I was at that show. It was 2 months after I had a heart attack. My wife gave me 2 tix. Front Row, my wife does not really like Neil so I took my daughter who grew up with Neil playing all the time. It was great!
I took a friend to his 1st Neil show at this one. ALL I really wanted was "Powderfinger". :) If aliens ever come to earth and ask me to define rock n roll, I'm givin 'em Crazy Horse.
I still get a kick out of Neil's unorthodox movements on stage. Poncho and Billy keep that mellow, tight groove with Ralph, and Neil floats right on top of it. Musical bliss.
one time I saw neil live where he spent a good hour going through hurricane, cortez the killer, powderfinger and down by the river. they were so into each song that after the run I was left in stunned awe. blown away. nothing is better than neil and co., getting into it live.
I love this song but at the same time, it evokes emotions of sadness in me. When I first heard the beginning of this song, Vietnam (conflict my foot) instantly hit my stomach deep sadness there, for🇺🇸 our men. Then I felt the Native Americans, and in Canada too surly must have seen and experienced men with guns, just like that, with whatever type boats from their time. Untold thousands of people through history have experienced in one form or another those same emotions of fear, but wanting to be brave. From one time period, on down, of one war to the next. ☮️👣.Yet I still listen to this song, maybe once a day. As old as I am, I still have faith and hope.
I was there and damn was I happy..This is one of my favs and the sound of "ole blackie" makes my skin crawl.Gonna see uncle Ted this year and cant wait to hear HIS black hollow body.
Had "Powderfinger" on a bootleg cassette tape from a live show from at least a year before it came out (1978), and was playing it for anyone I could; "You have to hear this song!!!". Still loving it over 40 years later.
Neil Young still stands as the best illustration that it's what you play on your guitar, not how much or how fast you play. Spine-tingling emotional stuff!
The day this musical genius passes on will be a very sad day. VERY SAD. Thank you Neil Young for all of your work over the years. Keep on rockin' in the free world........................and in the next one.
I was 16 years old in vocational school working on some breaks when Powderfinger was played in the car. It became my favorite Neil Young song. And it is still my favorite at 50.. Thanks for sharing..
I've seen Neil Young 4x, twice solo, once with Crazy Horse and once with the International Harvesters. All good shows. Hey, hey my my, Rock and roll will never die!
First note dead give awat. Your in trouble now boy. 70 yrs old still rockin to this one. Movie runs thru my head. Gotta make it come to life Shakey !!!
Saw Neil play with the Bluenotes in the Monarch Room in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. My friends and I purchased a table adjacent to the stage. Ol' Neily came right up to us as he was doing a blistering lead on a song. I was sitting on far end of table. He stood there for a second, stared right into my eyes as he made those steel strings scream! I could have died and gone to heaven right there.
id have to agree with you. i drove from Dallas, Texas to Red Rocks for a Tool concert back in 2010. first time in Colorado. i fell in love. sad i couldn't make it for one of these shows. ill be seeing em at ACL tho. bring it on!
I've seen Neil and The Horse a few times. Once during Cortez the Killer Neil was jumping up and down so hard his feet flew out and he landed flat on his back. He never missed a chord and lay there till the end of the song. Neil and the Horse... A Power for Good
Play "Powderfinger" Look out, Mama, there's a white boat coming up the river With a big red beacon, and a flag, and a man on the rail I think you'd better call John 'Cause it don't look like they're here to deliver the mail And it's less than a mile away I hope they didn't come to stay It's got numbers on the side and a gun And it's making big waves Daddy's gone, my brother's out hunting in the mountains Big John's been drinking since the river took Emmy-Lou So the Powers That Be left me here to do the thinkin' And I just turned twenty-two I was wondering what to do And the closer they got The more those feelings grew Daddy's rifle in my hand felt reassuring He told me, Red means run, son, numbers add up to nothing But when the first shot hit the docks I saw it coming Raised my rifle to my eye Never stopped to wonder why Then I saw black And my face splashed in the sky Shelter me from the powder and the finger Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger Think of me as one you'd never figured Would fade away so young With so much left undone Remember me to my love I know I'll miss her
I just went & checked out lyrics as I'm trying to figure out what I missed as to why the shootings going on... well I saw my favorite Powderfinger video, that I can't find now on utube & I really liked it cause Neil looked like he was about 15 singing Powderfinger... & well near the lyrics page there was some psycho analizing going on & here I 'll add my own; I revisited awesome historical spots back east when I was about 15 & being from CA I was inspired by the nature I saw in Virginia, Maryland ect, & I think the song is about imagining oneself back in an earlier time & different life circumstances one could have been in, Powderfinger reminds me of Southern Man where again one might imagine a different time , place, circumstances & be inspired in case of Southern Man also history of white supremacy & write about it. I did alot of exploring, imaging , playing too being inspired by the natural wonders I visited back east but I could'nt express it like Neil can. I feel so lucky to have so much awesome music back then, we were truly rich in music, I remember I was also obsessed with Joe Cocker record then, Majorie, Black Bird, Help from Friends ( it is few who can do Beatles song maybe better than them ??? & who else performed like Joe looking like he was having some kind of epiletic attack while performing... oh yea - no I did not go far in the spelling bee but was good at; hey who singing that song ?
+Carl Clandestine Another "What would have happened if" rock stories...............LS and Ronnie would have done a bangup job. Neil had written and recorded the song in 1975 but it was not released until "Rust Never Sleeps" in 1979. I don't think Neil has ever explained how his friendship with Ronnie developed after the "Southern Man" and "Sweet Home Alabama" incident. I will never forget sitting in my college cafeteria eating breakfast and the news came over our college radio station about the plane crash........it broke my spirit for a time.
That is Old Black, no mistaking it, plus he doesn't have another black LP, he has a gold one made to be just like Old Black as well as backup...Old Black was originally a Gold top too, but someone had sprayed it black by the time Neil got it in the late 60s

Keep smiling and smiling too ❤...
Crazy Horse. Now here's a band that should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
That's a big hell yeah!! Long Live the Horse!!

Great Musician!

nice moment in time you captured here..thanks. That whiney nasaly voice continues flawlessly as it sounds exact same after 68 yrs.
I LOVE THIS BAND.

When this first started I though, "Oh well, another crappy fan video." But you really did a GREAT job capturing the song--truly fine work! Thanks!
Excellent
Congrats. Very good quality.
Amazing sound and visual quality!! Well done!!
Magnifica. Un altro capolavoro (uno dei tanti) di questo geniale, unico e meraviglioso artista. Neil Young forever...la leggenda!!! Enzo57Italy
Country has the Ryman. Red Rocks is like going to church.
Gotta make a movie with this narrative. Got it in my head. Let me see it on big screen. Shakey !!!
Thanks for the post dude.
Poncho wiping his forehead after his spot at the mic made me laugh out loud :D
Also, boy I love this song.
Born to rock
Weld has it-great compilation album
Play "Powderfinger"
Look out, Mama, there's a white boat coming up the river
With a big red beacon, and a flag, and a man on the rail
I think you'd better call John
'Cause it don't look like they're here to deliver the mail
And it's less than a mile away
I hope they didn't come to stay
It's got numbers on the side and a gun
And it's making big waves
Daddy's gone, my brother's out hunting in the mountains
Big John's been drinking since the river took Emmy-Lou
So the Powers That Be left me here to do the thinkin'
And I just turned twenty-two
I was wondering what to do
And the closer they got
The more those feelings grew
Daddy's rifle in my hand felt reassuring
He told me, Red means run, son, numbers add up to nothing
But when the first shot hit the docks I saw it coming
Raised my rifle to my eye
Never stopped to wonder why
Then I saw black
And my face splashed in the sky
Shelter me from the powder and the finger
Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger
Think of me as one you'd never figured
Would fade away so young
With so much left undone
Remember me to my love
I know I'll miss her
excellent job with the camera. Simple is best and this is such a great enduring song. keep posting!
Spectacular. Thank you for posting.

NOTHING Like it, nothin better! :)
This was the song he was going to give to Lynyrd Skynyrd before the fatal plane crash......
+Carl Clandestine Another "What would have happened if" rock stories...............LS and Ronnie would have done a bangup job. Thought they hated each other !
Old neil is going BALD lol
My God, his voice hasn't really changed
That is Old Black, no mistaking it, plus he doesn't have another black LP, he has a gold one made to be just like Old Black as well as backup...Old Black was originally a Gold top too, but someone had sprayed it black by the time Neil got it in the late 60s

Just a small panasonic point and shoot (ZS3), a few years old even.
As a homels peron over 60 like to organize evevent where othere homeless get to present their top 5 faforite songs, guess who is the person behind these songs, vote for it,for me neil is there a few times, joan baez too, simon and garfunkel and loudon wainright.
Due to work had to get the wife to record the whole of Live Aid on 9 videos. I was so chuffed when it came out on D V D, gutted though when POWDERFINGER was,nt on it.
I'll try to take some tonight, especially Walk like a Giant.
Gibson’s with P90s for days!
I look at Crazy Horse and think "could any four guys look less like the ones who have unleashed so many maelstroms of rock than they do?"
I like the part: "He told me red means run son / Numbers add up to nothing"
thank you so much for uploading! great footage! have you got any of the new long ones?
Who will take his place? No one around today
I think it says "com" but the top of the "o" got faded out!
Can I have your permission to use a clip this video for my drum cover video? I do drum videos.
It may not be pretty, but it sure rocks like hell.
I like him very much......for me Is very handsome💙👏🎼
Do you happen to have a set list from the show Monday? I am going tomorrow night and was wondering if they did a Cortez. I know it was great!
I bet he's had that guitar strap for ages.
