Sometimes you need to stretch out the spring a tiny bit. I had to do it to my 3 valve spring. It’s been 20 years and my valves are still good as new.
Literally just wondering if I could don't this. Thanks for the confidence
Thank you so much! I’ve been dealing with sticky valves all marching band season and this really helped!
Thank you so much! My directors AND my mom (who is a director) kept telling me that it was because of my hand position, but I knew that it was more than that. Thanks!
Bought a trumpet off of a dude online... middle valve was horrible.. your video..saved me! thank you :D
Thanks a ton! Fixed my problem in 2 minutes!

you are the best trumpet guy helper ever bro
You're incredible! Thanks for the help.
Thank you very much!! I can’t get the middle one out though!
I found putting hand sanitizer through the bottom hole helps lol
Don’t do that! Take penetrating oil like pb blaster or even wd-40 and just give it time. Whatever you do never force anything to move if it doesn’t want to.
I just borrowed a baritone. Valve 1 was very sticky. It was terrible. I cleaned it, oiled it, but it didn't work. But I had also messed with the oil of the other valves. And I noticed that the oil was making them more sticky.
That's when I noticed that too much oil is a thing. At least with the bicycle chain oil I used. It's a thin oil, but probably not very thin.
I took the valves out, and cleaned only the valves, and left the residual oil in the cylinders. I cannot remove all the oil from the cylinder by cleaning only the valve, so there will be very little oil left in the cylinder. As long as there's some oil, it should be fine. Because the contact area is very wide, the parts are not under very high contact forces, and the parts are very smooth. This means, any little oil there will be trapped between parts, and parts may have almost no chance of rubbing each other. On the other hand, oils have very high cohesion and reasonably high adhesion. So, if there's too much oil, it acts like a weak glue.
My 3rd valve was great. I messed up that one. Then, fixed all of them. When I played it, I had no problems at all 😍
BTW, I noticed that springs of valve 1 and 2 were shorter than valve 3. The wire thicknesses were the same. So I stretched the short springs just enough to make them approximately the same lenght as valve 3 spring. It was not a huge change for springs, so I don't expect them to get weak because of that. But this change makes them slightly stronger.
OMG , TYSM! I FINALL FIXED IT MY BAND TEACHER WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MAD AT ME 😅
I am new to trumpet so thank you for helping me so much

Thank you❤
Your my savior

Trumpet valves that have tight tolerances become sticky when lint from rags builds up. Wash the pistons and air dry them without using rags or microfiber cloth.
Why does the 3rd valve always get stuck
It's often because it's the first one from the mouthpiece end so anything blown down the trumpet hits that one first (saliva, muck, bits of your lunch etc). In a weird way it acts as bit like a filter for the other two. It is also probably the least used valve which could factor in too.
For me it’s my first valve 💀
I got one used first one and it was sticky because the bottom part was dented by the twisties, so i put some dowel broom wood inside and worked it well enough to not stick. now to learn to play. Day too mutzin about with it, I def want a mute I like the sound
Thanks man I just got this new trumpet and the valve kept getting stuck
I have a new yamaha from first day getting stuck, wasting my oil and putting me off from trumpet. Will try though
Keep going, it will get easier.
I just bought a new trumpet on ebay... yes ebay it was 20$ and a bundy selmer so yes... but its stuck bad I've cleaned it and oiled it tried working it back and forth but it wont move on its own at all i was curious so i put it in a different valve to check to see if it was the valve itself or not and it was fine but i put it back in the right one and it does not move any help or advice would be very appreciated!!!
Ignore the state of the casing?
Do you clean the inside of the valve as well?
It wouldn't hurt to.
While the valve is out clean the inside of the valve shaft with a valve brush.
It’s not working and I have an assignment due today 💀
My problems is I can't even get the valve out.
Didn’t work for my trumpet. Is there anything else I can do about it?
Hybrid Atom Take it to a repairer. PM me if you are local to Surrey.
after doing this it wouldnt play at all
thanks dad

Why don’t you just clean your horn? If this happens then it is a sign that you have to clean it anyway. Why risk corrosion and red rot in the trumpet over having the valves work. Seems like a bad trade in my eyes.
It's always the 3d valve...
honestly they just get worse after oiling!
