    A lot of people complain about the water resistance, but they don’t go diving. If they went diving, they’d know they use computers now. And even if you wanna take this watch for a swim, it can still be done. A non-diver says no to this watch because it’s water resistance is not for diving standard. That sounds kind of stupid to me. I don’t dive. I usually don’t go swimming either and if I did, I’d leave the watch at home. I’m not gonna test out the lume under water while I’m supposed to enjoy swimming with my kids. People. Come up with better excuses.

    • @danthunderbolton4350
      @danthunderbolton4350 2 года назад +13

      Ok ok, BUT, a few years ago they offer almost the same watch (not GMT, I know) for half the price and 20 bar of water resistance. That is what frustrate the aficionados.

    • @Serdaruzun88
      @Serdaruzun88 2 года назад +22

      @@danthunderbolton4350 the question still remains: were you planning on diving with it? Because 100m is still good for swimming. And pretty sure you can swim laps under water with this watch. You just can’t take it for a deep dive. Only reason I bought this watch because of the office gmt-function and that it’s a first for seiko to produce an skx-lookalike with a different function. It’s a great watch to wear. I’ve had it for over a month now. It’s been on my wrist daily and I love it.

    • @danthunderbolton4350
      @danthunderbolton4350 2 года назад +2

      I understand your point, that GMT is a nice watch at a reasonable price for current standards. It is summer and in this very moment I am wearing my 16 years old SKX007 which I purchased for 150 € on silicone strap. Seiko has reorganised its catalogue, giving the performance of scuba diving to other models, downgrading the original SKX your GMT is based on. That’s the reason of the disappointment. It could have been a 200 M but for marketing reasons they didn’t want to.

      @@danthunderbolton4350 Why does the 200m matter so much to you guys though? It literally makes no sense at all. It's just chasing specs. I've also heard "It's peace of mind," Peace of mind...like, for what? That you'd get caught in a literal tsunami and your watch wouldn't leak? The point remains that this watch is good for 100m (and more). My brother just went to Hawaii and dove with sharks with his 100m watch, and it was perfectly fine. He texted me "Welp, my 100m watch survived diving with sharks without leaking. The watch bros are running out of excuses now." Exactly. It's silly.
      The fact remains that 99.97% of wearers of this watch will do little more than wash their hands with it or swim with it once or twice. If you dive with it, wear a diver. The average watch afficionado has 5-10 of them already. And let's be even more honest: the SKX was never good enough for the "watch community" anyway. What did people do when they bought them? Replaced everything on them except the dial...turning a $150 watch into a $450-$500 one instantly, because they weren't happy with the stock package. It's all a bunch of nonsense to continually hate on the 5KX for the same reason.

    • @danthunderbolton4350
      @danthunderbolton4350 2 года назад

      @@caomhan84 I know the finishing of SKX bezel is not great, the 7S26 movement is basic and needs adjustment, but we love as it is. Some tunnings are nice, but I love the watch as it is. It was a bargain that will never back. The dimensions, unique case, overall finish and performance had no rival for the price asked. Seiko needed to change that to organise its range and deliberately downgrade the water resistance. I understand your point, but for many people, with the SK5 they are selling us a fashion SKX without the old water resistance. Many people apreciate performance eventhough you don´t need it. There are many examples of that with chronos, divers, moonwatches, magnetic resitances etc.

    Got the 'blueberry' version and it really is worth more to me than the sum of its parts already. Sometimes I buy a spec monster and cannot bond, flip it with a tinge of disappointment as I ticked all the boxes... then sometimes I buy a weak spec list (like this) which I just think looks cool and I just connect. It is a cool piece and I think it'll stay for a long time in the collection. The bezel insert is my favourite - plays with the light so well!

    I think you’re right that there’s a difference between the JDM model (SBSC001) and the international market model (SSK001). At least from the online pictures, it looks like the SBSC001 has no sunray dial and brushed mid links. And the SSK001 has a sunray dial and polished mid links.

      Actually, they are not made in Japan.
      According to Japanese law it is allowed to print 'Made in Japan' on the watch, as long as it was produced under supervision of Japanese citizens, even if made in a foreign country.

    I have both the black and the blue version. My Seiko dealer sold me the blue at half off after I bought the black version. I had a hard time choosing between the two but ultimately chose the black at least until I got both. Both of them have the polished center links but I like the way it looks. The most interesting part about the black one that nobody talks about is that the bezel insert looks grey but when you get it out in the sun or bright enough lighting it takes on a chrome mirror like appearance. I hope Seiko continues to make bezels like this because they certainly are interesting .

This is 10 bar with stem seals just don’t have screw down crown. I’d wear it in ocean and pool with no worries. If 200m is important get a Duro, PADI, Tag, or a dedicated diver if you’re uncomfortable.

    The single best thing about this release is that it means the NH version (NH34?) of this movement will be available for microbrands..
    Zelos has already planned a GMT version of their Blacktip skindiver (presumably with this movement). Marc from Longislandwatch has indicated he will have an Islander watch with this movement.. Every single one of these microbrands is going to outclass the seiko in terms of finishing and specs (sapphire crystal, better bracelets and clasps, better case finishing etc)

    The lume on the 12 index I mean the lume dot is not needed, they should removed the lume from the GMT hand as well, what is the point of that hand in the dark? if the bezel ring indicators are invisible. The watch look clean as it is. Seiko did a great job in minimizing the text on the bezel.

    I got the "Batman" blue version. A little disappointed in that it is a heavy watch at 149g and thick at 13.5mm, but that appears to be the norm for mechanical divers type watches, if you want thin and light, get a quartz movement. The blue dial coloring is really subtle, as is the blue coloring of the lower half of the bezel, the light has to hit it just right, so the effect is really classy and understated. I would say the design was inspired by the Rolex GMT, instead of being a clone. I'm not a fan of the Jubilee style bracelet. I found another bracelet so I'll see if that works out better.

But for credibility this watch must have a screw down crown. And Seiko it's time to let go of the hardlex it's 2023 and any good watch over $300 must have a sapphire crystal. I think the best part of this watch is the new movement.But others on here are more knowledgeable than I am. And just one more thing wasn't the original skx iconic because it was used in famous movies as a real dive watch with a screw down crown and was certified.So Seiko what happened.

    Having screw in crown is not good only if we want a watch for diving. Is is also good to keep the movement perfectly sealed from the environment.
    It is like the question, why you need a car with 250 km/h top speed if you can drive at 50 in cities legally.
    Still I prefer a bigger engine for just in case situations.
    My biggest problem with this Seiko is not the lack of the water resistance but the high price with the lack of water resistance. For $90 I don’t mind the non screw in crown. For almost $500 I do…
    I really don’t ike the fact that Seiko became a rip off company instead of being a “providing a decent watch for a decent man” company.

    It's a nice looking watch, prefer the orange myself. Maybe if you swap your bracelet for the all brushed one, your friend won't notice? 😂😂 Seriously though, it's pretty good, but for almost $500 a milled clasp and sapphire crystal would have been appropriate. At least it has solid end links I suppose. I did see a, video with this on a timegrapher and it was running at +1 spd which wasn't bad. However on the plus side, with Hardlex and pressed clasp, you can bet the price will go down, and when the movement is sold to third parties we could see some microbrands and the better Ali Express brands using this movement in watches with sapphire etc for a better price. Honestly, though I'm a Seiko fan, I wouldn't pay full retail for this. I would wait, will probably see it for $350-375 at some point.

    This watches resist about 328 feet. I don't think that right now a million people in the world are capable of diving 328 feet so Seiko is right.
    Air and water pressure resistance don't have anything to do with the material resistance of the watch. It is simply adjusted with a more ressistant rubber o ring.

    That ridiculous 5 logo is what kills these watches for me. It’s like they intentionally need to slap something ugly on the dial so that their up market products can look like what you would expect. That and not having a screw down kills this piece for me. Wish they would charge me a grand for taking off the stupid logo, giving me a screw down, a real clasp and some sapphire and we are set!

    My SKX's don't get wrist time anymore. I would rather wear a Sugess homage. 28.8 ETA legal clone. Sapphire and ceramic. 200m WR and it runs +1-2sec/day. I do love my Turtles though.

    I wouldn't agree that it is not a spec monster - it actually is comparing to swiss watches of the much higher end.

    Hi Bruce, nice video, but overall, Seiko has QA issues, I have several Seikos and the last one I acquired, is the SPB155 (the Prospex Alpinist) and despite of the great look of the watch (I like it very much, I'm a bracelet guy), I feel issues with the crown, and I have noticed the same with other Seikos.

    Just cannot get along with the new Seiko at all😒. I saw what was happening a couple yrs ago with the seiko5 line and skx so I bought 20+ seiko5 auto's 38mm and a couple skx007 . Then bought some doubles because i want to enjoy the first without worrying about Knicks/scratches😱
    -knowing they were discontinuing the entire line😱 was sickening. I've nearly doubled my invest within 2 years. Don't plan on selling any of my Seiko collection, EVER😁.
    I also went all in with classic Casio but honestly they keep making all of them so that was just the kid in me wanting all the Casio I didn't get in the 80s-90s🤙💙

    I think Seiko should have made it with a Uni bevel, and 200Mtrs as on the SKX 007/009 and an Oyster strap.

    A really nice watch. Really wanted one, but as always could be so much much better with a few simple and necessary improvements. Better clasp and sapphire and you got one hell of a watch. Time Seiko listened and made these improvements across the range.

    I think luming the bezel is a terrible idea. This watch is already borderline too busy, and luming the bezel is just not a good idea here, it would only contribute to a dial that is combustible.

      Agree. Lume is for night diving or otherwise to read local time by bedside. Only luming the pip for dive timing makes sense

    OK this is an important watch no doubt but let's not get carried away with the idea that this is the first affordable GMT from a mainstream maker. Vostok may not spring to mind when we think about mainstream, but they are a very old in house maker of robust watches and their popular Komanderskie automatic comes in a GMT for about a third the price of the Seiko. I'm not knocking the Seiko which of course is bound to be of superior quality. I intend to buy one but I think it's wrong to make claims about this being the first affordable in house GMT

    I received mine yesterday, the blue version, and I just paid 390 USD. I think this is the most affordable dual time watch on the market right now.
    Well, concerning the 4R-calibers, we don't need to talk about those. They are not very accurate. I still had to regulate mine to achieve a reasonable accuracy.
    But what to expect for less than 500 bucks?
    Overall, it's a nice watch with a classic Seiko-design.
    The only negative point is the bezel.
    They should have used a ratching one to avoid a misalignment by accident.
