy they were good at they should just stick to that and not leave their lane ever again.
I rarely buy dolls, I mostly spend on small cheaper figurines and stuff, but today I caved and bought Rivera bc she was on sale at a local store. Yeah there are some obvious flaws, but I love her design so much, and I figured out the ways to deal with them QvQ I cut off the strands sticking out of the clothes, it improved the look significantly. The jacket's fabric was too rigid for her arm poses to hold shape if bent at the elbows, but I used pins to make her wear the jacket on her shoulders, so now she can hold her guitar! And the lack of a stand I compensated for the same way I did with my Ariel doll: suspended her by the armpits on a piece of cord, now she's floating above my bed. When life gives you lemons and all that 😅 I'm seriously considering buying a gf for her
I recall when the last mermaid fever started but in the early 20s it's started with H2O or at least where I come from and then Barbie now I guess it's the next live action mermaid movie
Basically Mermaze Mermaid is not my favorite doll line (I never like them or watch their animated series) Honestly they seem pretty but I prefer Mermaid High because the dolls are pretty cute and I love my gurl Searra though :)
Love your video deep dives on these doll lines! If you're ever interested I'd love to see you do a video on the lalaloopsy doll line. They've more recently come back and they're pretty underrated.
Was I the only one screaming at my phone that their tails serve as the doll stand and that the one they got has a tail that can be split at the base so she can stand on her own?
I would love if you made another video on this. If it's not too much trouble, definitely go for watching the rest of the animated show. I loved your review.
yeah, the store called game on in my city I think closed down, I know it moved at first but I think it shut its doors, it was a family owned place but damn it was pretty sad.
I need to know, did anyone else's doll shed? Because the one and only Mermaze doll I have shed so much hair. I was so disappointed because honestly for the price tag I at least expected her hair to not fall out.
Idk if somebody already pointed it out but you're supposed to use their tail to stand them up. That's why they don't have doll stands, and yes, using the tail joint. It works but looks kind of odd in my opinion. And they're just too pricey for what you get. And I never see them on sale either.
its actually sad how they didnt have any creative liberty, they could have done a lots of interesting things, like idk marmaid related clothes, like shells and flowers, or even trash becasue of polution
between the price, the inset eyes, the amazingly detailed clothes, and the utter dearth of play functionality, the only CONCEIVABLE target market for these dolls is adult collectors- and yet they somehow don't come with stands. this whole line is completely incomprehensible to me
I own both dolls 5 off the MH and all of the MM and I like both for different reasons. I think MM are so beautiful 😻. Winter wave upgraded so good! And well MH is a little bit cheaper the fact they can go mermaids to human was pretty cool.
As a mermaid lover I feel like the thing both mermaid high and mermaiz do that bugs me is this lack of the fantastical. Are the outfits and styles cool? Sure but none of it makes me think mermaid. It all feels surface level in terms of theming. I mean by all means go for style and cool outfits but if that's the case make it displayable and all out it in quality. On the other end... Its a mermaid doll. They are meant to get wet because small kids want to take their mermaid dolls into the bath or pool and go on adventures. These toys don't feel like they were ever meant to be enjoyed. They feel like they were meant to consume mermaid high out of existence which makes me sad. I love mermaids and i keep waiting for a new amazing mermaid doll to come out but these aint it
If they would have had the same concept like mermaid high (material tails, legs) I probably would have liked them better. I didn’t like the mermaid high screenings and I don’t really like mermaze’s either, but with the quality and stylization mermaze has, they would have been so much better.

Also I am a mermaid collector (not just dolls all mermaid merchandise including life-size fins, sculptures, books, the original Disney Little mermaid stuff, etc) and mermaid dolls specifically are some of my favorite things to collect BUT there aren't a lot of them. There just isn't a wide variety of mermaid dolls to choose from so I'm just happy to take what I can get LOL I wish the shows would be less about fashion and generic kids lessons and they really would have taken advantage of the fact that this is a mermaid series and really played into the one unique thing about the show.
oh thats so cool! i hope you dont mind my asking, but do you have an insta where you post photos of your finds?
Your comment makes me think they would have been better off making a fantasy themed movie based off these dolls THEN a TV show
So they could really explore that color and light plot that made no sense, if the show wants lore they should really not shy away from it in my opinion and they should just full force should have gone for it instead of making a lukewarm kids cartoon underwater
@@abigailmaturana741 unfortunately no I don't it never even occured to me to make an account to share my collection! But that's a great idea! I will definitely consider it because I love showing off and talking about my collection. I've never even had a facebook. And I know Facebook owns Instagram now and that makes me a little nervous since I hear they have a lot of privacy issues. But maybe I can share them on Reddit or something? I will let you know if I do end up making one!
@@WhitneyDahlin that’d be great! thanks!
I worked at the studio that made the Mermaze show (Pixel Zoo), it took me so long to figure out that "Mermaze" wasn't about mermaids in a maze. My friend that worked on the title sequence had to tell me...
That’s so funny lol What was your position at the studio?
Oh I remember those books tho I only read the sleeping beauty one (mainly because I was unable find the others) but from what I remember it was really good
I remember those books too!
As an adult I saw these in store and was mesmerized. Very pretty doll, so I would imagine a little kid would see glitter mermaids and just go feral.
The new winter line for Mermaze has actual doll stands, not just their tail's. So they listened to their consumers for that one. The stands are gorgeous too.
If they can change their tails like pants then what is underneath there? Is it just a fused mass of human flesh and bones? I'm scared
Glad I'm not the only one who had the same unsettling thought lol
Oh god falling in love w their styles makes me want to create their fits sm
Omg lol, so true about the "prep" and "goth" line. That's middle school "not like other girls" level writing.
Mermaid High's prototype fashion looked soooo good
I might have given them more than a glance if the tail wasnt solid, it drives me nuts that theres not, like, at least a joint in the middle, it would be so easy to do!! Id hesitate even if it was a LOT cheaper bc of that
MGA is reusing the bodies of an old doll line called liv dolls. It’s very clear they were trying to jump onto the mermaid bandwagon and beat out Mermaid High. I don’t think it will actually last very long.
I was thinking the faces felt very “Liv” as well!
Spinmaster (the same company that did mermaid high) actually did liv dolls, not mga! I was thinking these dolls reminded me of moxie teenz, maybe even project mc2 since those two doll lines were mga
youve made me into a huge rianbow high fan and every time i pass the toy aisles i drool over the dolls, theyre so pretty and i wanna buy jade so bad
You should do a video on Wild Hearts Crew. They were a doll line that came out only at Walmart for a year and then they just dissapeared 😢 I really liked those dolls 😂
Never heard of them and just looked them up. They're so cute, they're like a rebooted Gem and the Holograms.
I hope you'll cover the Disney dolls and Mermaid High 🤞 Maybe you can buy that Maleficent!
Also I kept getting distracted by that Chat Noir t-shirt, I need it so bad
That effing owl ball scared me so bad for the first 3 minutes of the video, I thought it was a ghost-
14:22
Oh.
Am I still in the early squad if I watched this on Patreon last week? XD And yes, I do watch all the videos again once they come out officially :p
You're in the extra early squad
Mermaize solos Mermaid High so hard to the point where it's almost unfair. Deserved, but unfair. Also, I actually had some cool ideas for redesigning the characters from W.i.t.c.h and when I got to Taranee, I made her ball thing into a flipping see-through crystal flail. When I saw that girl's purse, it instantly remembered me of that.🔮
Other than that, I don't think the appeal is directly based around the show. I think it all has to do with how stylish the dolls are. Same goes for Rainbow High and definitely LOL Surprise.
w.i.t.c.h you say ? 👀👀👀
@@Linnzy Yeah. Dude literally did a vid on it a while back.
The menacing owl in the background
I would love to see more about the Disney dolls! Also more history stuff on dolls in general could be fun. I never cared for dolls much, but listening to you talk about it has been interesting.
Recently I have been drawing and using customization apps to make myself a merperson because I'm genderfluid and if you have a tail, you have no dysphoria down there because everyone has a tail. Fantasy creatures' powers also aren't set in stone, so who says that merpeople can't change their chest sizes?? Plus, hair lengths aren't gendered-
Basically, there are no limits to my self-expression while I'm still too young to come out safely
The Chat Noir shirt though that was the first thing I saw, I said “Chat”
I love that the t-shirt with the girl on it look to me like she just stareing at his necklace. The doll is cute but I was having fun watching the eyes looking up at a hanging necklace on the characters forehead.
I think the mermaze dolls are super pretty! They still haven't come to where i live and if they're not too expensive i'm looking forward to maybe getting one or two!
You should do a part 2 or whole what happened to this series as well as mermaid high. That would be cool.
I think you are supposed to stand them up on their tails when bent flat, also I think shellnels hair bow might be a separate bit of hair not connected to the rest of her hair, but idk
I actually really like that animation aesthetic 💗
i’d seen both mermaze and mermaid high in stores and thought they were both really cute (despite one being obvious competition for the other) and planned on buying one eventually. i didn’t know ppl were actually mad about them 😭
I'm not a fan of this line aesthetic (or MGA dolls aesthetic in general tbh) and the way their plastic tails look more like mermaid costumes than actual tails kind of bother me, especially the sporty girl. Honestly i think i prefer a more "beastly" look when it come to mermaids.
I love your doll line reviews they are so thorough and make me want to care more every time
I feel really bad for these dolls
Like they're genuinely really pretty and amazaingly diverse and have an amazing aesthetic that isn't afraid to portray unconventional fashion trends like alternative details (like even MH is very afrait to do so with this new Gen). And as bad as the writting and animation are in the webseries, the design and ambient is amazing and it really brings out a breath of fresh air from always seeing bedroom #17
Its really sad and dissappointing that this level of cuality didn't showed up in the actual product
If the doll has floppy head syndrome you can warm the head with boiling water (put head in plastic bag to protect it) pull off the head as gently as possible then put a band around the neck peg.
can you do a doll collection tour at some point? it’d be cool to see everything you have together im honestly a sucker for fashion doll collections :)
It takes about 3 years to get a toy out on the shelves. Maybe a year if they really rush through it (see Baby Yoda). So, could be corporate espionage instead.
Funny, I watched some of your videos this morning before this one came out! XD
As a fan of Mermaid High webseries, I wasn't convincted about Mermaze Mermaidz.
But seriously, the whole concept of Mermaze Mermaidz makes NO SENSE to me: A high fashion doll line with a color change tail - so, for the purpose of playing in the water - BUT with clothes and long hair that can be easily be ruined by water?!
Everytime you say mermaze I hear the damn song from the ad in my head 😩 I cant skip an ad faster! But the animation of the show makes me want one 😍
Curious if you're aware of or would do a video on the Ruby Gloom clothing line and tv show? Don't think there was ever a doll line but I had a Ruby gloom handbag that I used exclusively from ages 10 to 23. Big "little girl's first goth" vibes
As someone who worked at Spin... what you said at 5:30 is SO TRUE, the designers are so talented but their hands are tied.
I love mermaids so much and think these designs are really pretty and unique (you don't like... ever see this kind of aesthetic with mermaids) but I'm going nuts at how their hair just like. Doesn't move in the animation. It's like they're not even underwater, it's driving me BANANAS
side note: my least favorite thing people do with mermaids is give them KNEES? i hate that so much. i just needed to put that out there too, that's all
I actually like the dolls and they are very pretty (would love to buy one) but they are underutilizing and misusing the mermaid part of it all. MGA decided to make normal girls that also HAPPEN to be mermaids, not ABOUT being mermaids. They could have taken the mermaid thing out, and it remains relatively unchanged.
I wish they had a legs version that would keep their curves, they'd be great for customizing if so.
Yeah there are some obvious flaws, but I love her design so much, and I figured out the ways to deal with them QvQ
I cut off the strands sticking out of the clothes, it improved the look significantly. When life gives you lemons and all that 😅
I'm seriously considering buying a gf for her
I recall when the last mermaid fever started but in the early 20s it's started with H2O or at least where I come from and then Barbie now I guess it's the next live action mermaid movie
I'm kinda living for the sporty mermaid design tho 👀
Basically Mermaze Mermaid is not my favorite doll line (I never like them or watch their animated series)
Honestly they seem pretty but I prefer Mermaid High because the dolls are pretty cute and I love my gurl Searra though :)
Love your video deep dives on these doll lines! If you're ever interested I'd love to see you do a video on the lalaloopsy doll line. They've more recently come back and they're pretty underrated.
i loved those dolls as a kid 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Was I the only one screaming at my phone that their tails serve as the doll stand and that the one they got has a tail that can be split at the base so she can stand on her own?
My friends adopted a kitten that looks JUST like the first one yall showed. So cute! Theirs is the chillest bby 😘
I would love to see a Mermaid High video some day! Also, please do a full review when the rest of S1 of Mermaze comes out?
Glad I checked your channel, I didn't a notification. I'm always excited when you post.
I would love if you made another video on this. If it's not too much trouble, definitely go for watching the rest of the animated show. I loved your review.
yeah, the store called game on in my city I think closed down, I know it moved at first but I think it shut its doors, it was a family owned place but damn it was pretty sad.
I think i saw these dolls at target the otherday i was like huh thats neat! Great video!
I actually do want to know how they feel about Mermaid High, and also about the spinoff of Rainbow High: Shadow High.
FINALLY
So many youtubers do the calling on specific name thing and I finally hear mine
I would love to see you dive into any dolls, even Disney dolls, by the way! I love this video so much!
I have a MIGHTY NEED for one of those decks they look absolutely stunning
OMG GARAGE BAND🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I was introduced in like 8th grade for Computer 101, so it’s been liiiiiike.......6-7 years????????
I’M SO OLD!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
As a mermaid lover I feel like the thing both mermaid high and mermaiz do that bugs me is this lack of the fantastical.
Ooh that is an awesome Maleficent doll
I give this joke a five out of 10. Ps another reason why Matt Walsh is freaking out I truly hate that man he makes me feel like Samuel Jackson in Jurassic Park before he got his arm and his face scratched buy a velociraptor and became the head of Shield.
I love the reflection of the owl plush. You should show us em
0:21 you are speaking the truth 👏😂
