Awesome test, man. I have been looking for the right capacitor for my treble bleed mod, trying to find actual audio tests of different values...and you gave me the info that I was looking for...thank you!!!
I tried many treble bleed combinations on my strat, and I settled on the Duncan Treble Bleed. It's a .0022uF cap, with a 100K resistor in parallel. Originally I used a ceramic cap, and a carbon film resistor, but I had a bunch of NOS ITW "blue drops" that happened to be .0022uF, so I tried that, and I must say it sounded a tad better to my ear over the ceramic. I really wanted a silver mica cap, but didn't have any on hand at the right value.
For the ultimate tone Monstertone advise a Paper in Oil K40Y9 based Seymour Duncan value treble bleed kit - 2200pf Capacitor and 100k resistor in parallel
For this application it doesn't matter if the capacitor is ceramic, blue drop, or orange drop. The value of the capacitor is all that counts in a signal type of circuit like this. There is so much guitar folk lore about capacitors that is not true. I have been working in the electronic engineering field for 35 years. Nothing changed. The only thing you want besides the value (voltage rating is not significant in these low voltages) is that it is a non-polar capacitor which a blue drop, orange drop and ceramic are. Electrolytic capacitors have a positive and negative side. Don't use an electrolytic. When you feel the blue drop capacitor sounded better either you read a value wrong or it was a placebo effect. But to your credit, you did a great job of testing the variations of values and their impact.
Some big changes. I once put this tone pot into a strat i had and it had something like 6 capacitors soldered to it. Cant remember the name of the mod but it was effective.
EDUARDO MACHADO ->>>>>>>> ,,,... what capacitor value and resistor values did you use to get a Glassy tone? -----------I'm trying to get this metal tin can glassy tone in SRV video, what treble bleed values would you think to use? Does SRV guitar sound he is playing in a metal can? @
Hey Bill...not sure what you mean by glassy tone...I'm not familiar with his tone so I can't help you with that, sorry :) ...no resistors were used in this test, so all you hear is the influence of different caps...hope this helps
Yea I try that value before its too bright I'm using .0022 uf Cap and 250k resistor for 500k pot now for treble bleeds and it work well if anyone wants to try these values, its a true full loud bright clean humbucker tone.
Hello there...thank you for watching! I honestly dont have the answer for you since I did not include resistors in this so I'm not familiar with how that'd affect the outcome...I tried to keep it simple by reducing the number of variables...but it seems that the most common combinations are .002 mF + 100k and .0012 mF + 130k...but I'd experiment with it before actually modding the circuit...hope it was helpful...regards

im very happy that it was useful! thank you for watching!
Thank you loads for this test. It has altered my opinion about the value capacitor I currently use.
you are very welcome! experimenting is always hard work but it pays off in the end...i learned a lot myself while doing it

I agree!!!!!!!!! Duncan , with a .0022uF cap, with a 100K resistor in parallel.
I wanna know for humbucker what treble bleed is the best?
i use 0.022uf in the neck, and 0.047uf in bridge pup

I had no idea the tone would change that much..
Thank you, great video man!

@@EduMach36 yes i know Eric Johnson uses a 500K in his strat to get more high end frequency. Have you tried this in your strat?

.001 is the best for the bridge and .01 neck for the les paul humbucker guitar ?
