    This reminds me of Harry Mudd on Star Trek:
    "You see, gentlemen, behind every great man there is a woman urging him on. And so it was with my Stella. She urged me on into outer space. Not that she meant to, but with her continual, eternal, confounded nagging. Well, I think of her constantly, and every time I do, I go further out into space."

    Although it has been mentioned before, Londo's nicknames for his wives ("Pestilence, Famaine, and Death") are the names of three of the Four Riders of the Apocalypse, which implies Londo himself is the Fourth Horseman - War.

    Okay, people keep saying this, and it's got to stop:
    Londo is not war. Londo is the Apocalypse. War is his mistress. War is the being he has romanced but never committed to. The one he flirts with but fears exposing as related to him. When War comes, he is destroyed as much as all others, and all because he couldn't resist the urge for one more circuit.

      Whether or not it is the proper literary reference is not the point. The foreshadowing is for Londo to be War by process of elimination.
      From the Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5 "Soul Mates" page with Peter David's comments as he wrote the episode.
      "Daggair is Pestilence, Timov is Famine, and Mariel is Death.
      At first I was going to have all their names be reflections of the titles "assigned" them by Londo, but I decided that would be too cutesy. The only holdover from that idea is Timov, whose name backwards is, of course, Vomit. (I'll never forget Jane Carr coming over to me the fifth day of shooting and saying in that accented voice of hers, "Peter...did you *know* that my character's name is vomit spelled backwards?" Uhhhh...well, yeah...)
      You all realize, of course, that Londo is--by process of elimination-- War."

    Hmm, Babylon 5 is 75 light years away from Centauri Prime. It is supposed to be, "Deep in neutral territory." Knowing that the Centauri were the first alien civilization earth encountered, and assuming Centauri Prime is fairly centrally located with the Centauri empire, that statement could allow one to look at some astronomical charts and begin building a map of that part of the galaxy in which B5 took place.

    • @Crazael
      @Crazael 5 лет назад +4

      Babylon 5 has kinda a weird map. The few published maps available contradict eachother and the writers were never particularly good about keeping things consistent.

    • @ronfleming8775
      @ronfleming8775 4 года назад +3

      The Centauri empire imploded in a civil war during the 21st Century and Earth and a bunch of minor powers from the League of Nonaligned Worlds occupy most of what used to be their territory. So Centauri Prime could indeed be surprisingly close to what Earth considers "deep space".

    • @odysseusrex5908
      @odysseusrex5908 4 года назад

      @@ronfleming8775 I was unaware of this civil war in our 21st century. What episode was that mentioned in?
      You are certainly right that most, if not all, of the members of the league must have been former Centauri colonies. I always thought that the scripts should have dealt with that more. The great majority of countries here on Earth were, within the last 250 years or so, parts of one or another of eight large empires. Every single one of them has had its economy and culture profoundly affected, for good or ill, by that experience. The League worlds should have been similarly affected by the Centauri, but the only one they ever talked about in that regard was Narn.

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 4 года назад

      Babylon 5 is in neutral territory between Earth and Minbar and also between the Narn Regime and Centauri Republic , like at a crossroads. The Centauri are a shell of their former selves and once did expand further than the 75 light years away. Garibaldi calls out Londo over his claims when they first met, including how large the empire was.
      Space maps are not perfectly spherical and radiating from a certain point, as Star Trek and Star Wars have proven. Hence B5 is just outside everyone's territory by design.

    • @Ruosteinenknight
      @Ruosteinenknight 3 года назад

      Well, Babylon 5's location is stated to be Epsilon Eridani en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epsilon_Eridani_in_fiction The planet it orbits is entirely fictional, though, as there's only one planet in the system and it's a gas giant.

      I'd like to add to that last bit of yours Karen, think about a long future quote: He had four wives, and cared deeply for all of them, but he loved Centauri Prime. Most focus on the last part, but think about the first. Arranged and horrible as the marriages were, he still CARED about each wife, even when he didn't love them. Perhaps that goes into some of that motivation for still keeping the pictures openly displayed.
