    DAMN I GOT OLD QUICK. Neil Young was rooted in my heart when I was a young man getting lost. Now old myself, and playing guitar everyday, his legacy comforts and inspires me. Few can combine sensitivity and courage to remain true as well as NEIL. In these hard times in the US, we lack those heroes who perform with untainted originality and the courage, yes, to protest injustice, and disrespect for Nature. Freedom and grace comes those who are dedicated, kind and honest. There is no place left to hide "in the country" (rural land). I say less guns, more guitars. Believe in peace, defend those who are trampled by the oppressors. Racism, class warfare, and corporate wage slavery persists. Epic times to compare to the 60s. Walls to segregate winners and losers? We are we investing in? What are we teaching our children?

      @@Dustwitch Not talking about the song. The man's career I associate with certain values, and our power to rebel against "tyranny" isn't about the guns anymore. It's how you vote and how you spend your money, who you work for, etc. Gun love is delusional for many a disenfranchised person. And I remember my guns, and when I needed them or not. My balls and teeth are still healthy. Maybe my eyesight is weaker from reading too many books.

    During the U.S. Civil war the Union army sent gun boats (ironclads and tinclads) down the Mississippi and its tributaries to eliminate Confederate strongholds and prevent ambushes of its supply boats. These riverboats were armed with cannons and some were light enough to run in relatively shallow water. If you look at pictures of, for example, the USS Fort Hindman, there were numbers on the side on a helm between the funnels. Sometimes the fleet went well beyond attacking the Confederate army, however, and ended up destroying civilian property, food and supplies. This song sounds like a young man defending his family and property against an approaching Union gunboat along one of these rivers.

All the Great Shows, sitting in the Front Row at Blossom Music Center, while Neil and Crazy Horse just Blew Me Away, with this song and Every Other One in his catalog.. I don't feel a day older, but certainly a Hundred Years Wiser.. • @larydixon4824
      @larydixon4824 3 года назад +1

      @Dan Wells, You have managed to capture the whole Aura of that entire period in One word - Surreal.. That tour seemed to come out of Nowhere.. At the end of the Seventies Rock and Roll had started to become a bit sleepy, after a few years of the Singer/Songwriter style of music had taken over the New format of FM radio.. Most people had listened to AM on their car radios until Sgt. Pepper was showing up on 'Underground' FM, mostly on Friday and Saturday nights, after 10-11 PM.. But in the '70's we all were starting to be able to get some Good Stereo Equipment that made listening to good music Alot of Fun.. That's why the albums of the era have remained so Cherished, so Unique, and So Revolutionary.. In the World of Today everything is Digital.. You can push a button and replicate Almost Anything.. Well, that's good, but when you're working in a Studio and you're recording on Tape, with other musicians who are playing Real instruments, it's Very Much like working in your studio on a New Painting, on a fresh, blank canvas.. Everything is there because You put it there.. As the canvas becomes a Painting, or the tape becomes a Record, it's all constructed step by step.. And it is Real, in the moment, Not replicated by pushing a button.. So, when Neil launched his New Tour, and no-one had Ever heard That song before, and had Never heard the Next one either, everyone adapted.. When you hear
      Pocahontas and then Powderfinger, you Know that you can't live without Neil Young.. Yeah, we had the equipment to enjoy the perfection of Hotel California, but the Soul and the Honesty of My My, Hey Hey just doesn't let go... Lary

The narrator, just turned 22, was leaving boyhood behind by defending his family's land against a gunboat coming up the river. The day he became an adult, however, was also the day he died. - Imagine that. A song sung by a dead man, yet full of life and longing.

    This song reminds me of my son who is lost to me due to drugs, alcohol and, mental illness. I love him so much that I am dying inside. I would go to the ends of the earth and give up everything I have including my life to save him. He has a 2 year old daughter who loves him to death. At this point in time he is in rehab again. If anyone feels so inclined please say a prayer for him. Please, dear Lord help him. Something my grandma told me and I will never forget...a mother is only as happy as her unhappiest child. She is no longer with us but that one simple sentence will haunt me forever.

      May your son keep up the fight. At least he’s in treatment right now. Sobriety is hard work, pleas don’t let him walk the road alone. I am working on 4 years clean and sober thanks to the unending love of my mother and father. Your family is far from alone and I hope there is peace in knowing other people have positive outcomes. Be well🤝

      God bless you,your son, and your lovely little grandgirl...God is there. But your son has to push the Demon (Devil) away. He must make the naked choice alone. With your love and trust. He can do it if he wants. He has to do it for him first. Then you and that beautiful child. Knowing he is loved is very important...but learning that he can love is the hard work of living a life.
      From a sober for 40 years raging alcoholic addict.
      I wish you peace...I hope you can be as happy as possible...whatever that takes.
