I am raising a toddler who is picky eater. For me it would be easier to distract him and feed him with veggies then no districting but discussion why he should eat what we eat.
So I combine both. Sometimes, I see value of eating broccoli and listening his favorite music and sometimes, it will be pasta and nice conversation.

Thanks for your comment. I do remember when my daughter was young and we spent an hour at the table encouraging / guiding / cajoling her to eat her pumpkin soup! Exhausting times. It was worth the effort in the long run - but I empathise with you :) My first principle in my book is to "Raise Adults Not Children" - meaning that we're always considering the long-game in the hard tasks of parenting. Well done for investing in your toddler in this way :)

My favourite conversation starter with kids at dinner is "What's your high, low, Gruffalo?" Do you have a question that helps you create meaningful conversations over a meal?
