Today we're talking Billie Eilish's 3rd album, Hit Me Hard And Soft. I'll give my thoughts on tracks like Lunch, Skinny, Blue- honestly, we're talking about the whole album. We'll as talk about my favorites, as well as discuss an unpopular opinion from months ago as to whether Billie and Finneas should keep working together.

If there’s one person who never needs to change producers it’s Billie. Their parents must be so proud
For real. It drives me a little nuts when people are like “she needs to work with someone else.” Like, why? She and Finneas are both super talented in their own rights but there is something about their work together that I feel is even bigger than the sum of their parts. They elevate each other. But since they aren’t officially branded as a duo, most people dont realize that currently “Billie Eilish” is essentially a band with two members
@@missliss2581able She's not a band with two members. A Singer-Songwriter and production duo. I feel like y'all say that to downplay her and other women's work behind the scenes. She's done ALOT more production work on this album! She's credited as a vocal editor, engineer, keyboardist, composer, lyricist and even music video director for the videos that dropped.
And ppl will try to say "well Finneas deserves acknowledgement too"...he has also won Grammys, worked on tour with her, he is such a talented producer he has worked with the likes of Selena Gomez, Lizzy McAlpine and Tove Lo (due to his work with Billie) and has made two great albums that I can almost assure any person that leans on this argument can't name a fucking single to save their lives. Ofc he is talented, but on multiple occasions, he has thanked Billie and placed her as the greatest help to his career because without her, he would not be an award-winning producer. You can appreciate him, but just using him as a backhanded compliment to downplay Billie's work and artistry is corny asf. Finneas himself in multiple interviews has even said he doesn't like how people downplay Billie's role in HER own music. Not his, her's. Watch the interviews specifically for Happier than Ever and What was I made for? Y'all do it to alot of younger female artists and I just want to see this pattern stop
It absolutely hit for me. Best album she’s done so far. I’ve listened to other critics reviews of this album and I’ve never been so disappointed by a 7/10 lol. I loved this album! Takes the restless creative energy of her first album, the introspective, low key vibes of her second and combines the two in a mature way. Also she’s really SINGING on this one. Belting and letting it all out on songs like The Greatest.
The Greatest made me emo lmaoooo
@@naomi.cannibal lol 😂 YEP understandable
The signing is what I really noticed
this album just feels so much more mature than both of her previous records in production, lyric and vocal quality. she SERVED. 10/10.
I love that she’s my age and killing it (22)
Yessssss. Why is Lunch a certified bop???
And isss
You can tell she was really trying with the moves too. She went for it, which is what I like. It feels very different and sort of refreshing.
I do believe that this album is a huge improvement from her sophomore album. Her first album is definitely her best by a wide margin because of how innovative and creative the production was. And the songs themselves were all bangers… imo happier than ever was a slight downgrade from her first album with it losing some of the originality that made Billie, Billie ( although the very good songs are absolutely amazing). Hit me hard and soft is so good because it feels like a mix of the best qualities of happier than ever and when we all fall asleep where do we go.
I love this album. It gets better with each listen. Birds of a Feather is my favorite. Totally aside, but my mind is always thinking ahead to the Grammys and it’s going to be so interesting this go around in a mostly good way. Dare I say, this year has been a good year for music and album releases so far.
Billie won’t win but wishful thinking I guess
@@LetsDestroyTheInternet I never said she would. My comment is speaking very broadly hence my comment about this year being a good year for music and solid album releases and why I think this year’s Grammys are going to be good because of that. I love this album; however I do also personally believe that at least a couple other albums in my mind have a higher shot at winning some of the heavy hitter awards. It doesn’t make me love this album any less though. Just an opinion.
this girlie did not disappoint. I was weary because we saw how many called her a flop for HTE. I personally loved that album and will defend that to this day lol. this album is just too good, I don't have one song I dislike. she really proved herself as a vocalist with this album. she kind of steered away from her typical “whisper” singing and really emphasized her vocals. the greatest, chihiro, and birds of a feather along with obv lunch are some of my favs. skinny just had be bawling, so beautiful.
can we also appreciate finneas and his production. he is so versatile and unique with his sounds. normally I like to see artists work with different writers and producers but honestly they work so well together I would not mind if they stick together for their entire career. i’m surprised pitchfork complained about her working with finneas being overdone when I actually think with each album they continue to expand their production style. none of the albums sound alike while also staying true to the typical “Billie Eilish” sound. she for is one of the few artists where I don’t think she’ll ever need to switch producers, her brother is that talented.
Yeah it hit. I like the mixes of the old her and new her on here. I like the shorter but more meaningful tracklist. 10 3-5 min songs is lowkey unheard of in the mainstream over the past few years so its VERY refreshing to hear meaningful songs with a nice length to them. Birds of a feather and blue are probably my favorite songs from her. Blue reminds me of some older billie stuff and Birds gives us a new billie vibe. I like the beautiful cinematic production from Finneas with the drums from their tour drummer too! 8/10
I love that she's been using more of her voice now - if that makes sense lol she has such a pretty voice!!
It hit for me! I love the production especially. We are being fed this year!
Definitely her best work, so far. Gonna be disappointing if Taylor’s antics block her from #1..
Tbf if Taylor manages to stay No.1 over a month after her album came and with big releases like Dua and Billie then she kinda deserves it. I doubt Taylor releasing a single remix is gonna help her much.
@@jellytwins1018 she released new pointless new versions of the album and made sure they shipped this week to impact the charts to stop Billie
@@Gemmydude598 pretty sure it was just a remix
Really hope she expands on that hyperpop sound of La’Amour De Ma Vie
She's already making an extended version of it
4:33 this is so true! So nostalgic. One of those videos for me was Shareefa and Ludacris ‘ I need a boss’ and Letoya’s ‘torn’
As a big woman my cravings are definitely worse than my crushes. I mean sometimes a crush is almost as bad but you need food to live: the most I usually want from a crush to feel like I’m not alone and I’m very good at imagining that I have company/ talking to myself to compensate for it. I’m horrible at pretending to feel satiated though.
I WISH SHE WAOULD DO AN RNB ALBUMM,,, also Yk what’s funny? Google says chihiro and lunch are RnB songs 💀 nOt sure what that’s abt
Not really ventured into the world of billie other than her hits, but I thought i’d give this a listen and this genuinely has got to be one of the best albums so far this year. I love the maturity and the lyrics, defo on repeat!
same. i was never that big of a fan of her lead singles but i gave this album a listen and i love it
Thanks for such a detailed review! I remember those early morning MTV videos, it totally looks like that lol
this album is amazing. i was expecting to like it, but i was blown away. eternal sunshine is my favorite album that’s come out this year bc i’m biased, but this is the best album ive heard in a long time.
i really like your analysis of the instrumentation of these songs as well as your takes on the lyrics!!
The circus-y sound in Diner reminded me of The Family Jewels from Marina, especially Girls
this album is so good. the variety of genres is a plus, and the album is like an immersive experience
woke up this morning thinking to myself did Naomi post abt the new billie yet?? glad i checked!
I think this is her best album yet. I love when pop artists are able to take risks and still be mainstream. Hopefully other artists will follow suit and start making longer songs with full bridges and outros!
My favorite Billie album so far, which is a high compliment considering how much Happier Than Ever impacted me at the time.
YES. IT. IS!!! ALL OF THESE SONGS ARE BANGERS!!! Billie just really is that girl, man! Her and Olivia are definitely the queens of Gen Z!
Unquestionably the two best mainstream artists of our generation
olivia is nowhere near billie's level lmao. She and sabrina are more comparable.
In regards to L’amour de ma vie, personally I didn’t read it as her being cheeky and sarcastic and lying on purpose back when she said the other person was the love of her life… she could’ve felt it was true when she said it, but time let her understand it wasn’t. I’ve definitely felt that!
(Also, the supposed real life backstory of Wildflower gives you a whole, deep perspective and appreciation for her lyrics and sentiment)
I love LUNCH and a couple others but I’m ~desperate~ for her to do some more upbeat or aggressive pop, lol. I’m a little tired of the melodic warbles and whispers, but I’m here for whatever she does.
WWAFAWDWG got me into Billie and then I wasn’t a huge fan of happier than ever, but this album is by far my favourite of hers.
Since we have all now-
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT 9.5/10
Radical optimism 8.5/10
eternal sunshine 8.0/10
TTPD 6.5/10
Whose album is radical optimism?

Happier Than Ever is still her best album. I unfortunately found myself skipping majority of the tracks on this project. Might grow on me though!
I prefer happier than ever but I’m glad she’s making music she feels is more authentic
I’m so bad at forming an opinion on an album once the songs become popular on tiktok or insta cus then my mind goes straight to whatever tiktok trend they’ve created.💀 but I remember listening to the album at like 12 am and being so surprised by the sound. Like I loved all the songs, the way they call back to each other. And her vocals are so different from the whisper stuff ppl say they hate abt her, although, I don’t think she’s ever been a whisper singer. 💀 and the production is great, her bro ate
Any chance you’ll ever do a group meet up like Mina Le did in New York a year ago?
not against it at all! maybe someday cause I’d love to meet some of yall irl! I scream when some of yall comment u saw me at a concert or something but was scared to say hi bc im like plsss do!!
Omg 2 fave cont creators hooking up I can’t withstand the queen-ness
i lvoe this album and it might become my aoty this year. sorry deeper well you are on the 2nd spot. my fav tracks are chihiro, birds of a feather and the greatest
a definite 8.5/10 for me! no skips in the album and i prefer it over happier than ever because it’s more consistent imo, but her debut is still my favourite 💙
21:53 imagine if Billie ever does rnb in her future music projects, that’d be interesting ngl
Shes confirming there will be a double album at the end. This has been a theory for years.
this is better... i hope you're right!
naomi could you PLEASEEE do a teenage dream and PRISM era’s analysed 🙏💖, since katy’s new album is coming and apparently it’s gonna be like another teenage dream era 🧡??
Personally, I think this is her best album so far.
it’s between this and debut for me…I was so obsessed w that album, it being 5 years old is wild
She’s doing a jazzier tone,,, it’s a jazz song 17:58
I love all but the slow songs 😂
I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY ME
Liked SKINNY, LUNCH, so far all I've heard
when I think craving it’s pure lust
I get the ick from her voice, I'm definitely not a fan. The topics she chooses to sing about always come off toxic or from a mentally unwell standpoint so she just does not appeal to me in any regard. Still an interesting video, it's fun to see other perspectives even if i dislike the artist.
Birds of a Feather is sang better, but reminds me of Handmade Heaven by Marina.
At number 2 in Billboard 200, her first one when she failed to reach number one
She has the third biggest debuting album of the year, only Beyonce and Taylor Swift did better. For a 22 year old, being in the company of two legendary performers and well outselling other industry vets that released albums this year is a lot to be proud of. Plus from interviews she just wanted the album out. If the number one was that important to her, she would have held it back for a couple of months
The gays win
Contradictary to popular opinion sadly I do not enjoy this album.
I was reading some other opinions this morning! seems like they’re more mixed than it seemed the day the album dropped, which is p normal
Double this; make out voices more heard 🤣
Both me and my roommate thought she was trying too hard to grab the success of What Was I Made For 🫢
Y’all were wrong,,,, she made this before it became a hit
Only skinny is reminiscent of that be fr trying too hard.
this album has so much variety. nothing sounds like wwimf
