Fight to Survive is best premiere release up there with Kill Em All. Many can't justify liking both, but White Lion were not a "Glam" band. Started out, jeans, t shirts, No make up or hairspray & 99% male audiences & fans. Just naturally fluffy italian hair, as Anthrax, Metallica, Overkill etc had.
The naturally pretty foreign singer, then lable pushing for trending look & sound yet they retained their integrity & created more great songs to appease all. Unfortunately those who learned of them later via radio & videos pushed, did not know of FTS & their deep meaningful lyrics & talent thats set them apart. Yet once convincing some pioneer fans were able to drag the naysayers to a show, they would quickly stand with their mouths open in disbelief & leave loving them & then fight for the honor they deserved! Many fail to look beyond the surface of the more popular lights stuff pushed by executives based on only what the MTV crowd could handle, which is unfortunately often the case. There is a deepness & wanting to help make a better world. Only wish Vitto would sit with Mike figure their crap out. They were on the same page when they formed the band in 83 & after the smoke was clearing the wants were still the same. Unfortunately they were unable to see that. Also why Vitto fights Mike on his desire to continue to bring even past White Lion back to the fans is beyond me. Mike had all members back & Vitto declined & fought for what reasons we have no true reasons for even after Mike promised all Vitto wanted. These men need to settle what ever may lay under the surface & resolve our need for these brilliant mento bring us more amazing music we NEED❣️

This really captures all the edge and swagger that White Lion had at that time. Vito had Eddie-esque chops and tone and Mike Tramp was a Diamond Dave type frontman. Pride was released in 1987 and the rest was history for these guys. Fight To Survive was the first White Lion song that I heard on Philly's Metal Shop in 1986. Few can capture a vintage Van Halen sound and do it right.

I think that if any of us wanted to hear or see the Mighty VH we would just go directly to them, and not to another band that tries hard to be them. Perhaps that was their pitfall, they should’ve gone with being them.

The opening acts for this show (for the locals) were Brooklyn's own Seductive Luck and Lust. Great night and one of the few I can actually remember...I miss metal...

They didn’t stand a chance against GNR and many others. In part because they placed all their chips on the poster boys looks and songs.

@@estudiandoaprendo4365 I don't know about that. Pride was released in '87 and the band had a top 5 and a top 10 single, and 3 videos on heavy rotation on MTV. 2nd and 3rd records just didn't sell as many but WL did give it a great try. Mike and Vito wrote great songs with pop hooks and they should have had more hit songs. but the era was saturated with bands that received more airplay, sold more records and enabled them to headlines arenas/sheds in America. WL never reached that level but not for lack of trying.
just 5 months later WL is opening for Kiss in arenas. not bad, huh?

Metal is still out there...still thriving in Europe...Michael Monroe, The Poodles, Vega, Summers, Big Time, Bai Bang, Scream Arena, H.E.A.T, Dynazty to name but a few..

Does New York still have rock clubs like this? I think some kids died stage diving or some such caused this venue to close up or so the scuttlebutt said.
