Moldova narrowly votes to join EU, referendum saw “unprecedented” Russian interference: bloc

- Moldova’s referendum on joining the European Union (EU) took place among “unprecedented” interference by Russia and its proxies, according to a spokesperson for the bloc.
A very slim majority - just over 50 per cent - voted yes in Sunday’s referendum inserting a clause in the constitution that would define EU membership as a goal, with fewer than 1.5 per cent of ballots still to be counted.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who is seeking referendum, wants the country to join the bloc by 2030.
The referendum - along with the presidential election, whose first round also took place on Sunday - are seen as a test of whether the former Soviet republic can escape Moscow’s sphere once and for all.

It seems they forgot to ask other EU countries if they even want to take another tax liability.
The countries have lost their say unfortunately
They invited Moldova to join 😂 if you don’t even know how it works why do you comment you’re embarrassing yourself Ivan 😂
@@Aaron-rw3lv Did they have a referendum about inviting it in France or Germany? If not, then who do you mean by "they"?
YOU forgot that such a question is not timely yet. EU countries WILL get to vote individually on extension, later.
@@leonniceday6807 again, who exactly gets to vote here? Which referendum is it?
Good for Moldova 🇲🇩
My sincere condolences!
Russian interference....sure...Hahahaha!!! Wasn't news supposed to be there to report news not to give opinions?
Russians literally paid people OPENLY, to vote for pro russian candidates. This is not and opinion, this is a fact .
Russian Moldovans were banned from voting in Russia. Transnistria is against. So, Moldova actually voted against the EU.
LOLOLOL
No one was banned from voting.
Several areas of the country voted nearly 90% against.
Not because they are Russia friendly.
But because they fear Russian aggression.
Lets not forget....This is one of the reasons why Ukraine got attacked in the first place.
Not the reason.
But one of them
The reason is a bit more complicated.
And directly a result of the USA breaking a treaty that had been made with Russia only the day before.
Thanks Trump.....Starting a war and all.
Breaking a treaty with Russia.
Showing the whole world.
America's word has no value.
Such leadership
When Ukraine finishes with Russia, Ukrainians will take care of Transnistria, Transnistria will not be a problem any more for Moldova.

"Russian Interference" 😂🤣🤣
The Russians put a lot of money into fighting it and now that it didn't go their way Dmitry Peskov, is complaining about the referendum and demanding proof that it was legitimate.
They didn't mention that it was a presidential election and a referendum on the joining of EU. The joining of EU won narrowly, but the re-election of the pro-EU president is still to be decided in the second tour of elections. Not a surprise for the joining of EU as a lot of moldovans work in EU countries. On the other hand, this now risks the aggravation of the Transnistrian question. If the EU will accept Moldova the question of borders will come up again. Also, people in Transnistria didn't vote on it, but might be dragged into it. I can see it go in the following ways:
a. Moldova is accepted into the EU and Moldova with the backing of Romania forces Transnistria to go along. It could go down the path of introduction of Romanian troops in Moldova and maybe Transnistria.
b. A more unlikely scenario is that Moldova might renounce its claim to Transnistria as it kind of indirectly did so because of how it declared independence, citing the illegality of the act that made Besaarabia part of the USSR, but the same act also passed Transnistria to the Moldovan SSR. In that case Transnistria will be completely isolated and economically stranded as all its economic transit is legalized through companies in Moldova. In this scenario Ukraine might decide to reclaim the territory.
c. Moldova will be waiting for an unknown amount of time as the EU won't want to deal with the uncertainty of the situation.
Scenarios A and B seem the most likely to me. And a consequence down the line for scenario A might also be the eventual integration of Moldova into Romania. Will anything change for Moldovans? Maybe a bit of an easier time working abroad, but a lot have long since obtained Romanian citizenship and work in the EU based on it. It might expose the people to a widening of the conflict though. In more peaceful days I'd be for this, but now I don't know. I don't have any illusions about it though. Hopes for a change for the best aren't high. This has more to do with the political games of other countries than the interests of moldovans per se.
Russian interference? Man, that Hillary Clinton sure does get around!
We can expect heavy Russian interference in the US election
As Putin owns Trump....has him over a barrel....literally.
Trump is the man that did break the NATO treaty with Russia concerning Ukraine.
Putin could destroy Trump's image in the US with so much ease.
Putin has all the aces when dealing with a buyable and very very weak Trump.
I guess you missed Dimitry Peskov on the news complaining about Moldova's referendum.
They will regret that decision
They actually voted against, but the there was vote rigging.
@@annebayrou2154 it's the other way around, they voted in favor of it despite Russian rigging.

reverse logic is true, the more you don't want to be the next Ukraine, the more you need to be part of EU !! instead
Russia will have to move all its forces out of Moldova🎉
Unprecedented indeed.
Less than ever before, thats why the vote went through this time?
Logically, they must've been always doing MORE interference since moldova never successfully voted to join in the past, right?
Or how?
No more Russia!!!!
An amazing outcome considering the Russian interference has been going on since the break up of the Soviet union.

As long as Ukraine holds the Russians back, Moldova should be OK. Of course the EU should be doing everything in its power to ensure a Ukrainian victory.

Poor Putin. He lost Moldova too. He is completely surrounded.
The next thing that has to be done is, in response to North Korean intervention in the war (which shows just how desperate Putin is), NATO needs to intervene and deny Russia the airspace of Ukraine. That would be a huge advantage for Ukraine and the end for Putin.
So you figure we should start WW3 because of alleged NK involvement in a war that NATO is sponsoring?…. By the way, Russia is not losing.
