- The Leopard (or Leopard 1) is a tank designed and produced in Germany that first entered service in 1965. It was used as the main battle tank by over a dozen countries worldwide.
Der Leopard 1 ist ein mittlerer Kampfpanzer aus Deutschland. Es war der erste in der Bundesrepublik nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg (ab 1963) entwickelte und produzierte Panzer.Main Battle Tank.

I’m a former Abrams tanker and will always love my beast. That said - the Leo1 is the sexiest and most elegant vehicle to ever wear tracks! I could watch this video for hours (and have).
Funny, I'm a former Leo 1 tank commander in the Dutch army and I think the Abrams is one of the best looking tanks ever. Saw them first time live in Germany 1988 @ NATO Exercise "Free Lion". For the occasion they were our "enemy". Man, do I miss those days

in 1970 the Leo 1 was the best tank for years!! the speed and firepower was very very good at this time!! the german tank crews are perfect hard trained!! you know!!!? the crew and the tank is a action group together!! the training is a competition between other crews to be the best gunner, loader, driver and commander!!!

Ich finde es schade, dass er ausgemustert wurde. Denn in seiner letzten Version (A6, die nicht mehr umgerüstet wurde), wäre er in auch in Afg eine enorme hilfe. Und mit 47t billiger als ein 62t schweren Leo II zu transporteiern.
Die 62t des Leopard 2 haben aber einen deutlich höheren Panzerschutz und in der neuesten Ausbaustufe hat er auch einen brauchbaren Minenschutz, der dem Leopard 1 fehlt.

@Absurdfan um den marder ist es ehrlich nicht zu schade. er ist mit seinen 600ps und zuletzt 38t hoffnungslos überfordert. sowohl mit der motorleistung und motorkühlung im heißen afg. der luchs lässt sich leider schwer an die erfordernisse für den einsatz anpassen. darum ist er letzten endes auch ausgemustert worden. der fenek ist kompakter, braucht weniger personal, ist besser ausgestattet und ist flexibler in der ausstattung.

Only 1 Leopard was damaged meanwhile the serbs lost 150 soldiers, 3 tanks, several artillery pieces and anti tank missiles and even an ammo depot

Разработка 60тых годов. Машина не плохая но против советского т-72 шансов не много! Эти танки пытаются продать на Украину это классно, немецкие бизнесмены просто гении, потому что утилизация будет дороже!)) А как насчёт Leopard 2A6 или 2А7 ? Ели эти машины покажут себя как в Сирии которыми управляли турецкие военные то это провал! Быстро Украинских танкистов не переучить, а было бы интересно посмотреть на Leo в действие!

This tank seems good but 14.5 mm russian machinegun pentrate his side armor and split forward armor. Sor but imnt think that armor of leo2 much better and can resist shell hit.

Don't fuck with German tanks...I was in Kosovo in 1999 (on Albanian side)and I saw this beast in fight against Serbian paratroopers and their infantry,trust me people,you don't wanna see this beast in action....at the point where the leopard passes, there will be a massacre 95%....modern version of Leopard called Leopard 2a6 is definitely the best panzer in the world.
that was some 20 years ago,today they'll be smashed by a lot of anti tank weapons just like what happened to the turkish leopard tanks in syria!

Meines wissens nach hat man 1956 angefangen einen Panzer zu entwickeln, der den NATO-Standerts entsprechen sollte. 1959 waren dann die ersten 2 Prototypen fertig. Wenn es auf einer vorhandenen Konstruktion basieren würde, hätte e nie und nimmer 3 Jahre gedauert, 2 Prototypen fertig zu stellen ...

The leopard 1 was a good tank, but it wasn't the best of it's time...
First tank to have commander's independent periscope, hunter killer capability. Passive night vision and ballistic computer before the Soviets. 20 minute power-pack change in the field vs hours for Soviet tanks.
@@johnyricco1220 The Conqueror had a contra rotating cupola for the Commander, and a very basic hunter/killer system existed on several tanks before the Leo 1. It also has very thin armour, ready rounds stored right next to the Driver and a basic NBC system. Even it's supposed mobility was no real advantage over really rough ground.
The German High Command had serious doubts about it too. many of them felt it should have been more heavily armoured.
@@thewomble1509 The thin armor was a problem, but later upgrades had reasonable protection from HEAT. The technology at the time didn't allow both good protection and good mobility. Given the options, I think sacrificing armor was correct. But they should have used lightweight space armor from the start.
The NBC protection was quite good. It was an overpressure system which allowed the crew to not wear gas masks. Early Abrams didn’t even have this and in some tanks the gunner can’t aim with masks on.
