Back in the 1980's, Dole had a canning facility near Pearl Harbor. They had a massive, pineapple shaped, water tower. We would take radar fixes on "The Pineapple" to help us determine our location the harbor.
Yes sir. You used to see pineapples everywhere in the 1980's in Hawaii . Not nearly as much any more. I actually brought a couple cases of fresh pineapple home to south texas. We planted 10 of the tops in 5 gallon buckets. Most survived and in several years had small pineapples on a few. This was mostly for fun. Much better to go to the local grocery store. Much of the pineapple today is from costa rica or central america.
Not as much on Oahu anymore, but still on the other islands. The biggest problem with pineapples in HI, is that once you eat them their, you're spoiled for any other pineapple you may come across. They are sooooo good. Lived in Makakilo in the 80s...the whole Ewa plain is housing now too instead of the glorious sugar cane. :-)
While on our honeymoon in May 1979, we toured the Dole Pineapple factory in Honolulu. Every bit of the pineapple is used from fruit, juice, and remains which become animal feed. At the end of the tour, cold pineapple juice spigots and cups were available for refreshment. So sweet and low in acid! I’m glad you too have good pineapple honeymoon memories!
I work at UPS, loading packages. I saw a Maui Gold Pineapple Box come thru our Air Faclity. This reminded me that i saw your video about three days ago.
Grant and Laura you all need to visit a crawfish farm in Louisiana in February of 2022, and attend a crawfish boil, you will enjoy it. Also attend a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.
Thanks for sharing your and Grant's tour of the pineapple farm. Was very interesting to see it all done. Take care of yourselves and may God bless you both with a wonderful life together.
Oh my! That was amazing! When you bit into that fresh sliced pineapple 🍍 it brought me right back to our visit to Hawaii….🥰I could almost taste it from memory.
Grant & Laura have made my day again, it seems that their videos just get better and better. It is something else to see all the different types of farms, thank you for sharing.
I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel and like your content! Congratulations on your marriage!! That pineapple looked so good I ordered a box of 2! Thanks for putting their link on your post! God bless you both and on your new adventure in life.
I planted a pineapple plant in my yard here in S. FL. The rabbits ate it down right to the ground! MY area at one time was known for pineapple farming. No more though. Developers pay more than pineapples.
I don’t remember which video I left my comment on late last year but I was just complimenting you on your charisma, voice and lots of things you have going for you and I’ve wondered if my comment was a bit too strong? Anyway the good thing is that you can genuinely smile in your videos which is something I’m not good at in my videos on my very amateur channel. It’s truly beautiful to see a young couple so happy to be around each other. I’m in Stillwater Minnesota. My family had a dairy farm 5 miles north of Grand Meadow Minnesota that was sold in early 1981 when I was 14. And what am I doing decades later? Watching farming videos. I even rent pole barn storage on an old farm. I have garden tractors and Ford Rangers and I tinker. I’d go crazy if I don’t have an excuse to get out of the house away from my mom.
That was interesting! Just as the cotton farming was! Thanks for showing the pineapple farming to us! Pineapples are health food. They contain bromelain.
Maui gold pineapple the best in the world.I loved it there we did volcano ride and the one thing we did several days is snorkeling the fish are so amazing Maui is a paradise I am glad you got to experience it.Thank you for making your videos and sharing your life journey
I'm glad you got to see the pineapples and me and you have a blessed life with you and Grant and I hope your grandfather gets well and as soon as possible we're praying for him from Steve Tutterow from Stephen
This is funny cuz I seen you driving your farm tractor one on RUclips one day and i said is she going to do a Blog got a couple pineapple plants myself here in Florida but they take forever to grow PS love that Farm Life
Laura and Grant, you have a unique spin on farming with your "farming around the US" tour. It's extremely interesting and fun and very informative. I think your naturally inquisitive nature and enthusiasm for learning and sharing with us make it so much fun. I wonder where your "farm" travels will take us next? A fish or worm farm? 🤗😏😂. Or something more traditional? Whatever...whether new farming adventures or your own farms, we'll be eagerly watching.
Not to take anything away from the pineapple plantation, but that VW was intriguing! Never seen anything like it, but it did look impressive!😘 Can’t say that I blame you, excellent selection, that vehicle looked sweet!!
3:11 I think Laura just got her first taste of fresh pineapple. I remember that taste, now I can't eat pineapple unless I'm in Hawaii. Glad you two got to go.
Florida grows them below homestead I seen them after hurricane Andrew came through I drove truck for Florida dairy farmers and had the task of delivering water in our tankers to the people who didn’t have water I was shocked the first time I seen that couldn’t believe it
Hello from Germany! Unfortunately, the VW vans are no longer produced in this form. I just want to throw that in once. My father had one for years and was very happy with it. These transpoters are now rarities that fetch good prices. The newer ones aren't as popular as these for a long time. Thanks for the beautiful videos you are making. I'm interested in farming in America and the machines. In terms of dimensions alone, this is a completely different matter than here in southwest Germany. Although the farms are also getting bigger and using modern machines. I myself grew up on a farm that no longer exists. It was a great time and good life experience. Maybe you should try growing pineapples yourself. 😁 Greetings Stefan
So many farms in England no longer exist, as recent governments have not focussed on controlling our population, and instead encouraged uncontrolled building of houses, etc. It is such a shame as the English countryside is being swallowed up by tarmac and brick.
@@thetessellater9163, The farm belongs to a close friend of the family. My great-grandfather was a shepherd and also friends with the family on the farm. A shepherd was like a veterinarian back then. Before a farmer asked a veterinarian, he brought the shepherd. That was a question of cost because the shepherd was satisfied with a good meal. That's how they explained it to me. The children are not interested in agriculture and have better jobs. A lot of money should have been invested in the farm in order to comply with the strict and modern regulations of agriculture. Since the farmer has reached retirement age, it was obvious to give up farming. The size of the company would not have paid off either. The farm was too small to survive today's price war. So it is another farm that fell victim to the death of the farm. I would never have even dreamed of it! An ice-cold shiver runs down my spine when I see the empty, dead-silent stable today. There was always life in the house. It was never cold either. Today it is quieter than any cemetery, and in winter it is colder than some can imagine. It was once the second largest farm in town. Now it's an empty, dead house that is way too big and way too old. I think the next step is to demolish the building and build new homes on the site. My youth on this farm was very formative for me. The farmer treated me like his own son. And the time there was the best of my life. Even if you had to work hard and a lot. But I will never forget this time. It's just a shame that such a farm is also subject to impermanence.
Fun fact about pineapples, they are trying to eat you as you eat them, has something to do with the enzymes as they try to dissolve you, but your stomach acid neutralizes it
It is funny I have switched to John Deere green and yellow on my GT Sport kart racing. It is funny how many people try and correct the spelling, yet their game names don't even make sense nor are they spelled right. LOL I tried Farm Sim 17 and I never could get into it. I do drive semis in American Truck Sim on PC, I even have a large steering wheel with a spinner and a shifter with an Eaton 18 speed shifter handle that actually works. Lot of fun for a retired guy.
Laura, you gave a very nice presentation, I wish you could travel with rubicon, that is jeep, but tastes and colors are indisputable, greetings from turkey
You Two Crack Me Up . Where Do Two Nebraska Farmers Go on Their Honeymoon ?? Why Of Course To a Hawaiian Farm !! You Flew 3,556 miles To Vacation on a Farm . Now That's True Love !! God Bless , Peace and Prosper !!
I am a Michigan boy. When I drive out to Wyoming, Utah, or Arizona,(sisters or white water canoeing), and I pass Nebraska,, I wave to you from I-80. But,,, my sister in Hawaii wants help building their new house. I am, at present, in Hawaii, The Big Island. When you come to see Kilauea, wave as you go by Keaau. Or, Sunday morning at Kaleos at Orchidland, 8AM breakfast. See you there.
I have family in manati Puerto Rico it is full of pineapples I can't wait till I'm back on the island sipping on a pina colada where they were invented they even serve them in a little pineapple
I was snorkeling off the coast of Kauai several years ago and when I surfaced, the sky was filled with smoke. It looked like the world was coming to an end. Bungees go through the handles of anything that has handles. That way it pushes it against your back. This is for the people reading it, and for you next time you tie something down on a motorcycle. Oh, and the back pack goes on your back, always when trying to pack something else on the seat behind you, unless it has arms and legs which in that case the backpack goes on their back.

Okay, I can see you two expand and live in Maui and run a Pineapple farm. I am an islander also and I have been in Maui. Beautiful place. You can export Pineapple and Corn.
Very cool the last time we were in Hawaii/ Maui we were your age were 70 now and we live in Florida but would love to go back even through were old farts now. When I was in the Navy on the USS TICONDEROGA Aircraft Carrier was 1971 to 73 at one point we were there 6 times in less than 3 yrs. We were the Recovery Ship for the Apollo 16-17 recoveries the last Manned Moon Missions. Unfortunately when we ported in Pearl Harbor as Sailors we didn't get to much time there to do it right. Enjoy your Honeymoon. A lot better than Niagara.
As a fellow adventure tourer, I'd advise you stay away from bungee straps and go with Rok straps in the future. It's a much better way to secure cargo on your motorcycle. Great video guys!!
not quite the pinapple topic but i wanted to ask Grant with the river access you have ,do you think you will hunting deer or waterfowl down there. Be good place for a deer stand. Just saying.
I followed that pineapple boom 8 hours a a day, 6-days a week between my junior and senior years in high school, for. $1.60/hour. That job taught me 2 things, perseverance, and that I did not want to spend my life doing field labor. The first was much more valuable than the $320.00 that I took home at the end of the work contract.
Wow the patience it would take to grow pineapples. Glad someone grows them because I really love them.

Fun farm tour! Let's see more orchard tours, then you'll get a chance to taste the products in real time. Oranges, peaches, almonds, apples, apricots!

i still dream about that pineapple and its been over 10yrs
Grew up on that plantation on Maui. Picked pineapples every summer since I was in 8th grade. Hard work but fun.

Laura and Grant have transcended the Nebraska corn fields... They are Agricultural Diplomats!!!
THAT'S VERY PROGRESSIVE OF YOU TO SAY....LOL!
I planted a pineapple plant in my yard here in S. FL. The rabbits ate it down right to the ground! MY area at one time was known for pineapple farming. No more though. Developers pay more than pineapples.
I drank a ton of delicious coconut milk when I first got to Hawaii. The next 36 hours had to be spent within 30 seconds of a bathroom! Just an FYI!
I don't know what you did Laura, but you have the most sensual voice now :-) Once again a very informative video, love it!

They quit sugar cane a couple years ago on the Island. You could take a public road that went right thru the sugar cane processing plant complex.
Why do I have just discovered your channel?... Your video's are so nice to watch! Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪
Not to take anything away from the pineapple plantation, but that VW was intriguing! Never seen anything like it, but it did look impressive!😘 Can’t say that I blame you, excellent selection, that vehicle looked sweet!!
Indeed...??!! Need to explore, somemore!! See if any still are on the 48!?
I didn’t like pineapples until I took a trip to Hawaii. Best I’ve ever had.
Thank you for the voice over.

Find the sugar plantation, and how they are saving rare seeds, also amazing vodka and rum there.
VW transporter ...you see them a lot over here in the netherlands...mostly vans...not a lot flat beds...this one sure is cute...:D ...
Fun fact about pineapples, they are trying to eat you as you eat them, has something to do with the enzymes as they try to dissolve you, but your stomach acid neutralizes it
They have genetically engineered pineapples which reduce that. They've only grown a few small crops so far, though. They're also bright pink inside.
That's true. I remember carving into my first whole pineapple and before long my lips were cracked and stinging but it was so good on a warm day.
Thank God that's all that fell off the bike
Nice video glad you had fun
Nothing better than the taste of a fresh Hawaiian pineapple at breakfast.
Now I need a tropical drink. Thanks a lot Laura. LOL

Never new that about a pineapple farm interesting!
I love your videos and would love to see more about how vegetables and fruits are harvested very interesting.

Great video Laura...never knew pineapple was grown on ground...thx for sharing...
HaHa!!
Before the Facebook farming game I thought pineapples grew in trees. I was devastated.
I had watched an old episode of Hawaii Five-0 and they were searching for a murderer. The finger prints they got were terrible and the murderer turned out to be a pineapple worker. They mentioned that the pineapple acid had eaten the finger prints away and that led them to the suspect. Never have forgotten that.
