    The first chapter of this story is hard to listen to. It really makes my heart hurt...even though I've read the book and know the ending. I took a quick break to share a post and heard something that really brings the beginning of this book into focus for me. The woman said, "When we surrender our will, we always get God. And sometimes it doesnt look the way we want it to look." Jay, you bring this story to life! Thank you again, Jessie for the writing and Jay for the telling!

    This was a wonderful installment in this single dads series. I really enjoyed it and there were so many lessons to be learned. Overcoming the past, forgiving yourself, God's plans not being our plans, and many more. I have a ton of highlights in my copy. I cannot wait to see what comes next for this family!
    Audio:
    Grace. It is all about giving grace and not thinking highly of ourselves because of the grace afforded us. I just love Dyess' audios. They are so relaxing and peaceful. His smooth voice flowingly provides such adept distinction for all of the characters you get lost in the story.

    This story touched me so deeply, I had so many emotions I cried, laughed and was so disappointed with many people of the church how they treated Blair, we all have come short of the glory of God, having board members in the church give them to much power that they forget that their sinners saved by God's grace, I'm glad that Blair came to her senses that Deacon loved her for who she is and not her pass, the Bible talks about Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.
    Proverbs 10:12 and And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
    I Peter 4:8
    I love Deacons personality he is truly a man of God and has Integrity, but he doesn't care what people say he stands on God's word and what God says to him. Jessie this story is powerful thank you especially the use of Word, Jay I have a question for you how did you feel about this story as you were narrating? Thank you for bringing it to life. God bless you both and your families ♥️

    Loved listening to this book. I have the book, hadn't read it yet. I kept wondering why Jessie named the character Waverley. I kept thinking of waverley fabric(I'm an old sewer. They might be out of business?). Your duet is one of my favorite parts. I haven't heard that hymn for quite awhile and stayed with me a long time. I hope you sing in another book.

    • @JessieGussmanauthor
      @JessieGussmanauthor Год назад +1

      Hi, Pamela! I honestly don't remember where I heard the name Waverly. I just thought it was a nice name (and, as an author of a lot of books, I'm always looking for good names!). I have to agree with you about Jay's singing. It's amazing that he does all the parts himself. He sings in every Cowboy Crossing book. In A Secret Baby in the Show Me State he sings Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, and that is probably one of my favorite five minutes of audio ever. *sigh*

    I've been around a few denominations. I was brought up as a kind of lax C of E (Protestant), with some family being married into devout catholic families. Then I met my husband their family was part Salvation Army and part United Reformed.
    One thing I noticed, which pushed me away, was just how negative, unGodly and out and out cruel the members could be. Being mean in a way that I'm confident that God would be ashamed of them, but they were the most involved members and had the loudest voices, so they drove quite a lot of potential congregation members away.
    So far the nicest I have been around are the folks from the Salvation Army. I have seen them all give their lives over to the Lord, never looking down on those that many see as less than them. They carry on their normal lives, whilst encorporating God into every aspect of their lives, some utterly exhausting themselves to do so.
    I'm sure there are plenty of every faith out there that are wonderful in their own right and I'm not trying to belittle anyone, just sharing my experiences.
    The way people spoke to and treated Blair was horrible, and sadly common, which is so so wrong.
    I suppose people like that will find out on their day of judgement, just how wrong they were to treat others so poorly.
    That's one thing that these books are doing for me, they are making me examine things and I really do enjoy thought provoking stories. Bravo.
    Also...gotta love your singing Jay. :) xx

      Thank you for sharing that, EV! I agree that some of the most ungodly people I've met have been churchgoers and "Christians" but I try to remember that God wants me to pray for them like anyone else, and hey, at least He's got them in the right place when He does change their hearts! Thanks for the kind words about my caterwauling, too!

    Does this society exist.. Are these people real... Really, I ask.. I want to live with them

    • @SaywithJay
      @SaywithJay  2 года назад +3

      Hi Ali - good to hear from you! Truly, I do believe this society does exist. As the old adage goes, "write what you know," and I think Jessie does that - she knows this kind of community, and she lives it herself (OK, not suggesting she has a secret baby, or has done time, obviously. Well, probably not. 😁). I think maybe it's more prevalent in small towns, where people more naturally have to depend on each other more, but I think you can certainly find caring communities everywhere, all over the globe, in places of all sizes. That's not to say that any place is perfect (Jessie's stories, and this one most definitely, point that out), but through the loving, caring spirit of the Lord, all of us can help our hometown be more like this.
