Just getting back into this game. Found an old German army in a box. So now I am building an American and British army. New rules, new cards oh my. Thanks for the upload. Great show. Shows how the new system works. The new rules are easier. Easier for me to teach to new players (victims)LOL!
Thanks for uploading this and appreciate the effort..I really do. Alas this system just does not feel as historical as the previous systems..This is the fifth game of v4 I have watched on RUclips and I have to say it isn't my cup of tea. However, you have again presented this very well indeed and I commend you for that.
they've gone tank nuts. Some of these force lists have more tanks in them then all of Normandy. While its cute to look at, it gets REALLY boring, REALLY fast. "Oh I have some infantry here, they have rifles!" "thats nice, I have 30,000 tanks. You lose n00b." "im going back to bolt action now.."
Great battle report. Great terrain and painted models. Regarding V4, I do like this version as I spend much less time looking things up in the rule book and I am still having fun moving tanks and infantry around. When late war books come out I expect we will see more infantry in the lists. Right now in mid war, I find that infantry squads do not have much anti tank. So they are vulnerable to tank assaults and find assaulting tanks difficult. Except Americans with the number of bazookas' they can take. In the local tournament I just played at, at least 75% of the players had combined arms ie infantry, tanks, arty....and two players had hey infantry lists.
wow, it looked like a crushing British win, which I hate. I am always fond of the Germans, they look so much cooler. Thanks for posting this, i have no one to play with so i get my fix from you guys.
Great battle reports. The only rule that costs me to accept is tanks going to ground. Infantry I can imagine they hitting the ground to avoid casualties, although tanks....
Thanks! My mental picture of this rule is not them hitting the ground but camouflaged, buttoned up and no movement. Vehicles still need concealing terrain to claim the bonus. After all a tank behind a hedge can get this bonus but drive around the hedge to shoot at them and they are in the open with no cover or GTG bonus at all.
Fantastic Battle report, Will you be doing some more involving the fighting first? I'm building a Dak army and i'm stuck between fighting first and Desert Rats haha. Great game though, Would love a game with you guys!
I will be having more Fighting First content. I think we still have one more review (The M-10s) and we are feverishly building our armies for a Mid war event in 6 weeks. you can expect some build videos and Battle reports soon!
good question. they are so fragile in this version but since they can out-range anything else on the table except Arty once they are in a good spot they can control a large part of the table.
Thanks, the glare was a small problem, but the color choice :dark dice with dark pips was the main problem, but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed your batrep...
one would think that matte gaming dice would be a standard instead of the shiny hell we live in. Half of the time I can't tell what side my own dice lands on (I might be getting old though) xD
I agree, matte would be better overall, but even just some contrasting colors for video work would make a difference to the good side, try to stay away from light on light or dark on dark, for the video work ;)
LOL like it matters.. here's all you do for FoW v4... go buy tanks for whatever army you play. Noobs take infantry, everyone else plays nothing but tanks. When you think "hey, that's enough tanks." You're WRONG. Get more tanks! They've pushed their $10+ tank models so fucking much that a FoW army now costs as much as a 2,000pt 40k Guard list. Walked away and never going back. Had hoped they had changed this, can now see they havent. See ya in 5th Edition, when my US Airborne can take the table and be competitive again.
True, however if you fail to range in with your smoke you don't lose it, you can attempt to smoke again. Think of the rule as more of "1 successful smoke bombardment per turn."
even so, my second attempt to use smoke was from the Crusader CS tanks, not the mortar platoon. As it stood none of my 3 units that could fire smoke ever did successfully!
Strange played a game with a buddy the other day for late war and smoke was the only thing saving my US armored force from a serious spanking by the jerries... once per battle??? sounds super restrictive
The Badaxe45 It does make sense though. In rl, during WW2, if you needed to reload the smoke launcher you would need to get out of the tank to do it. And who in their right mind would do that?
I didn't think they had smoke launchers back then for the Americans at least they used white phosphorus shells fired out of the main gun to generate a smokescreen. Is that once per battle only for artillery and mortars or is it any unit using smoke?
Yep, cost and looks are the reason why I field them. You can get 18 of them on the table for less than 50 points and I've had fun swarming my opponents with them. Of course, now that we have Command Cards, you can make them better!
Hi E-4, Swapping hits can seem that way but with the new version letting the shooter assign hits it's needed as a balance. If there were no swapping hits rule then you could also pick out the exact tank you want to kill. Think Fireflies in a Sherman Platoon, etc. Statistically it is pretty similar to the old "gun Tank" rule but reversed as in V3 the Defender assigned hits.
Personally I think it's a fine mechanic and a good simplification of the old hit allocation rules. If you don't like the rule you could always close to 8 inches from your target and they can't swap hits :)

Great video! Always enjoy watching you play but it was pretty cool watching others play while you spectate.
I enjoy that too. Hopefully we can do that more often.
Love your battle reports when I first started this game in I believe April of 2017, watching those videos helped me learn the game
Glad you like them Noah! Thanks for watching

Flames Of War House of Hengist Comics I agree
interesting. I did't see any real difference in the feel of the game with my same force in V3.

@@Nazgull2k1 exactly.... you have Bolt Action... I for one love lots of tanks and this is about the only game where you can do that....
Thanks for the video. It was well done. It really helps to see this when you're trying to learn the system.
Thanks so much and glad we could help!

Very good battle report! I still have my reservations about v4 (because I have an italian army) but we'll give its chance.
As Flames of war comics, Your Terrain is super though!!!
Thanks, I blogged about it's construction here buckaroo13.blogspot.com/2011/11/fow-terrain-like-sand-in-hourglass.html
Great report thank you, hope to see more. V4 looks great.
Filming another battle report today as a matter of fact. Glad you liked it!

Alright thank you

Okay great thanks! good luck with the event!
my first question right from the jump is why you put German 88's ON the hill.. and not BEHIND the hill. Completely exposed and vulnerable.
good question. they are so fragile in this version but since they can out-range anything else on the table except Arty once they are in a good spot they can control a large part of the table.
man did I totally misunderstood the Mike Target rule. My mortars cannot range in for the 25s.
Yes, yes you did :)
That's OK, Jake deserved some 25pdr action
The wording on Mike Target is a bit fuzzy tbh. :)
i do not like the swapping rule.
It does take some getting used to!
good job...Nice narrative, but more readily readable dice would have been nice...
Thanks, glare can be tough. We will try and make sure that you can read the dice better.

Hey dude what set up do you recomend for a begginer wanting to play el alamien with a tank heavy army with little infantry
Hi and thanks for checking us out. Depends, are you wanting to play Axis or Allies?

Nazgull2k1 nothing other than other 40k lists costs as much as a 2k guard list
i thought you could only use one smoke per platoon per battle in this version
True, however if you fail to range in with your smoke you don't lose it, you can attempt to smoke again. Think of the rule as more of "1 successful smoke bombardment per turn."

How do you have V4. I thought it didn't come out until March 11
Hi Carlos, Battlefront Sent us a review copy of the rules so we could get this info out before the general release
All Miniatures Great and Small that's awesome
Those dice on the British side were painful to watch.
Edit: Aaaaand watching further, I retract that statement.
We definitely had our highs and lows! thanks for watching!
Can you buy flames of war late war tanks with unit cards
Greetings a from the netherlands starter player
As far as i know that have not started packing them with V4 cards yet. I've only seen the Mid War releases with the new point values.
Where did you get those dice
We had them custom made for our yearly Flames of War event called Shifting Sands.
They're awesome
Why would anyone use the Crusader when you can get the Honey's & M3's :S they are SO much better in all aspects
Cost for one. Honey Stuarts also miss out with No HE. Crusader isn't a great tank but it's iconic and cool looking
Yep, cost and looks are the reason why I field them. You can get 18 of them on the table for less than 50 points and I've had fun swarming my opponents with them. Of course, now that we have Command Cards, you can make them better!
Also the 6 pounder crusaders are much better than the honeys
However the honey has 5 MG shots
The Honey Stuarts only have 37mm guns. The Crusader IIs have 40mm guns and the IIIs have 57mm guns
i just hate swapping shots. unfair!
Hi E-4, Swapping hits can seem that way but with the new version letting the shooter assign hits it's needed as a balance. if they think this adds balance, then the swap should be randomised, using they same logic from your reply, but in reverse ;)
Personally I think it's a fine mechanic and a good simplification of the old hit allocation rules. If you don't like the rule you could always close to 8 inches from your target and they can't swap hits :)
