You don't go blind from looking at an exploding nuclear bomb, numbskull. You get blinded. Do you understand the difference? The latter means you won't be able to see, the former means you lose your vision - permanently. The radiation also doesn't spread that far.
Why would your father admonish you for speeding along natural selection? Tenpenny told his advisor to tell them to leave, that the giant nuke was an eyesore, and that if they evacuated with all their stuff, they'd survive, but they said no.
Burke didnt actualy tell them he was told to but burke didnt thats the interesting dynamic tempeny is sort of evil but has leniency while burk ignores tempenys leniency and doesnt give a shit
Manya Varges in Megaton explains that the original town residents needed the help from the Children of Atom who were just getting started as a cult. Naturally, the Children wanted the town built around the bomb and weren't going to help otherwise. It's some easily missed dialogue, but it is explained.
Ok but here the scary thing, imagine this, your a wastelander who has been living your entire life not really knowing what got humanity to that point or what a nuke going off looks like, and then while walking out of Washington you see a sudden bright light on the horizon and see a mushroom cloud go into the sky. You probably not move due to the shock of every happening
Imagine the residents of shelter 101 being scared and wondering "why our doctor is gone", "why a good companion left", and then an earthquake began and levels of radiation that were never felt again 200 years ago, really the scariest thing
Realistically there would not be a single window left in the tower after an explosion like that. Also, most likely everyone who looked straight at it would go blind immediately. After a couple of days the tower (and the surrounding area) are going to be covered in radioactive dust, causing radiation levels to skyrocket and many people to get mutations/cancer. In short, yeah they would be fucked completely, which IMO adds to the insanity and irresponsibility of this choice.
God, I forgot Liam Neeson was in this game. Imagine if some game studio tried to do the equivalent thing today, who would they cast? I want Jared Harris.
It really shows how little Bethesda understood the emotional ramifications of everything about Fallout as a setting if nuking a town and engulfing it's entire population in radioactive hellfire can only muster a "Son, I'm so disappointed in you" from your father, the pivotal character of the entire story.
Its real. Even in this world and time people dont care much about someone else death. There was case in US where father helped son to burry his victim.

Hard to believe a man so set on saving the lives in the wasteland can only say how disappointed he is that his only child intentionally killed a bunch of innocent people... i never understood why this is the only random quest he comments on...
I haven’t blown up megaton in so long, does the game explain why people thought it was a good idea to live next to a nuke? Surely they all expected to die evantually
I mean most people probably assumed it was deactive or a dud. Granted it is also a hell of a final resort. Raiders try to swarm the town while some crazy bastard holds a grenade by a nuke and tells them they move and everything fucking dies. Are they gonna think this crazy person with a bomb ready to blow a nuke is bluffing? Maybe but that is a risk not worth taking
The Crater the bomb left offered a natural shelter for survivors from the immediate post war Environmental hazards, such as radiation sandstorms and such. There was also a fresh water supply from pipes in the crater. So people scavenged airplanes from the nearby airport and built their city walls around the crater. The bomb’s detonator was faulty, so in all likelihood it could have remained for another several hundred years, maybe even indefinitely, we’re it not from Burke’s interference.
It's so weird how morality changed between the Fallout games. Fallout 3: Comic book morality Fallout New Vegas: Morality is still objective (there's a karma system and the omnipotent narrator passes moral judgement on you), but nuance is added for spice. Fallout 4: Morality is subjective, totally up to the player. Not complain, it's just interesting.
That's really not true at all. The morality remains the same throughout all three games, and it's based on our modern world's universal sense of morality. Killing the racist residents of Tenpenny Tower for being racist towards ghouls is morally good. Nuking Megaton is morally bad. BoS members taking food, technology & supplies from settlements is morally bad. Railroad agents rescuing synths is morally good. The only reason NV doesn't focus as much on its Karma system is due to the Reputation system. Instead you're more likely (though not always) to find NV moral choices in side quests, not faction quests.

You’re right though. It’s bad world building on Bethesda’s part. They have little protection, yet the slavers haven’t attacked them yet, despite being possibly the biggest target. On top of that, they have no reason to be rich or snobby. They haven’t built wealth off of anything.
True but fatmen and mini nukes are extremely rare. Wasting one on tenpenny just wouldn't be worth it most of the time.
Thankfully we're the lone wanderer and we have the protag powers so we just find them all over
Give your bodies to Atom my friends, release yourself to his power, feel his Glow, and be divided 🙏
The funniest thing is Moira, being 50m from the bomb but somehow she survives... XD
She literally explains it in this video. "She wasn't in town at the time"
It was ironic numbnuts
tbh building ur town around a nuke is just asking for it
there should have been a bigger consequence than a massive karma hit
going there you should see the impact, people suffering and the catastrophic effect of the detonation
there should have been a cinematic of people melting from heat, or maybe ghostly wailings when passing nearby, etc
No thats preqchy as fuck
Gay idea, Fallout is already the catastrophic effect of a nuclear-caused war.
Yknow suddenly I don't feel so inclined to help roy anymore
You realise if u do his peacful option days later wvery none ghoul ends up dead in the basment he literaly kills everyone even agter gegying in peacfuly

Lone wanderer blows up a town. Dad just gets disappointed
Oh you know when pip boy guy had devil horns and goatie, you know you did something very bad
Honestly, first time playing, your dad's reaction in game saying how he's disappointed bugged me more than my irl father being disappointed lmao
Wow. Nice to see people are still making Fallout 3 content. Good video.
Jericho has three arms confirmed
The third arm is his bepis
I just realized Mr Burke has the same voice actor as the Imperial Guards in Oblivion
And Lucien Lachance
When I was young I did this and thought the game was over so I stopped playing
Behold! He is coming from the clou… (dead)
Dad is like "yo that shit balls but eeeeeh you're still fam"
Or in whatever capacity certain subcultures would express this.
Moira was such a sweet character. She was my favorite NPC to interact with and I never got tired of the VA haha Wish she’d returned in 4 as a DLC character. Maybe she could return as the head of a big trading empire of some kind in the next game, if they make one.
I remember doing this back in the day. Loved this game.
Fallout characters are built different, they look directly at a exploding nuclear bomb and don’t go blind or die from radiation poisoning
It’s in muh genesss! *patch of skin falls off
You don't go blind from looking at an exploding nuclear bomb, numbskull. You get blinded.
Do you understand the difference? The latter means you won't be able to see, the former means you lose your vision - permanently. The radiation also doesn't spread that far.
@michasmarzewski3670 based
I never realized that Mr. Burke was trying to talk to me at the bar. His audio is so badly mixed I can't hear him.
How to get Roy Philips and Burke lives under the Temp Tower ??
Never realized that was Liam Neeson til now
Why would your father admonish you for speeding along natural selection? Tenpenny told his advisor to tell them to leave, that the giant nuke was an eyesore, and that if they evacuated with all their stuff, they'd survive, but they said no.
Burke didnt actualy tell them he was told to but burke didnt thats the interesting dynamic tempeny is sort of evil but has leniency while burk ignores tempenys leniency and doesnt give a shit
You cant speed up nor slow down natural selection. Thats the human hubris.
Ngl, didn't expect Roy Phillips to be ok with that, thought he would just kill Burke for being a smoothskin. XD
I think Roy is genuinely afraid of him, but at the same time, blowing up Megaton = more dead smoothskins, so he doesn't really care.
Funnily enough, I blew up Megaton and then turned around to help Roy kill everyone in the tower just for the hell of it.
4:07 oh god… she lives
I mean, Tenpenny was not wrong. Who tf builds a town around a dud nuke
Manya Varges in Megaton explains that the original town residents needed the help from the Children of Atom who were just getting started as a cult. Naturally, the Children wanted the town built around the bomb and weren't going to help otherwise. It's some easily missed dialogue, but it is explained.
I remember a Scavenger mentioned the explosion too
Ok but here the scary thing, imagine this, your a wastelander who has been living your entire life not really knowing what got humanity to that point or what a nuke going off looks like, and then while walking out of Washington you see a sudden bright light on the horizon and see a mushroom cloud go into the sky. You probably not move due to the shock of every happening
Imagine the residents of shelter 101 being scared and wondering "why our doctor is gone", "why a good companion left", and then an earthquake began and levels of radiation that were never felt again 200 years ago, really the scariest thing
I can't do it, even if building next to an atom bomb was stupid they don't deserve anhilation
You can tell this is the same engine as Oblivion! The facial expressions are the same!
welp, i know who's gonna be *my* sidekick when i cross the Mojave. Moira Brown.
I never bothered to wonder about how close they are to that bomb. Would the tower suffer any effects?
realistically, most likely. But in Fallout 3's ridiculous world? probably not.
They would all be blind
God, I forgot Liam Neeson was in this game. Imagine if some game studio tried to do the equivalent thing today, who would they cast? I want Jared Harris.
It really shows how little Bethesda understood the emotional ramifications of everything about Fallout as a setting if nuking a town and engulfing it's entire population in radioactive hellfire can only muster a "Son, I'm so disappointed in you" from your father, the pivotal character of the entire story.
Its real. Even in this world and time people dont care much about someone else death. There was case in US where father helped son to burry his victim.
@@Komotau4691 Don't get me wrong, I do get where you're coming from, but we're talking about a character who, at every turn, wants you to avoid hostility and violence as much as possible if it's unnecessary. Someone who has turned people away because of their hateful nature. So him scalding you with "ummm blowing up that entire town full of people I liked who helped me? I'm disappointed bro" was fucking terrible.
It undervalues every moral value he claims to have as a character.
@@lainamitclaire Thats because he love his son and death is something normal in Wasteland so he just say that line. He is also scientists and deeply focus on his Project Purity so what his son did to some city is second thing in his life :D
@@Komotau4691 I don't think you're old enough to play a game like Fallout 3.
@@lainamitclaire I think you are not wise to understand its a just game.
Mr. Burke is basicalle Lucien Lachance in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Saved my game then chose to blow up megaton… my 13 year old self couldn’t live with my horrible decision so I went back to my save point and righted my wrongs. I was totally immersed in this world, I’m 28 and don’t even play video games anymore but I’ll never forget just how special this game was to me.
Man the punishment of blowing it up is the father being disappointed of his child
"Yeah boo hoo Megaton's gone"
Dude you watched me press the button otherwise you'd be dead!
I killed Mr. Burke when I first saw him in a bar in Megaton to save the town. I ended up having bad karma from it lol.
Same, but I've no regrets. If anything, I regret helping Roy
He was unlikable from the start
5:22 good karma character
„You‘ve lost Karma“ 🙈😂😂
It's so weird how morality changed between the Fallout games.
Fallout 3: Comic book morality
Fallout New Vegas: Morality is still objective (there's a karma system and the omnipotent narrator passes moral judgement on you), but nuance is added for spice.
@michasmarzewski3670 That consequences have no real impact on gameplay lmao You just make some enemies.
@michasmarzewski3670a new Vegas fan never passes up the opportunity to insist it’s gods gift to this earth.

I genuinely like Allistair, he's such a likeable ol cooter
Unfortunately for him, he got that unique pimp suit that I want. He dies in 100% of my playthroughs
I got to that point. But then I killed the two guys and went back to megaton to disarm the charge. But of course Bethesda did not forsee this.
When I was younger I was so scared by Moira brown when she turned
Why did shitshack megaton explode more violently than the institute
I wish that the developers had shown way more damage then they did. Like knocking down surrounding structures like the rest of the highway.
