    From Labelle FL we have soo sooo many wasps on our property this year since I started vegetable gardening . Last summer was tons of bees in the butternut squash they were soo loud that I would just walk by carefully to count the squash but most of the time I walked away and let them do their thing , got 25 squash from 1 plant. This year it tons of wasps and I’m soo used to it by now I don’t mind them at all I just let them do their thing and I do mine. Haven’t gotten bit once. While my husband is weary of them and gets chased around lol

    Great collab! It was nice seeing both of you together. I'm considering planting some native plants like milkweed.
    I had four firebushes that were in serious need of pruning as they had gone wild. I took your advice Jacqueline and took it down to the base of the plant. We got rid of everything! I have to admit it was a little scary seeing all that bare space. I'm happy to say that only a few weeks later, all the bushes have tons of new growth on them. I think all the birds and butterflies with love it when they start to flower. We did leave one volunteer firebush on the property that was relatively young and not overgrown. Not sure how that got planted where it did. I'm guessing birds. So we still had a place to keep the butterflies and birds happy until the old firebushes are able to attract butterflies and birds again. I do like that pruning the firebushes really opened up the yard and made it look a lot neater and bigger now that the tangled mess of branches are gone.

    So happy you are putting this wonderful information out for others to give the natural way a chance. . I do no pesticide and truly I started any gardening only because of discovering swallowtail cats on my mom's parsley plant. Since then , I was hooked on catapillers...and at fault trying to save as well.
    Now, I trying to grow some veggies with the sole intent to share with nature and harvest if lucky. I enjoy the life it all brings. I've found that planting tobaccos works well as a 'trap' crop for the hawk moths... they seem to choose them first for egg laying (even when planted among tomato and pepper plants) and those plants are robust, especially the broadleaf types.
    Also, ladybugs will *always* find your garden when there's a problem if you don't spray. Patience is part of gardening.

      @@sandrabeck8788 You probably won't find plants, but look for Nicotiana seeds in garden centers, usually among the flowers. Quite a few online sources as well, including the tobaccos used for smoking instead of flowers, but both will bloom and self-seed readily.
      Seeds are tiny... mix w a little sand and scatter, or just pour into hand and blow for less precise sowing.

I hate not understanding how to protect myself and my children from them without the use of nasty chemicals on our own skin (when we get bit we get the VERY big swelling) but I LOVE when the dragonflies come in the evening and hover. • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  Год назад

      Laurel Oak... it will only have a 50 - 70 year lifespan. Southern Live Oak are the longest living at over 200+ years... potentially up to 500 years.

    • @katiecannon8186
      @katiecannon8186 Год назад +1

      It’s said that laurel oaks crow the fastest, but as someone who had planted 5 species of oaks, that’s only marginally true at best. The key to live, laurel and water oaks is *TONS* of water the first year at least. Two years is better. By “tons” I mean putting your hose attachment on very low and deep watering every single day for 15 to 20 minutes the first month to six weeks. And then at least twice a week for the first year or two. Two being better.
      Also, unless you’re old like me and so need instinct largish tree satisfaction, buy the youngest tree you can live with.
      The younger the better.
      The smallest trees I planted are nearly as large as the large trees I planted. Because the small trees weren’t so root bound in their pots.
      Root bound large trees get strangled by their roots that just grow in a circle.
      So, small trees that aren’t root bound in their pots grow the fastest.
      I’m naturalizing another part of my yard next year. I’m only going to plant wips - very, very, small trees. If the roots have begun to circle, I’m going to straighten them out.
      Anyway, my youngest live oaks, which were 1 1/2 inches in diameter are about 9 inches in diameter 6 years later.
      Same with my laurel oaks. There’s just not a huge difference.
      But because most folks are planting live oaks, it’s cool to plant some laurel oaks because they serve a different purpose in nature. Their “early” death is vital to tons of wild life, including owls.
